Recently retired NBA All-Star Tim Hardaway made some very disparaging remarks about gays during an interview with a Miami radio station and was banned from some NBA-sanctioned appearances he was scheduled to make in Las Vegas as part of the All-Star weekend. He also lost at least one of his endorsement deals, and he ordered his name dropped from advertising at a car wash he owns in Miami to ensure the safety of his employees.
“You know, I hate gay people. Let it be known I don’t like gay people and I don’t like to be around gay people. I am homophobic. I don’t like it. It shouldn’t be in the world or in the United States.”

The only thing Hardaway has going for him at this point is that you know this story will be beaten into the ground so quickly that it probably won't last long. That or Tim could just keep getting interviewed and saying stupid things and at that point people will just stop

This blew my mind when I read about it because I have had a friendship with Tim when he was with the Pit Bulls in the ABA. A few years ago when I heard about Tim Hardaway starting an ABA team I quickly wrote him an email and was pleasantly surprised when I got a signed letter back from him. This letter invited me to a game and to be an honorary ballboy. Tim Hardaway gained my respect from more than what he did on the court, because he was nice enough to write to a kid and make me feel good. Now, however, I am sad and shocked that Tim would lash out at gay people. He made a terrible mistake and has apologized for it but it won't make up for what he said. He should have known better. According to TMZ, Tim Hardaway is being sued by Washington Mutual Bank for $715,000; Hardaway allegedly is behind on his mortgage payments for his residence in Miami-Dade County, FL. At this point, Washington Mutual Bank is trying to foreclose the property. Plus, Hardaway is being sued for failing to make rental payments for his car wash in Miami; he owes $45,000 in back rent.
