Over many decades, the old SA Guineas threw up one great horse after another. Indeed, as an event, it has the highest average merit rating among its placed horses of any race for three-year-olds on the South African racing calendar. How’s that for an event which our programmers believe to be worthy of only Grade Two status these days? And Saturday’s outcome more than vindicated the race’s traditional billing, pitting with very few exceptions, the best three-year-old milers in the country against each other. From a Summerhill perspective, we’ve provided the heroes for the event two years in a row, but in each case we’ve been cast in the role of “giant killers” rather than as the giant himself.
There was this couple that had been married for 20 years. Every time they made love the husband always insisted on shutting off the light.
Well, after 20 years the wife felt this was ridiculous. She figured she would break him out of this crazy habit. So one night, while they were in the middle of [...]
Killing a fly, no big deal right? Well, at the meditation retreat I was not only in for a mind training but also encouraged to follow the Buddhist precepts of which one is saying something like, “You shall not harm any living being.” For obvious reasons: we’re all manifestations of the same life energy. I [...]
SIDEWALK SMOKERS SMELL GOOD LOLFlickr Photo: :: David Newman I have written a number of articles in favor of smoking bans. Very strange!! Converting a bad habit to millions !!. Possible? Yes, possible. Read the following, if you have a bad habit to stop and earn instead. Spoiling your life, that your family and kids expecting for long time, through a bad habit, you must feel pity and shame on yourself. Remember the cute and innocent faces of your kids when you picking next cigarette or peg.Simple example of a bad habit is, spending money to get something regularly that is not only helpful to you anyway but spoil health and life.. e.g. smoking, drinking etc..A perfect example is as follows: A guy smoking 2 packets of cigarettes per day and the cost of the same is Rs.80/- in an average. In a month he is spending Rs.80 x 30 = Rs. 2400 and yearly Rs.80 x 30 x 12 = Rs.28,800/- !!!. If he had that habit for last 10

It looks like Cristiano Ronaldo's Spanish girlfriend isn't quite as classy as his performances on the pitch for Man Utd.
His new girl, Spanish model Nereida Gallardo, comes complete with the WAG orange tan, and a less than healthy smoking habit.

Have you suddenly found yourself attracting and being involved with women who are cheating on you?Do you find yourself imagining all women who you enter into a relationship with cheating on you as well? For the most part, a man who finds himself answering yes to the first question also answers yes to the second question as well.Whether you believe in it or not, you have the power to create the reality that you have with women. For a variety of reasons getting involved with cheating women is what you have found yourself deciding to do.Most of the time, your imagination didn't start out with you wanting to be with a cheating woman.Hell, for the most part men simply start off imagining themselves with a woman based on the physical aspects of a relationship. Then, as luck would have it, you happ
When a friend of mine moved from a South - American country to Canada, he announced within a month, "Cigarettes are just too expensive here! I'm quitting smoking". I figured, "Like he's gonna last, he's used to a pack a day!" My mistake. It's been three years now and he hasn't touched a cigarette since and he claims he doesn't miss it or feel any cravings. Not everybody is that lucky. Around eighty percent of people who stop smoking start again within a year. It sounds depressing, but many of these people feel reassured that they were able to quit, be it only for a few months and will try again soon. Most smokers will need up to four tries before they can kick the habit for good. Some physicians or people who consider themselves experts on smoking will argue that external aids are not necess
Title: Stopping the Barking Habit in Your DogAuthor: Patrick Carpen Stopping the Barking Habit in Your DogAll dogs will inevitably succumb to annoying habits. Mostof these habits are habits which affect you, the dog'sowner, and not everyone else. However, if you have a dogwho continuously barks, day in and day out, this isdefinitely a habit that will affect many more than justyourself. This is a habit that may come to such anout-of-control point in which your neighbors may becomequite perturbed, and this habit may even lead to somerun-ins with your local police force, which is definitelynot something you want to have to deal with.Initially, people began domesticating dogs in order to usethem as security or alert systems to give protection to thefamily who owned them. Now, su
Masturbation is a healthy and normal practice, like daydreaming or napping. Even masturbating several times each day is completely harmless. You may encounter people, books, or websites that say masturbation is bad or harmful; this is just plain incorrect. As any reputable medical doctor will tell you, old myths about masturbation affecting the eyesight, causing permanent fatigue or insanity, etc., have long been disproved. In fact, recent studies suggest that ejaculating regularly isn't just fun, it can actually help prevent a certain kind of cancer later in life. Most doctors would agree with these comments. Masturbating only becomes harmful if it begins to control your life and you'd rather masturbate then form relationships with other people. But, if anyone were to rationally list the
He is one of the most popular comedians in films. It is no exaggeration that not a single film, both big budget and small budget is released without this comedian making at least a small guest appearance. In fact, many producers and directors are of the belief that the very presence of this comedian is enough to set the cash registers ringing. Many of the top heroes also recommend his name to the director and producers and insist that there should be at least one comedy track in their film with this comedian. This comedian has a strange habit. He always carries a set of condoms and also a pack of Viagra wherever he goes. In this aspect, he is ever ready to grab any opportunity at any time! Folks say that his libido levels know no bounds although he is in his 50s. Courtesy:greatandhra
By Stefan Anitei, Science EditorApril 3, SoftpediaHuman habits are extremely diverse worldwide. But some really leave you stunned. And while we are searching for remote galaxies and worlds in the sky, some things seem to belong to other worlds. You can imagine the shock of Shamsunnahar Hena, a gynecologist in a Bangladesh hospital, when her pregnant patient said she had been eating half a kilogram (1.1 pounds) of soil every day since she got pregnant. An increasing number of pregnant woman in Bangladeshi Sylhetregion, more famous for its tea plantations, are consuming charred soil, which according to the local tradition, it boosts their appetite and health, translated into the delivery of a healthy child. But soil eating is a very dangerous issue (imagine that the anthrax bacteria and others

