The makers of the GI Joe franchise have really lost their minds. It's no secret that I wasn't fond of all the... creative license... taken with the live-action Transformers movie. It was a bearable popcorn flick, but certainly not the live-action Transformers movie I'd waited 20+ years for. Much of my disappointment stemmed from the fact that I could barely see many of the classic characters I'd loved growing up, both in appearance and personality. As such, I had worries that the live-action G.I. Joe movie would share the same fate. The first pics of Ray Park as Snake Eyes have been released and OH. MY. WORD.He's perfect. How perfect? Just compare this comic book cover to the promo photo...Add to this the fact that Larry Hama is reportedly involved and it's looking excellent, excellent, excellent. Another month brings us another round of nerd questions from across the vast expanse of the internets. Not much has changed since the last few times. I share the questions and offer my priceless insights on both the answers and the questions.
It’s been almost a sort of a reprieve from horrendously nerdy questions around here. I just haven’t had the time to post an update about them! Well, there’s a time for everything and now is the time for nerds to ask questions that make Hasbro employees cringe.
Action Figs.com gets this party started:
ActionFigs.com: Since there has been buzz about doing a Willrow Hood (ice cream guy) figure, is there a chance that you’ll visit other obscure characters from Bespin such as Treva Horme, Wiorkettle, and alien Bespin guard Utris M’toc? These characters are visually more interesting than Hood (many people think so), and Trooper M’toc could be the basis for a potential army builder as he’s a Bespin security officer.
Hasbro: Well, Willrow has the advantage in that he has a sizeable(sic) amount of fan support as shown by his relatively strong vote showing in the Toy Fare Fans’ Choice poll last year. We like the Utris idea…a strong possibility
A visitor provided a link to an announcement by Hasbro, the maker of the GI Joe toys, in which they speak to the audience and try to calm them down about how the movie adaptation will be made:
Hasbro’s G.I. Joe Team wanted to take this opportunity to clarify some of the facts regarding the G.I. Joe live-action movie that we are developing with Paramount Pictures.
First and foremost, we are not
In what perhaps is the first time ever, a toy company has tried to calm fans of it’s toy line that the movie based on their favorite toy won’t be horrible. Hasbro has made a public statement on it’s website to this effect about the live action G.I. Joe movie.
First and foremost, we are not changing what the G.I. Joe brand is about. The name “G.I. Joe” will always be synonymous with bravery and heroism.
One of the scariest things to a lot of uber-fans was that G.I. Joe was going to be based out of Brussels. Hasbro says, no way fools, “The G.I. Joe team will not be based in Brussels. Instead, they will be based out of the “Pit” as they were throughout the 1980s comic book series.”
This message is slightly reassuring, but Hasbro hasn’t had a very good track record to assure us of cinematic quality. Let’s take a look at past Hasbro tie-in film success for a moment. Transformers: The Movie (animated) had a beloved character die and a plo

This item was purchased by my husband. He was for sure that our son would absolutely love it. Our 11 month old son was way more interested in the box than the actual truck at first. It took some warming up, but now our son really likes this truck. It's a great toy for the just starting to cruise/walk phase. The seat of the truck can stand up in a lock position allowing Baby to walk behind and push. Also the noises it makes are pretty cute. It turns on like normal truck would do and even vibrates a little. My son is fascinated with the horn. A cool feature is that when you push the truck forward, it scoops up toys. What a great way to clean up and play :-) OK, we all know those toys will be back on the floor within seconds. Overall, this is a neat toy.RATING: ****COMMENTS: Great to push or ride on. It's also really sturdy for when Baby is pulling up on it.
I was lucky enough to be able to attend two biggest geek conventions this year, Star Wars Celebration IV and the 2007 Comic-con, but as fate would have it I wasn’t able to complete my nerd trifecta and go to Atlanta where all the die-hard G.I. Joe fans could bathe in the glory of America’s greatest toy fighting force. So what was I left to do? Look at coverage of the con found on other websites. Yep, I’m now the bottom feeder of the toy news world. Such is life.
Luckily, Toy News International has a good amount of coverage. The most interesting to me is the Hasbo Panel post that you can find here.
Some biggest news from the panel:

