GamesForHeroes.com hopes to alleviate some of the strain on today's fighting men and women with a used handheld donation program.Game Boy and an M-16 carbine. Mmm.The Games for Heroes charity has a simple premise: provide soldiers who are in harm's way with a handheld or two to take their minds off the stress of battle during their down time. The creation of 15-year-old Peter Gallagher, GamesForHeroes.com is a legitimate, registered member of MarineParents.com. Japanese airlines ban handhelds
Japan Airlines including Japan Airlines and ANA will no longer allow passengers to use their Nintendo DS or Sony PSP on board due to safety concerns. Passengers were previously asked by the airlines to refrain from using gaming systems with wireless functionally but now The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that gaming systems with wireless capabilities are banned by a law coming into force on Monday. Japan's transport ministry has decided that the electromagnetic waves from the wireless networks can interfere with aircraft navigation systems. The question that I have been left pondering is what all those gaming gurus are going to do while winging it to the Tokyo Games Show next year.If you are a PC gamer, don't sigh with relief just yet because wireless computer mice and headphones not provided by the airlines are also banned. Electric razors, calculators and cassette players are, however, still permitted, so at least everyone will be cleanly shaven while being thoroughly bored. Hold

Square-Enix sees handhelds as driving the future of gaming
Yoichi Wada, chief executive of Square Enix, said “There is a new breed of gamers in the market – we have to make games for all kinds of people,” in an interview with the FT and continued “In the old days, we could just focus on the PlayStation or the GameBoy, but the environment has changed completely.” Square Enix announced Dragon Quest IX earlier this year, the latest installment in its successful franchise, would be a DS exclusive. The move was groundbreaking, as previous Dragon Quest installments were made primarily for the PlayStation and PS2. “We chose the Nintendo DS because the widest array of people use it, including people who previously did not play games before,” said Mr. Wada. Nintendo has sold more than 35 million DS handhelds globally, and expects to sell 22 million units this year. In contrast, Sony aims to ship 11 million PS3 consoles this year. Mr. Wada said certain next-generation consoles were over-engineered for today’s gaming environment. He concl

Five New WM6 Handhelds from i-mate
I don't know about you but this photo gives me high hopes and a lot of time to think about why i-mate hasn't thought of applying this design line in their handsets. I know they are just renderings and not the real thing but they really look as sweet and beautiful as a handheld can be.This new series i-mate is going to launch very soon on the mobile market known as the "Ultimate", a line-up of handsets with pretty much the same spec sheet but with different designs that, hopefully, will satisfy every user's opinion on how a cellphone should look.Beginning with the top left one, these are the culprits: the 5150, the 6150, the 7150, the 9150 and the 8150. They will feature the new Microsoft Windows Mobile 6 operating system, will have tri-band 3G radios, Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity and FM radio tuners. The 5150 already has a leaked photo on his resume (the one you can see on the left) and is the only one with a more detailed spec sheet available. It has an Intel Bulverde 520 MHz pro