The latest from the Paw Tracks camp is Rings, a trio made up of former First Nation members Kate Rosko and Nina Mehta with the addition of Abby Portner. (Portner is the sister of Animal Collective's Dave Portner.) The sound here is certainly Paw Tracksian -- Rings' songs usually build from simple percussive or vocal phrases that morph as they repeat -- and it's a solid record in that regard. Through songs like "IsMore... He Handsome," with its three-part vocal and unsteady piano backing, opener "All Right Peace," and the lengthy "Tone Poem," Rings seem to be searching for an endpoint they can't quite see, a destination that maybe they haven't even sussed out yet. "Tone Poem" especially discovers a great groove between its piano, woodwinds, and a layered vocal setup that sounds like a girl
In my previous and famous article, convert a bad habit to millions, I have said the best possible methods to stop a bad habit and convert that spending to millions of dollars by making proper decisions. Why do we print things on 8.5x11" pieces of amalgamated fibers? It's a valid question these days. We have trained ourselves over thousands of years to cling to something physical or tangible. I just call it stuff.
Do you ever feel like your eating and exercise habits are full of 'shouldas' and 'shouldn'ts'? I should have eaten that salad and that extra serving of vegetables, I shouldn't have ate that bag of cookies, or had that (name your favorite vice).

There is, perhaps, no better word in the English language to better illustrate how you can incorporate healthy habits into your everyday life."A little planning goes a long way," says Johnson. "Eating healthy never happens by accident."For the most part, neither do good fitness, skin protection, healthy teeth, weight loss, and social ties. Many of these habits take effort that need to be scheduled into busy lives. To eat healthy, for example, it would help to set aside time to draft a menu, make a grocery list, go to the store, prepare meals, and pack breakfast and lunch.Research has found that people who generally live longer do so partly because of good habits. Here, i provide some of the following good habits for longevity.
logo from SPOTTTAs a consistent Entrecard dropper, I noticed there are some blogs who have another 125 x 125 widget but with the word SPOTTT on the lower part. Since I am seeing it almost everywhere, I became curious and check the site through Google Search. To my surprise, it is a free tool for link exchange for everyone.Being still a new blogger, I read their blog and learned about the history of free link exchange tools. According to an article at Fortune, the original free link exchange site was LinkExchange.com which was found in 1996 and used the banner size ad. However, Microsoft shut it down after nine years although it was very successful. This is because the pop-up banner is getting unpopular due to the rise of text ads by search engines like Google. Now after 12 years, Philip Kap