Boy oh boy, the nerd train keeps on rolling. This actually came up last week, but I’ve had all kinds of trouble with my internet access and I lost the original version of this post, so this is up a little late. I’m sorry to delay your injection of the best toy related nerdiness that the internet has to offer. Anyway, here’s this month’s round of Star Wars nerd questions to Hasbro:

I’m about to reveal a secret about myself that I don’t share with many people. Are you ready?
I’ve never played a video game.
I mean, I HAVE - I’ve got a love/hate relationship with The Sims. I used to play that You Don’t Know Jack CD Rom game with a few friends - uh, back in like 1997 - and I used to LIVE at the arcade when I was Kayley’s age, so I’ve played my share of Ms. Pacman. But when all of my friends in high school were playing Nintendo, I was - hmmm. I don’t know what I was doing. Probably shopping for Aqua Net and listening to Belinda Carlisle or something. Almost all of Kayley’s friends have an Xbox or a Playstation - but she doesn’t! I have no idea why. Are we just super cheap? Am I afraid to show everyone my lack of hand/eye coordination? I don’t know what the deal is. I’m seriously considering getting “her” a Wii for Christmas, though! I can make up for all the wasted years.
So, when so
This last week saw another round of nerd questions sent to Hasbro. Again, I collected some of the best and the worst here for your reading enjoyment. Remember to click on the links to give the sites where the questions came from some loving, please.

Fantastic 4 Action Figureure Fire Blast Human Torch by Hasbro
Brand : Hasbro
Price: $9.99
One of Marvel’s greatest teams of heroes is back! Reed Richards’ team has to deal with evil forces from Earth and beyond!
From the movie Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, comes this individually packaged Fire Blast Human Torch action figure. Johnny Storm lives his life on the edge (specializing in fast cars, pretty girls and extreme sports). But Sue’s younger brother has another, more serious side.
He’s the best pilot and astronaut in the world.
While piloting Reed’s experimental space station, a cosmic wave pounded Johnny’s body, turning him into a human fireball and changing his life forever.
Now, when the Human Torch isn’t using his fiery power to aid the Fantastic Four, this ‘hothead’ can often be found pulling a prank or two on unsuspecting teammate, Ben Grimm.

Now isn't this amazing: Stan the Man Lee is getting his very own Marvel Legends figure!Comic book fans already know Stan Lee is a Marvel legend. Now Hasbro is making it official. The company will pay plastic tribute to the 84-year-old creator of Spider-Man, the Hulk, X-Men, Fantastic Four and other comic-book heroes by interpreting him as a 6-inch tall Marvel Legends action figure. The toy shows Lee's likeness wearing khaki pants, a blue windbreaker and eyeglasses."We feel it's long overdue that Stan Lee be immortalized as an action figure, much like the dozens of marvelous characters that he has created for years and years," said Eric Nyman, Hasbro's vice president of marketing. The limited-edition, $14.99 toy will be introduced next month in San Diego at Comic-Con International, the annual comic-book convention.Boy, is Stan lucky!
Over on the Sir Steve’s Guide forums it was reported that AAA members can get 15% off on HasbroToyShop.com. To get the discount, you have to go to AAA’s website and click through to HasbroToyShop.com
This is a pretty decent deal, considering that most Hasbro Toy Shop sales I’ve reported in the past were only for 10% off your purchase price. If you plan on taking advantage of this sale, happy toy buying and be sure to tell them I sent you. Not that it will do any good, but it’s worth a shot.

For a company that supposedly doesn’t care about it’s customers, Hasbro certainly goes out of it’s way to answer questions from rabid toy collecting nerds. In case you didn’t know, there are several websites that ask Hasbro questions and a poor Hasbro rep must answer them, no matter how inane the questions are. I’d like to take a moment and highlight some of the most notable from this last round of questioning.

Talk about putting the "con" in convention.Apparently some... overly-eager eBay sellers have been listing several of Hasbro's San Diego Comicon exclusive toys this week. This includes Alternators Rodimus, Titanium Menasor and even the My Little Pony exclusive.Sellers are charging about three times what these toys will retail for at the Con, and are listing these as "pre-orders." Thing is, the SDCC isn't until the end of July and apparently eBay's rules state you have to ship pre-orders within 30 days of the auction's end.Which is totally impossible.Oh, and of course these sellers want immediate payment.Buyers, beware!
This is the one panel that I wanted to see, but didn’t know about. Jebus, I didn’t even see this in the schedule! Luckily, we can thank the internet to save the day, and more specifically, Jedi Insider.com.
This video mainly highlights all the new product offerings that I’ll be showing on the site in the next few days. There are a few things that weren’t on display that you can only see here, like the new AT-PT walker, so this video is a much watch for any Star Wars toy fan.

