A couple weeks ago I wrote about how to get over $200 in free groceries using the deals that Kroger and several other grocery store chains are offering to entice people to spend their economic stimulus checks. Right now, and until July 31, several grocery store chains are offering a 10% bonus if you buy [...]

Today was an office day; that is to say that I was working at the office rather than from home. Each has its merits and each has its drawbacks. Merits of the office: well obviously I have more resources (both in terms of information in the office and on the office computer system) and specialist software, the office telephone system (even my new mobile with
Well, I have just reached the halfway point in this round of editing my current project, the novel A Sense of Community.
I enjoy the process of editing, although I am anxious to be done with it. I want to hear what my first readers and my editor are going to have to say about it.

Gamma-Ray Burst Visible to Naked Eye
How far can you see with your own eyes on a clear night? Would you believe seven billion light years?
Scientists have detected an interstellar explosion so bright that it was briefly visible to the naked eye—from 7.5 billion light-years away.
Viewers looking at the right patch of night sky on Wednesday would have seen several afterglows from the massive
50. behemoth - 'the apostasy' [review published on issue #162 of Terrorizer magazine]Behemoth have been worryingly average for a while now, and the fact that this less inspired (by their standards) period has coincided with a rise in their commercial status, especially in the United States, is a very valid cause of concern for fans of these Polish giants. ‘Demigod’ was a step further into their definitive affirmation as a death metal band, as opposed to their blackened earlier output, but it was a bland, uninspired step which left several question marks on what would be the ideal direction to follow on the next release. Their commercial future might be relatively secure, with the kind of popularity they seem to hold now, but purely musically speaking, a lot hangs on ‘The Apostasy’.
I don't know why, but posting every day seems like more of a challenge this year than it did last year. Maybe I've been busier. Maybe I feel more pressure to post something thoughtful, rather than silly. Maybe there are days this month I would rather not have blogged, but did it anyway. I don't know! Anyway, happy Halfway-There to anyone else in the NaBloPoMo-sphere, and here's to another 15 days!
And now ... off to yoga class ... I skipped it last week in favor of prepping for the show and now I'm looking forward to it with delight, like someone would a hot fudge sundae. (Note to self: if class is cancelled this week, go find hot fudge sundae.)
As of tomorrow, I am 20 weeks pregnant! It feels a little exciting, and at the moment there doesn't seem to be an end in sight, but at least we're getting to the more interesting bits. I felt the baby moving around inside me a few days back - not exactly kicking, but maybe somersaulting :) I remember the first time I felt Elliot kick, and it was so emotional and moving that I burst into tears and thought about it for days. Everything with this second child seems all a little less new and a bit anticlimatic, and I don't know what to do about that. We have our scan this Friday and I really am looking forward to it. We're finding out the sex of the baby this time around and absolutely everybody wants to know. My feelings about the sex of the baby keep changing. Somedays I feel terrified to have a daughter, other days it's all I can think about and yet I know that if I end up with two boys then I will be over the moon. I'm all over the place with this pregnancy - I'm still
Just a brief note. It was brought to my attention during the last page ranking process that I should have gotten something like a 2 or a 3. At that time, July I think, I felt like Charlie Brown because I got a 0. I stopped looking after that. With all of the recent hoopla about Google dropping the ranking of many pages I figured I had nothing to worry about. When sites like Problogger drop to a 4 it was big news. Not everyone went down, Copyblogger may have gone up, to a 7, it is kinda hard to tell from the post. My ranking indicator when I visit there shows nothing so I can't tell. So, it was with great surprise that I found out today that Modern Magellans blog is rated a 5. You see, when you don't worry about it, it's all good news. Now I need to figure out why my Technorati rating has been dropping, or drooping, from 325 to 317 over the past week. I thought the rule was that it measured links from different sites over the past 6 months. This blog isn't even 6 months old

