Forgetting Sarah Marshall Tabloid & Hawaiian Name Generator
The movie website for the new movie Forgetting Sarah Marshall is kind of fun! Some of the best parts: on the main page click on "Tips to get over being dumped" to get video clips from the movie of what the guy does to get over Sarah Marshall - main tip: drink lots of fluids! Once you actually Enter The Site, there's another cool feature which is the "Make Your Own Tabloid" link. You'll get to upload a picture of yourself (either girl or guy), and it superimposes your face on a tabloid! You can even change the tabloid headlines! Very cool! And there is even a THIRD very cool feature of the Forgetting Sarah Marshall website - the Hawaiian Name Generator!! You actually type in your name and it tells you what it would be in Hawaii! Where do the native Hawaiian come from?
The native Hawaiians can be traced back to the first Marquesan and Tahitian settlers that came to Hawaii around AD 400. There were the ones to first populate Hawaii. According to the U.S. Census Bureau report for 2000, there are around 400,000 people who identified themselves as being “native Hawaiian” of which 100,000 consider themselves [...]

      Hawaiian Luau - Jade Style
The traditional feast in Hawaii was once referred to as the ‘aha ‘aina and was used to celebrate many events including coming of age and visitors. The modern term Luau may have originated from the great coed feasts of the Hawaiian King Kamehameha II. In traditional Hawaii men and women were not allowed to eat together and all women were forbidden to eat certain kinds of foods in Hawaii. King Kamehameha II abolished these laws and many other religious laws in the year 1819. He…

The ethnic history of the Hawaiian Islands
The ethnic history of the Hawaiian Islands is thought to go back approximately to the eighth century A.D., when Polynesians in long-distance canoes made their incredible voyages over hundreds of miles of open sea, probably from the Marquesas and Society Islands, to discover and settle the archipelago. Four hundred years later, still more Polynesians came from Tahiti. When Captain Cook's ships first came upon the Islands in 1778, some 300,000 natives lived there. Seventy-five years later, after ample exposure to white man's culture and his diseases (starting with syphilis carried by men off Cook's Resolution and Discovery), only 71,000 natives remained. In 1872., the combined count of native Hawaiians and haoles (Caucasians) in the Islands was 56,897, the lowest population count on record.

The birth of the Hawaiian Islands
The birth of the Hawaiian Islands has been matchlessly chronicled in the gospel according to Michener, always a wonder to reread: How in the bosom of the boundless deep, countless millions of years before the first men walked the earth, a massive fissure some 2,000 miles in length suddenly appeared, exuding torrents of white-hot, liquid rock which exploded on contact with the heavy, wet burden of water, sending columns of released steam upward for nearly four miles to break loose on the surface of the sea and form a cloud and signal to an unknowing world the start of what might one day be islands. And for 40 million years, more or less, the dense, volcanic basalt built up, layer after layer; and one day, there was another molten eruption from the earth's core, except that now it reached th

      Hawaiian Tree
My parents recently went to Hawaii on a twelve day cruise. Not only did we lose that set of babysitters, but we also lost our other set of sitters--my husband's parents. They went too. That sounds a little whinny doesn't it? Boo-hoo, everyone went on a really cool vacation and I was left with my children on Friday and Saturday nights in freezing cold weather and with my parents' dog that pooped in the basement and it still hasn't been cleaned up. I'm not complaining though, and I don't mean for it to sound like that. We are close to our parents both in relationship values and distance. It was hard giving them all up for so long. Plus, the best part of their return, other than having our best friends back again, was the souvenirs. My mom brought me this Hawaiian-something-or-other tree.