We already mentioned the merits of exercise in habit No. 5. Now, here's a tip on how to incorporate physical activity into your daily life: WALK.We're not talking about taking the time out of your busy schedule to work out -- that's important, too -- but infusing life- and limb-saving movement into your waking hours."Just move. Pace during phone calls, while you're brushing your teeth, while watching your son's soccer game," says Bryant, noting that every 20 steps a person takes is 1 calorie burned. An eight-year study of 13,000 people also showed that people who walked 30 minutes daily had a significantly reduced chance of premature death compared with those who rarely exercised, reports the American Council on Exercise. And there are plenty of opportunities to move those legs: * Take th
Appreciation HabitIf you have ever had the stomach flu for a few days running and have been unable to eat, you know how incredible that first piece of buttered toast tastes. The toast has not changed, it is your awareness that has changed; your attention if focused on the experience of eating the toast and you savor it, enjoy it and are grateful to be able to eat. Think about the things that you regularly do each day with little or no attention. Anything that has become a habit falls into this category. You probably have your morning ritual, shower, dress, eat, brush teeth, most of which you could almost do in your sleep. In a way you sort of are sleeping. You are not really awake, aware and paying attention to what you are doing. How many of the things that are essential to our survival d
Are you ready to quit smoking? Many smokers are simply sick and tired of smoking cigarettes, spending money on the habit, smelling like cigarette odor and of course adding to their risk of serious diseases. So, why don't you quit? I'll bet you've heard this question before. Many non-smokers have no idea how powerful the hold of nicotine is. This is why smokers continue to smoke although they understand the dangers of smoking. Nicotine is as addictive as heroine and it's hard to let go of it.Many people who feel the same way and want to quit smoking have utilized a stop smoking aid to help them get more control over quitting. There are several reasons why a stop smoking aid can make it easier for individuals to stop smoking. One of the main reasons is that nicotine addiction is so powerful.
"Decaffeinated tea is better," says Fleming, noting that the caffeinated variety can be dehydrating, and sugary drinks can lead to weight gain. There is some evidence that tea may help in improving memory, and preventing cavities, cancer, and heart disease. Fleming says, though, that the overall research is still inconclusive."There may well be some beneficial effects of tea, particularly the potential antioxidant effect, but we don't have great data on that right now that is that specific."However, there's no doubt that a cool iced tea can be a refreshing treat during hot days. Try flavoring your tea with juices, fruits, cinnamon sticks, ginger, and other condiments.Research has found that people who generally live longer do so partly because of good habits. Water and milk are essential fluids for good health, but they can also help with shedding pounds. The body needs water to keep properly hydrated and individuals vary widely in how much water they need. Joints need it to stay in motion, and vital organs such as the heart, brain, kidney, and liver need it to work properly. If you don't get enough water, the body goes into emergency mode, and clings to every single water molecule it can find, reports the University of Minnesota Water Resources Center. The stored molecules appear as extra weight. The weight is only released once the body gets enough water. The calcium in dairy, on the other hand, is known to be important for strong bones and teeth. Studies have also shown it can help prevent high blood pressure, kidney stones, heart disease, and

The ADA recommends five or more servings of fruits and vegetables a day as part of a healthy diet. These plant foods can do many things to boost good health, including: * Reduce the risk of some cancers * Beat the signs of aging * Improve memory * Promote heart health * Enhance the immune systemOne way to incorporate fruits and veggies into your diet is to have them as snacks. "If you can do one thing [to improve your health], concentrate on getting fruits and veggies," says Johnson. "They are low in calories and high in nutrients."She says baby carrots and cut-up produce make tasty, convenient munchies. Other healthful snacks include low-fat yogurt and nuts (in moderation). The best time to snack is when you are hungry between meals, says Johnson. But beware: Cravings could