I'm 20 weeks pregnant today. That's crazy. Part of me feels like I've been pregnant forever. I think it's because I've been involved with the process of trying to get this pregnancy going forever. Part of me feels like I just got pregnant yesterday. I'm only just now starting to feel pregnant. When I look down I can see a definite baby belly and now I can feel the baby move all the time. Every time I eat he starts moving all over the place. Elle always moved a lot. She stretched out, turned around and got the hiccups a lot. This kid kicks. Hard. It's a very different sensation than I ever felt with Elle. It's kind of neat but it does make me worry about how it's going to feel when he's got a little more weight on him. Here's a meal idea for those times when you find yourself having to feed a pregnant woman: Melt shredded cheese on a piece of bread in the microwave. Slather on ketchup. Add another piece of bread to complete the sandwich. Repeat those stepc bec
First and foremost, I really want to thank you all for making me a finalist in the 2007 Black Weblog Awards. I definitely appreciate the love and support that everyone has shown so far by voting me a finalist.
Now, I have to ask you to go back and actually vote for me. The process is easier this time around, because you don’t have to copy and paste URLs. Hell, you really don’t have to vote for anyone else if you don;t want to, as long as you vote for me! Those other bloggers are cool, but um…F*ck ‘em!
Click here to vote for me. They are announcing the winners on September 5th, the same day as my appearance on NPR. If I win, you know I’m going to do something extra-memorable on live radio, just to show love to you, the ListenToLeon.net faithful!
I want to win this thing twice. Let me stop bullsh*tting. I NEED to win this thing twice! I’m making strides toward my goal of corporate desk job emancipation, so right now, I’m treating these blog
Glamour model with the fit body and the huge breasts has been chosen to move across to the main house and take up full contestant status. She ‘appears’ upset at having to make a choice to leave behind Shanessa and the some other nobodies but I find that a bit doubtful. Amy appears to have one mission….to get naked on Big Brother UK. Stay tuned for some BB nudity I have the feeling she won’t be ablt to keep those tits to herself for very long. Saw some great pics of her get changed with the twins he just a thong and bra…quite the cleavage. It has been a very long time since the days of Michelle Bass, Shell Jubin and Jade and the plentiful nude females romping around the Big Brother house and we hope so much that Amy can bring back the theme.
She admitted to being a dirty girl and here she shows that she is not shy, just hanging around topless with her errr let’s not be rude….just her breasts exposed. Not exactly the hottest totty to grace our screens on reality television this year but we must thank her for re-igniting the quest for nudity. Call her what you want; yummy mummy or MILF; she says she is different and happy to be who she is (except for always being on a diet). All she wants to be is a Playboy mansion bunny! Kepe cheering on this single mum and lets hope she makes it into the main house as a full member soon then we might catch her swimming nude or showering naked…you know the usual stuff…preferably without the knickers or thong on.
Click here to see the vid caps if Shanessa uncensored.
New house mates…sorta! Well things were bound to get a bit dull after Charley was voted out by the public. So Channel 4 have opened a halfway house for a handful of wannabes who don’t have full housemate status in the British 2007 house. Got a couple of freaky guys and then a self-proclaimed dirty woman Shanessa, a glamor model with some big boobs called Amy Alexandra and a posh 22-year-old student who appears a tad crazy (I’m waiting to find out what her story is!) called Kara-Louise. Oh btw Chanelle finally walked from all the crap she got from Ziggy and I’ll run her ‘best bits’ in a post soon. It is a shame about losing eye candy in both Chanelle and Charley but on the bright side we get these three albeit slightly strange bunch fo ladies. In regards to the halfway house system so far I believe the house mates have chosen David and Kara-Louise to move across and then voted for Ziggy to move over to the halfway. Now later today Ziggy will have to
Power Surge - One could make a halfway decent argument that a measure of the correctness of a goal is the means by which it must be achieved. When the value of a course of action is not readily apparent, its adherents must resort to more guile or coercion than when the benefit is more evident. History is replete with examples that support this theory. From racism in the Jim Crow South to Communism in the old Soviet Union to apartheid in South Africa, the effort that was expended the maintain such systems laid bare the inevitability of their collapse. The desperation of these efforts is nearly rivaled by those of the elites of the American Left as it pertains to the Iraq War.YOUR GOVERNMENT, on the basis of outrageous lies, is waging a murderous and utterly illegitimate war in Iraq, with other countries in its sites [sic]. YOUR GOVERNMENT is openly torturing people and justifying it.YOUR GOVERNMENT puts people in jail on the merest suspicion, refusing them lawyers, and either holding t

