There is finally light at the end of the tunnel now that the reconstruction works at Port Askaig are nearing their completion. Initially three years were planned for the refurbishment of the road and parking place, the harbour, the new pier and new link-span to accommodate potentially larger ferries than the present ones. In the end the project will have lasted almost eight years when it will be ready and caused a huge budget overrun. Last year the north pier and new link-span for the Calmac ferry became operational and the crew started working on the north harbour, the old (south) harbour and Jura ferry berth. The Jura ferry in the meanwhile used the new link-span during this period causing delays for the regular Calmac ferries and preventing them from staying over night at Port Askaig. F

About once a year, my mother orders a bushel of crabs from Harbour House Crabs. Last night, we headed over to her house and sat at the table covered in newspaper, ready to put in a couple of hours. The crabs were meaty and full of eggs (My mom ordered female crabs cause my dad loves the roe.), well spiced in the traditional style of Maryland Blue Crabs, Old Bay. With ten people, we could not finish the bushel. I did my part though, eating seven of the crabs, paying little attention to the garlic bread and oxtail soup my mom made to give some variety. As Lon mentioned, I love work intensive food! Eating crabs for hours is my idea of fun!

I have a few earlier sketches of the harbour. Kate & I have been walking in the Port Hills, familiarising ourselves with the terrain for the the “Over the top Ride” which is now in full-swing at Otahuna Riding.
Once I got into the swing of this pen I want ed to try it out in all sorts of ways. What is more subtle here is the gradation offered in ArtRage. I wanted the distance to recede more so added a gradient of haze. What I like about the “stencil” that does this is that the result is not purely mechanical & mathematical, the gradient is still produced by hand, but with a bit of help! A tool!

Ever wonder what it would feel like to play James Bond for a day? Sneak into a highly secured building suspended by a cable moving along a pulley? How else could I get into One Bal Harbour on a Sunday afternoon? Well actually, I just walked in through the front door.
The lobby was simply amazing! The ceilings looked to be 25-30 feet high. WCI definitely delivered a remarkable product. There has been much speculation by the media, as of late, that One Bal Harbour will be riddled by a large percentage of defaults. That may or may not ultimately be true, but those who can hold for three-plus years will likely be pleased with their decision.

Last week a contract holder contacted me who would like to sell his 2 bedroom/2.5 bath condo residence at One Bal Harbour. The condo is a Residence B floor plan in the 02 line. A day trip down to the east side of Chichester harbour. This really is sailing heaven with craft of all discription alongside quays, along the channels and outside houses.The main objective was to obtain some sketches and reference pictures of Bosham village (top image) from across what is part of Bosham Channel but the light was not correct be overcast (later cleared) when the tide was right, but then not helped by the exposed 'mud' being covered in green algae, not the best for a painting. There was thankfully lots of other potential subjects during the rest of the day (returning twice), with some races in the channel and the constant launching and landing of small sailing craft. Sydney Harbour Bridge has spanned the water dividing north and south Sydney since the early 1930s. Newhaven Harbour is now a departure point for boat trips or “seafaris” to the Firth of Forth. You must book for all trips by phoning 0131 331 4857. There’s a one hour seafari to spot wildlife seals. puffins and guillemots or two hour trips to the island of Inchcolm where you can visit the Abbey.
The Newhaven Museum located in the Fish Market building is closed for renovation at present. It’s free to park by the harbour and there’s a bus stop. There are views up the Forth Estuary towards the bridges and over the Fife.