Out of all the frugal living tips that I plan to post in this series, none will be more effective, and have a greater impact on savings than this one. We North Americans love our cars. From an early age we are taught that cars represent freedom, popularity, and fun. At age 14 we watch with envy as all the cool older kids at our high school rip around in their rusted out Tercels, Rangers, and Omnis, and we eagerly count the days until we can get a driver's license and a sweet ride of our own. At age 16, after a stressful period of anti-bonding with our parents as they teach us to drive, we finally manage to obtain the golden ticket: our driver's license. One problem though: No way in hell they are letting us borrow the Audi so we can chauffeur our fast-food munching, drink spilling buddies
Our skin starts to age as soon as we are born and, according to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), the best way to protect it and look younger is to stay out of the sun.The sun has harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays that can cause wrinkles, dryness, and age spots. Overexposure can cause sunburn, skin texture changes, dilated blood vessels, and skin cancers.Avoiding the sun, however, is not always ideal or practical. To reduce the risk of skin damage, the AAD offers the following tips: * Always wear sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher. * Don a hat with a brim and wear other protective clothing. * Don't deliberately sunbathe. * Try to avoid sun exposure between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.Research has found that people who generally live longer do so partly because of good habits. This post is in response to a topic raised by Ashwini, a member at our MoneyTalk India Finance Forum (MTIFF) who sought help how to cultivate a habit of saving in her brother who spends all his pocket money in no time and keeps asking for more money.
I thought about it a bit and here are some tips I could think of, which if used effectively can make youngsters understand the importance of savings
Look up the word "hobby" in the Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, and you will find the definition as "a pursuit outside one's regular occupation engaged in especially for relaxation."Since they are relaxing activities, hobbies are usually enjoyable. Some people find joy in craftwork, bird watching, sports, going to flea markets, walking in the park, or playing cards. The joy may help people live healthier and recover better from illness. For one thing, taking part in hobbies can burn calories, more so than just sitting in front of the TV.In a study of people who had undergone surgery, Jenkins found that people who were involved in hobbies before their operation had better recovery six months later, compared with people who did not have hobbies. The participants with hobbies tended to
Flossing your teeth every day could add 6.4 years to your life, according to Michael Roizen, MD, author of RealAge. In his book, Roizen lists flossing as one of the most important daily activities -- along with exercise and quitting smoking -- that could extend life span.Roizen's calculation may raise some eyebrows, but the idea that oral health is connected to overall health isn't far-fetched.The mouth, after all, is an integral part of the body. "Teeth have a blood supply, and that blood supply comes from the heart," says Richard Price, DMD, consumer advisor for the American Dental Association (ADA).Researchers suspect that the bacteria that produce dental plaque enter the bloodstream. They say these bacteria are somehow associated with the inflammation that occurs with plaque that block
We already know that physical activity has a bounty of benefits, which makes it so puzzling why so many people just don't do it. According to the CDC, more than 60% of Americans do not get regular exercise. In case you needed an incentive, here is a review of the advantages of exercise, per the National Cancer Institute: * Helps control weight * Maintains healthy bones, muscles, and joints * Reduces risk of developing high blood pressure and diabetes * Promotes psychological well-being * Reduces risk of death from heart disease * Reduces risk of premature deathStudies have also shown a link between exercise and a reduced risk of certain cancers.Besides its long-term effects, moving your body has immediate benefits, says Cedric Bryant, chief exercise physiologist for the Am
Volunteer. Go to church. Join a club. Whatever you do, do it with people. Communal activities are good for your physical and mental health, according to a study published in the March/April 2004 issue of the American Journal of Health Behavior. It makes sense, says C. David Jenkins, PhD, author of Building Better Health: A Handbook of Behavioral Change. He says social ties have many benefits, including: * Providing information. You may think for instance your frequent nosebleeds, coughing, and sneezing episodes are trivial, but when a close friend or relative hears of it, he or she may encourage you to go to a doctor. If the symptoms turn out to be a serious condition, the social tie could have saved your life. * Instrumental help. Friends and family can provide physical support in ti
"Your body has to have enough time to rest," says Michael Fleming, MD, president of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP). Otherwise, he says you may find yourself feeling cranky and tired. This may sound like common sense, but according to the National Sleep Foundation (NSF), more than two-thirds of older adults suffer from sleep problems and many American adults don't get the minimum amount of shuteye needed to stay alert.Sleep is vital to good health and to mental and emotional well-being. The NSF reports that people who don't get enough slumber are more likely than others to develop psychiatric problems and to use health care services. Plus, sleep deprivation can negatively affect memory, learning, and logical reasoning. Not enough ZZZs can also be hazardous. More than one-hal