With help from our cat Kitt we made the insane 6 hour trek to Flagstaff, Arizona. You see I have never owned a car with cruise control. The sweet pleasures of driving with my fingers was discovered last night. weee! We did not get going until after 3pm due to the movers taking a little longer than we had first hoped. This made our first day of travelling a long one.
At one point J looks over at me and asks “Is that your nervous, I am going to drive us all off the road laugh?” Muwahahaha! Clearly he did not appreciate the self propelled glory of cruise control through mountainous terrain.
Becca got confused at some point. She figured we would arrive in Los Alamos in no time at all. No stopping for dinner or the night. If we were stopping it meant we had arrived. No matter how many pictorial representations of Riverside to Los Alamos I drew on Colour Wonder paper, she was devastated that we were not “There Yet”.
Pooh to the rescue! We threw character building o
Proposed by Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises Ltd., Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) Project has been put on hold following the disagreement between the Karnataka Government and the project company.
The state government claims that NICE was indulged in construction business at the cost of land allotted for the project whereas the contractor blames the government to put obstacles in the success of the project.
BMIC project has been proposed expressway between the two cities.
The state government has been fined for Rs 5 lakh the last year for indulging in futile litigations to stall the project regarding development of 8 new townships in the city.
H D Kumaraswamy, the present Chief Minister of the state of Karnataka, has sought permission to carry out a fact finding enquiry to determine the availability of 2,289 acres of extra saleable land which has a market value of a whopping Rs 30,000 crore.
The minister has also asked the SC to permit the enquiry commission to
Right, so we're halfway through the CWC final, with Australia making 281-4, thanks to Adam Gilchrist's brilliant 149 off only 104 balls - the highest score ever in a World Cup Final, and fastest 100 to boot. The first 10 overs were steady, only 46 (Australia's lowest score off 10 this whole tournament), but between 10 and 20, they were unstoppable - 91 runs scored, and it wasn't even a Power Play.I must admit (somewhat sheepishly) that I had been thinking that perhaps the time was right for Gilchrist to retire, he hasn't been the dominant force he used to be. It's often appeared to me that he's not been hungry to keep going, and as a result, was making a lot of 20's and 30's, never going on to make huge 100's. But I guess what better occasion to be hungry than a world cup final? And he rode his luck, but what a great innings.Match-winning? I think so, it will take a phenomenal innings from someone to beat that. And Sri Lanka's problem is that they have a lot of run-a-bal

I'm 35 today. In the Bible, God put a limit on the life-span of humans of 70, with a caveat of 80 if one has "special mightiness". Being somewhat sure that I am not in possession of any mightiness of the sort, I can project that, as of 7:17 PM CST, I will have lived half my life. That may seem like a morbid thought best left to an old fart who is much closer to checking out than myself, but some days I feel closer to the end than anyone has a right to feel. The back aches, the knees creak, the mind seems to forget more easily, and the stairs seem to take longer to climb.Even so, I have few regrets. I live a fairly nice life in a fairly nice neighborhood. I have access to books and music. My love life may be mostly imaginary, but that concerns me less and less as the years scream by. And I have a family which I wouldn't trade for anything, warts and all.So, hopefully, the next 35 years will be as interesting.Even if I am losing my hair.
Wednesday has been a busier day than usual.Several straight hours of grad homework while simultaneously watching the ongoing court battle over Anna Nicole's remains on MSNBC can be quite taxing.I've gotten the most remarkable e-mails in the last 24 hours, including a fellow ufologist in the Kansas City, MO area concerning my own beloved Kansas based investigative organization...The DSL is a Godsend. Much, much better than the old cable Internet connection we had here. (This just proves that the problem was not my computer, after all.)I had forgotten what it's like to be able to check messages in a timely manner...When I called to cancel the cable Internet, they sure enough offered me a half price rate for a few months to give it a second chance. I told them I couldn't take that kind of chance...And, yada, yada, yada--they wiped out my old e-mail account I had with their company within six minutes of hanging up.For the first time, it seemed, they actually kept one of their promises.
New York Fashion Week is well underway. Many designers have brought their creations out for fashion-minded folks to ogle, to write about, to contemplate purchasing, or simply to purchase. Thus far, I've perused the designs of Adam Lippes (ADAM), Badgley Mischka, Erin Fetherston, BCBG Max Azria, Charlotte Ronson, and Lela ...
