When I was in high school the music rage of the day was “You Can’t Touch This” by MC Hammer. I distinctly remember going to school dances and having the bass pump through the gym. However, since high school I haven’t heard much of MC Hammer. Of course, this is probably due to the fact that my music taste graduated about the same time I also graduate from high school.

Doing more with less, Hammer No More The Fingers is a 3 piece from Durham/Chapel Hill, NC. In 1994 they were a collective of 10 year olds playing all original music except for an Archers of Loaf cover. The Pixies, Chili Peppers, TMBG, and God forbid, Nirvana probably formed the mold. So you could shoehorn them into an early 90's indie revival type thing, but it's a little like putting a squid in a sweater. Hammer No More The Fingers' sound is luxuriously full for a 3 piece. They write catchy, edgy, slightly off-kilter rock music and their live show is powerful and reckless, yet somehow tasteful and refined. Pretty Hammer just released a new t-shirt for charity. There's not a lot to be said here; the t-shirt is called "Save Darfur" and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Save Darfur organization. A 75 year old woman lost it when Comcast failed to switch her phone service over from Verizon. She picked up a hammer, headed down to Comcast’s local offices, and began to destroy everything non-human while screaming if she had their attention. Basically, she did what every one of us have wanted to do at some point of our lives after dealing with shitty costumer service. I applaud her, and she is the winner of the U Suxxors Person of the Week award despite it only being Monday.
Side story time. I don’t have Comcast but I know a guy that does who’s job requires him to be able to watch various pay per views. He told me that Comcast had this deal where you had a certain limit as to how many pay per views you could order which seems pretty ridiculous because you’d think they’d want people to buy as many as they want so you could make more money. Thing is, for awhile every time he tried to order a PPV they’d tell him he didn’t have enough cred
So you know how I feel about Time Warner customer service. I’ve got another blog post brewing about how much I hate Delta Airlines. But in all of these things, the only possible resolution is to bend over and take it from them. Well, especially so in the case of Time Warner. They care so little about you, it isn’t even worth their time to help you give Time Warner more of your money.
Well, it turns out that apparenty all cable monopolies are the same and Comcast has the same problems. The only difference? Mona Shaw, a 75 year old woman, decided that she didn’t just have to smile and say thank you after customer service screwed her. After her particularly disrespectful treatment:

There are a few assumptions to the situation which are not explicitly stated, and one almost correct statement. It is not actually correct that "objects all fall to the Earth at the same speed regardless of mass, providing they are the same shape." It's difficult for anyone who has heard them not to like -- or even love -- the Tremeloes. They were one of the more prodigiously talented British pop/rock bands of the '60s, and they threw that talent into making amazingly catchy and well-crafted singles that lit up the charts and radio on both sides of the Atlantic for four years running, from 1966 through 1970. Yet, the Tremeloes are also one of the least-known and least-respected of '60s English bands. The precise reason for the lack of respect is difficult to pin down, except perhaps that their timing was off, as far as making the most of their success. They generally didn't write their own material and they cut their best singles long after the British Invasion (and the mystique surrounding the bands that were part of it) had ended. It's video Friday here on the blog this week! I found this adorable and amazing performance of a Taiwanese English class through a recent Boing Boing post. Although utterly hilarious from a native English speaker perspective (especially given the MC Hammer soundtrack), it is obviously a total blast for the kids and a great way to get them learning the building blocks of the English language.
