      HAGIA SOPHIA
Hagia Sophia (Greek: Ἁγία Σοφία; "Holy Wisdom", Turkish: Ayasofya, Latin: Sancta Sophia or Sancta Sapientia) is a former patriarchal basilica, later a mosque, now a museum, in Istanbul, Turkey. Famous in particular for its massive dome, it is considered the epitome of Byzantine architecture. It was the largest cathedral in the world for nearly a thousand years, until the completion of the Medieval Seville Cathedral in 1520.The current building was originally constructed as a church between 532 and 537 AD on the orders of the Byzantine Emperor Justinian, and was in fact the third Church of the Holy Wisdom to occupy the site (the previous two had both been destroyed by riots). It was designed by two architects, Isidore of Miletus and Anthemius of Tralles. The Church contained a lar

      Hagia Sophia pencil sketche
Hagia Sophia in Istanbul which means the “Holy Wisdom” was constructed in 532 AD as a church, and later in 1453 it was turned into a mosque when constantinople was conquered by the Ottomans on the orders of Sultan Mehmet II, four minarets were then added to the church as well as other Islamic features as the minbar which was used by holy men (Cheicks) to perform their preaches and sermons. Well unfortunately the four minarets are not visible in my sketche, but they are there I am sure. What I really like about this (former church, later mosque, currently mueseum) is that the Islamic features and especially the 4 slim minarets outside do not appear to be a later addition to the initial body, on the contrary they blend in beautifully. Its Amazing !!!!!!!!!!!!!Please post your comments ab

      Hagia Sophia
Hagia Sophia, (the Church of) Holy Wisdom, now known as the Ayasofya Museum, was an early Christian Church and later an Eastern Orthodox church which was transformed into a mosque in 1453 by the Turks, and converted into a museum in 1935. It is located in Istanbul, Turkey. It is regularly considered one of the greatest, and most beautiful buildings in history. Its conquest by the Ottomans at the fall of Constantinople is considered one of the great tragedies of Christianity by the Greek Orthodox faithful. The name comes from the Greek name Ἁγία Σοφία, a contraction of Ναός τῆς Ἁγίας τοῦ Θεοῦ Σοφίας, meaning “Church of the Holy Wisdom of God”. It is also known as Sancta Sophia in Latin and Ayasofya in Turkish. Although it is sometimes called “Saint Sophia” in English, it is not named after a saint named Sophia — the Greek word sofia means “wisdom.” It was constructed in five years, from 532 to 537, and designed