How about a beautiful Hawaiian girl with an orchid flower lay!The Hawaii flower lei is part of an ancient Hawaii tradition. Naturally, we women love the looks and intoxicating scent of those flowers. Men choose the traditional Hawaiian lei made from glossy Maile leaves, which usually drapes around the neck. The reasons for the imbalance are not far to seek. Delta's program is far larger than Hawaiian's, so Hawaiian was no doubt troubled by the prospect of hordes of SkyMiles members cashing in their miles for free trips to Hawaii, always one of the most popular destinations for award travel.Still, Delta has its own flights to Hawaii, and the ability to use Delta miles for Hawaiian flights between the islands is a plus for SkyMiles members, albeit a small one.For members of Hawaiian's program, on the other hand, the addition of Delta is nothing less than a giant step forward.

Roy's first opened in Honululu and recieved many accolades soon after; however, the one I experienced was on Mission Street in downtown San Francisco. The soaring ceilings, dark wood panelling, the sushi-bar in the center, and a large wine cabinet beside it gives the restaurant a warm, upscale feel. The dark, warm interiors felt good after the wet and chilly weather outdoors. The restaurant has a formal feel and everything from the decor, uniforms and the food is clearly Japanese-inspired. Hawaii has basically four angelfish that you might find while diving - Flame, Bandit, Potter's and Fisher's - and a couple of other species that can be seen by researchers in the Northwest Hawaiian Islands. Our angelfish species are basically dwarf/pygmy species, although the Bandit (pictured a couple posts below) is a "large" angel species, and are typically shy and dart into the coral when you try to photograph them. The Fisher's angel only grows to

The Fun Of Learning The Hawaiian Language

The Hawaiian language is the official language of the State of Hawaii. It is an endangered language, meaning that it is no longer spoken officially on any of the populated Hawaiian Islands. The native language was supplanted by English many years ago. There is one Hawaiian Island, Ni’ihau, where the Hawaiian language is still predominantly spoken. This island is privately owned, and tourism there is rejected in favor of a traditional way of life for its inhabitants. Though English is spoken by Hawaiians in order to conduct business and for political and educational purposes, the Hawaiian language remains in the so

During the Month of December I am holding a contest in conjunction with The Mad Gringo at at http://www.madgringo.com/. We will be giving some lucky bloggers sweet Mad Gringo Swag including an authentic Mad Gringo Hawaiian Shirt or Mad Gringo Sarong if you would prefer. I own two Mad Gringo Hawaiian shirts and they are incredibly comfortable and look great.I discovered the Mad Gringo site and fell in love with the idea of "Go Slow". That relaxed lifestyle where you aren't constrained by the corporate life and you follow the Mad Gringo within yourself. So enamored was I that I went on a Mad Gringo sized shopping spree and bought 5 shirts in a whack. I also decided that the Mad Gringo and the Wired Kayaker had something in common. Being a flat water kayaker I'm all about Going Slow and enjoying life. I figure I might as well look stylish doing so.The Mad Gringo website is a very magical place for me. Those countries could include Columbia, Brazil, Guatemala, Arabia, etc. However, one may not consider the country of the United States as a producer of fine coffee. This oversight may be due to the fact that one may forget that Hawaii is part of the United States and that Hawaii is known for their production of coffee. The Blue Hawaiian
Though I never take alcohol, I love the vibrant colors that these drinks have, and I'm always fascinated to know what gives them these beautiful hues. So here's what I found when I set to find what goes into a "Blue Drink". Its an ingredient called the "Blue Curacao", a sweet blue liqueur, distilled and flavored from the dried peel of bitter oranges. It can also contain distillates of lemons and curacao fruit, sugar and wine. This is used to induce color to several drinks, and one of the favourites for most people is the Blue Hawaiian! And if you can't find it, just add some blue food color; the drink is totally worth it even without the curacao!!Ingredients1/4 cup cream of coconut (thick sweetened coconut milk)5 tbsp pineapple juice2 tbsp Blue curacao (this gives the blue color to the drink)1/6 cup light rum (optional)orange or pineapple slices - to garnishMethodBlend light rum, blue curacao, pineapple juice, and cream of coconut with one cup ice in an electric blender at high spee
