He says Rowling lacks the gravitas a Harvard commencement speaker sh

For arguments sake, let's say that's equal to about 60K in pre-tax dollars. Spread out over the five years, that's 12K per year. Now let's look at what the Globe says average salaries are:"First-year salaries at firms with more than 500 lawyers rose last year to $145,000""The current entry level salary for prosecutors in Massachusetts is $37,500"Assuming the corporate lawyer gets no pay raises over the first five years that he/she works (highly unlikely).

Harvard University and its Program of Education
It’s extremely familiar and sobering actuality: Mom and Dad together work for years, squirreling away currency for their child’s college instruction. Other than when the time comes, they still have to valve retirement funds and have a loan of the home equity. For this reason Harvard University’s plan to radically add to student monetary support, [...]

Denzel Washington at Harvard Tonight - 12/18
Denzel Washington is going to be in town tonight for a special screening of his new movie "The Great Debaters." According to the Harvard Crimson, he will be attending a black-tie premiere at the Carpenter Center on Dec. 18 (here). The Great Debaters tells the the true-to-life events of Wiley College during 1935 - the year the debate team from the all-black Texas school took on a prestigious white university to become the first black college to win the National Championship (here). I don't think this is the type of event that us normal folk would have been able to get tickets to, but if you know any Harvard students, their was apparently a lottery for students to get tickets. Per usual, though, if you go to the usual celebrity haunts like the Four Seasons, the Ritz Carlton, or Boston Public, etc you might be able to see him.Know of Any Interesting Boston News or Events That You'd Like to Share?Email me at beantownblog@gmail.com

Views of the Housing Market from Harvard
Nicolas Retsinas, director of Harvard University’s Joint Center for Housing Studies, says in this interview with the Wall Street Journal that the housing market is cooling because lenders overlend, builders overbuild, and consumers now expect a drop in prices. We really don’t need a degree from Harvard to figure that one out, but he also finds a few noteworthy facts. First of all, Retsinas finds a stickiness to home prices. It is interesting that home prices have been so resilient even in this down market. He points out that most of the homes for sale are by people who live in them and if they don’t get the price they want then they just stay. So, perhaps he’s suggesting that consumer expectations are misguided on falling prices. Secondly, he finds that immigrants accounted for 40% of new households in the past 5 years and that the long term outlook for housing is good because of the expectation that this trend will continue. Demand for housing has long been vie