In my younger days, I had a huge collection of GI Joes pretty much like every other American boy. I was personally a huge fan of the Street Fighter II release that Capcom and Hasbro co-designed from the early 90's. Fortunately for all of us still stuck in glory days of nostalgia, Hasbro seems to be wanting to offer us all a chance to relive our childhood. On the official GI Joe website for their Real American Heroes line, Hasbro is soliciting votes on a poll to help determine which re-featured series (in classic packaging none-the-less) we would most like to see for 2008. What's the first choice on that list?Well Street Fighter II of course!Considering how many characters never got a chance to be immortalized by Hasbro in plastic from the first Street Fighter II releases, this would definitely be a great opportunity to finish off the Street Fighter II action figure collection. Who wouldn't kill for a Hasbro designed Cammy to go along side their Hasbro designed Guile? You can visit
Remember when I reported on the Star Wars Celebration exclusive R2-D2 and C3PO and the subsequent rant? If you don’t you might have brain problems, because it was just this last week. It’s time to add another figure to the list of convention exclusive figures that you’ll want to get, but won’t be able to because your fat hotel roommates will have taken them all before you have a chance:
If this Luke Skywalker doesn’t look familiar to you, it’s the early McQuarrie design. I don’t know too much about the idea behind the design of Luke at this point in his conception, but one thing is for certain, this Luke is a lot more kick ass than he was in the films. Let’s face it folks, Mark Hamill didn’t play Luke as a very manly individual. In fact, I always viewed Luke as a little asexual. When I heard he married Mara Jade in the expanded universe I couldn’t believe it. Luke doesn’t like girls. Luke is married to the force first,
Want to save a few bucks while shopping for your toy needs? Yes? Okay, then I got the hook up. I recently received an email from the fine folks at Hasbro that states that until 7/31/07 (or until supplies last), if you go to HasbroToyShop.com and purchase 25 bucks worth or more of Transformers’ merchandise you get a two nifty car magnets for your trouble.
How can you not take advantage of a stupendous offer like that? Hell, you could even use the opportunity to take that stupid-ass, magnetic cause ribbon off your car and replace it with something to show you’re down with transforming robot action.
Also remember that they are still running the $10 buck promo for orders over 50 dollars as detailed in my stupendous post from earlier in the week.
And that’s not all! I just got word that they are offering free shipping on a purchase of 50 dollars or more if you put in the promo code CATSPRO7 by 4/30/07.*

Hasbro has recalled about 985,000 EZ-Bake Ovens for repair due to some children getting burned. From the Consumer Product Safety Commission:
Hazard: Young children can insert their hands into the oven's opening and get their hands or fingers caught, posing an entrapment and burn hazard.
Ouch! Not only is this an immediate threat just think about what kind of effect this might have in the future for home baked tasty treats. Millions of adults may be too afraid to make a Hello Kitty cupcake because of the shear psychological trauma inflicted from their Easy Bake Oven. This is a problem that could lead up to a national crisis within a decade.
If you own one of these ovens what should you do? Throw your hands up in the air and scream at the top of your lungs? No. The solution is:
Consumers should contact Easy-Bake between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. ET 7 days a week to receive a free retrofit kit with consumer warning at (800) 601-8418. Caregivers should keep the Easy Bake Oven away from ch
Hasbro is really pushing its new spring loaded lightsabers in a big way and they’re currently running a fantastic contest to try to move some of these suckers. The prize? How’s about a trip for four to Star Wars Celebration IV in Los Angeles and a one-of-a-kind chrome Force Action Lightsaber? As a Star Wars Convention veteran, the trip alone is a hell of a prize if you’re a Star Wars fan.
To enter, all you have to do is make a video of yourself using said lightsaber in some creative manner. For the boring official rules go to StarWars.com. Here’s the YouTube promotion video for the contest:
If you enter and win the contest, let me know. I plan on getting some Toy Bender representation at the con. Maybe we can document some of your big pimping lifestyle and make all the lesser nerds jealous… like me.
