These spy shots show a completely undisguised version of the new Vauxhall Insignia hatchback. Expected to account for as much as 75 per cent of Insignia sales in Europe, the hatchback variant of Vauxhall’s Mondeo rival looks very similar to its saloon sibling. These shots show that the hatch can be differentiated only by its more angled D-pillar and some subtly different shutlines. The hatch will
It will not arrive in Sweden until September, but via Skoda Auto's home page we have found pictures of Skoda's (we think) quite unique solution with double trunk doors. With the Skoda double door on the new Superb model (based on the VW Passat) you can either open the trunk like on an ordinary sedan, OR choose to open it like on a large hatchback! why did not Saab come up with this? They could have used the publicity.

We're getting more hatchbacks in the US that are great on gas mileage. Unfortunately, most of them were already being built but still not available here. Take for example the Smart car, which has been wildly popular in Europe and has only recently planned on releasing in the US.I saw a hatchback in the neighborhood where I work and LOVED it. It's a great looking little car, and it appeared to have a Ford brand on it. Curious, I checked the Ford website. Nothing. Maybe I was wrong? So I kept seeing this car, and finally I got fed up and ran after it while at a stoplight and caught the brand (the owner likely thought I was psychotic) - yep, it's a Ford. Huh?Turns out Ford only sells this car outside the US. Our own domestic brand sold us out! Here she is: the 2007 Ka. Here's an English review of the car. The new BMW 1 Series goes on sale in Spring 2007 and features a model line up that includes the most fuel efficient production vehicle BMW has ever produced. The introduction of a three-door model and a revised five-door come as a raft of new fuel-saving innovations are rolled out across the range. Technologies such as Brake Energy Regeneration, Automatic Start-Stop function and Electric Power Steering are combined with lower rolling resistant tyres and a gearshift change indicator to encourage economical motoring. These innovations are in addition to the use of variable valve technologies and High-Precision Direct Injection engines on some 1 Series models that boost power output but cut fuel consumption and emissions. The BMW 118d, BMW’s most economical car, manages its record 60.1mpg figure courtesy of these features in conjunction with the use of further lightweight engineering. The car now has an aluminium crankcase to save weight. Aside from the BMW Hydrogen 7, the BMW 118d also
Our jaws practically hit the keyboards when we encountered the first official images of the facelifted variant of the subcompact offering from Chevrolet (*cough Daewoo). The first official images of the European Chevrolet Aveo Hatchback were released by GM today, ahead of its official unveiling in Frankfurt. The Kalos, the original marque the European Aveo5 wore, will be renamed to Aveo Hatchback just like its four-door brother. However, the big news ought to be the reworked front fascia. Headline: Daewoo injects abundant doses of the bold juice. It seems the folks at Daewoo worked a tad too hard in an effort to make the new hatch stand out. The front Chevy split-grille, found on the new Malibu and Uplander, has been taken to the extreme and it's frightening to some. Couple that with the enlarged Epica headlights and you have a real eye-catcher. The front fascia is completely overhauled and new side vents add an extra oomph into the car.Our late spyshots of the Aveo5 testing showed the

Kia Motors Corporation has released the first preview image of its exciting new Kia three-door hatchback model which will make its World Premiere at this year's Frankfurt International Motor Show on 11 September. The new model will be named Pro-cee'd.Based closely on the earlier 'pro_cee'd' concept shown at the Paris Motor Show in 2006, the new production model has been developed by Kia's design team in Europe under the direction of Chief Design Officer, Peter Schreyer."Longer, lower and lighter than its five-door sister car, the new Kia Pro-cee'd is going to be a great drive," enthused Mr Jean-Charles Lievens, Senior Vice President Kia Motors Europe. "Combining real style and genuine practicality, our new three-door cee'd is sure to delight existing Kia customers and attract a new group of European consumers who have not yet considered our brand."Manufactured in Slovakia, Kia Pro-cee'd will be the third member of the Kia cee'd family, joining the popular cee'd five-door and
Recently Alfa Romeo CEO Antonio Baravalle introduced during a conference some details about the two new awaited compact cars, i.e. The future 5-doors Alfa Romeo 149 and the sports 3-doors named Junior. Pne of the two cars is even excpected to have its debut at the end of 2007, but in the following text we want to focus our attention on the other one: Alfa Romeo Junior, which is expected to have its debut on 2008.The car that has to be confronted with Germans Audi A3, Volksagen Golf and Bmw 1 Series and with Italians Lancia New Delta and Fiat Grande Stilo, is announced like a new sport evolution of 147.Observation of Visconti and 8C Competition prototypes makes to understand new style and new ideas that will be used for 169 and 149.Line would be more muscular: on the facade it would be classical Alfa Romeo shield, while motor cowling would be characterized with a powerful V wedge; tail would be cut to have an harmonious broadside.About motorizations, 149 would be equipped with 1,6 gasol
One of the legendary rivalries in automotive history is the one between Subaru Impresa STI and Mitsubishi Lancer Evo. Now Subaru has a ace in its sleeves with the 2008 version of the Impresa STI. What strikes us most it’s the fact that Subaru will ditch the sedan form factor for a hatchback version.

UPDATE: Images of base hatchback trim added. We're still doing our best to give the new 2008 Subaru Impreza a fighting chance in the realm of public opinion after an unflattering session with Motor Trend's photographer set it off on the wrong foot. Today we bring you the first shots of the 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX sedan, which again moves the approval meter a bit more to the positive side. The front end is virtually the same as the five-door hatchback's with an obscenely large intake and matte grille flanked by bits of chrome. The sedan, however, appears more balanced than the five-door hatchback without all of that bulk over the rear wheels. That said, even these new images of the five-door hatch make the car look much better than those first pics, particularly the interior that's shown in a handsome two tone with silver accents.[Source: Autoblog via Autoweek]Continued- Article, more imagesIt's no doubt been a rocky debut for the 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX, but the real test will be h
(more…)

A story published yesterday on the GoAuto (Australian) website indicates that Honda may be prepping a new variant of the Civic platform for Asia/ASEAN markets. According to the article, since importing Euro Civics to the region would be prohibitively expensive due to currency exchange rates, Honda is said to be prepping a new lower cost hatchback version of the Civic that could be built in the region for a substantial cost savings. The story suggests that this new iteration would be based on the current Civic sedan platform, which we would expect to mean that this version would likely be larger than the Euro Civic. To further speculate, we assume this car would lose both the "magic seat" feature and the Euro Civic's torsion beam rear suspension, presumably in favor of the independent multilink setup currently found in the rest of the Civic lineup. Even if this new version of the Civic is built, we're skeptical that we'd ever see it in the US unless hatchbacks suddenly turn "hip". [S
Lexus recently revealed product plans that include an entry-level model. Most likely (and logically) it will be a hatch. Being a Lexus, it has to use rear-wheel drive, making it the second hatch with the correct wheels driving it (following BMW's 1-Series). And what a hot hatch that will be! Even better handling than the IS due to lesser weight, a lot roomier than the BMW competitor and maybe even better looking. I tried my hand with the L-finesse brush on this one and envisioned something that would fit smoothly in the current Lexus range; no (unpleasant) surprises. By the way, I have in the back of my head an image of a Lexus hatchback concept car from the beginning of the ‘90s. Do any of you remember that? I wasn't able to find any info on it around the web.