The AHA recommends a serving of fish two times per week.Besides being a good source of protein and a food relatively low in the bad type of dietary fat called saturated fat, fish has omega-3 fatty acids -- which have been shown to reduce the risk of heart disease.Fatty fish such as mackerel, lake trout, herring, sardines, albacore tuna, and salmon, are rich in two kinds of omega-3 fatty acids: eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).Foods such as tofu, soybeans, canola, walnuts, flaxseed, and their oils contain alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), which convert to omega-3 in the body. Even though the benefits of ALA are controversial, the AHA still recommends foods containing it as part of a healthy diet.In addition to their heart-health benefits, there is some evidence that omeg
Lyrics:
Memories consume
Like opening the wound
I'm picking me apart again
You all assume
I'm safe here in my room
Unless I try to start again
I don't want to be the one
The battles always choose
'Cause inside I realize
That I'm the one confused
I don't know what's worth fighting for
Or why I have to scream
I don't know why I instigate
and say what I don't mean
I don't know how I got this way
I admit that my writing isn't always top-notch. I occasionally forget to dot my i's and cross my t's, put in too many commas and leave out the odd second quotation mark. Teach Children The Habit Of Reading - Teaching children the habit of reading will help them to become successful in their school career and life. Reading begins in our children's ears. If they are listening to us, then the can easily learn how to read. Reading and listening should corporate for a better result. And as a parents, we have a great role to play for the success of our children in reading by talking to a child, reading books to him, and playing games. The more books you read to your child the widen her vocabulary is. With more vocabulary it allows the child to recognize many words and language as he read some books. It has been a week since I last posted on my blog. I feel like such a slacker, especially with many bloggers posting every day for NaBloPoMo. But it just goes to prove that I am a creature of habit. Once outside my usual routine and/or habitat things deteriorate quickly.
A little vacation time plus company holidays meant quite a few days away from my office. After one week of not spending 8+ hours per day sitting in an ergonomic office chair almost every day has my back completely out of whack. My muscles are a bit confused and feeling overworked. At least the microwavable hot packs are helping that situation. This is a fact about my body that I have come to know and accept. A bit ouchie, but expected.
My new discovery is related to blogging. In particular it is about when I blog. I compose most of my blog posts while waiting for processes to complete at work or after Princess has gone to bed at night. Days away from my lovely back saving chair has also meant days

Source: showbizia.rediffiland.comGandhi, My Father is a good tryThere are flicks that enlighten you. Gandhi, My Father is one of them that tries, and nearly succeeds.Like the promos go, it’s about the price one family had to pay for the nation’s freedom. The Mahatma’s eldest son, Harilal, is a product of the Gandhi’s ideology — albeit negative, and the movie is a daring effort by the makers to add depth into Harilal’s character on film. It revisits the reasons behind Gandhi being so popular, yet being a total failure as a father to his eldest son.The plot is somewhat familiar — we are ferried across the South African timeline of Gandhi (Darshan Jariwala) and wife Kasturbha (Shefali Shah). A middle-aged Gandhi shows the first signs of dedication to his cause, as he considers every child in the community
Lifehack.org offers a series of tips to get you back into an exercising routine -- and keep you there. Here are some highlights which will help you on your way:
Don’t Break the Habit -- Avoid long breaks in exercising, or you might find it more difficult to start again.
Make it Fun -- Exercise in a way that you enjoy, or there's no way you'll continue long term.
Get a Buddy -- It's easier to exercise with a friend than alone.
Create a Ritual -- Set a consistent time of day or other cue to keep your momentum going.
Isolate Your Weakness -- Figure out why you've fallen off the exercise wagon in the past, and you can keep it from happening in the future.
Remember that figuring out what type of exercise you actually enjoy doing is the best way to get yourself into a regular exercise routine – the last thing anyone wants to add to an already stressful day is yet another dreaded, no-fun activity.
And, the great news is it doesn’t have to take up a lot of your time!

Source: showbizia.rediffiland.comIndia singsAmongst all the reality shows that showcase India’s best talent — namely, Zee’s SaReGaMaPa, Voice Of India and Indian Idol 3, there is one voice, for me, that rules and rule seriously. It’s not the versatile sweetheart Emon Chatterjee who might just be the Indian Idol, it’s not Deepali of the same who who was voted out. It could have been Amit Paul who has a unique voice even though he made a mess of things with his Omkara rendition, or rather an attempt at it. Fine, girls go ga-ga over Chang but, hello, he’s far from Idol material as far as the voice goes, and if he does get picked, it’s official — our’s is deaf nation that can just see.Mauli impressed, totally, in SRGMP with her Mayya Mayya, immense energy and even miles away on telivision, we co
*Yawnz* I'm sooo out of date!
I've been so busy with the whole "development" thingy (which I cannot reveal yet) that I haven't had time to read the papers or just surf the net.
Anyway... *Ahem*
The new tagline for this year's Anti-Drug Campaign:
Drugs - If You Play, You Pay.
And this is apparently targeted at Singaporean youths who are at risk of falling prey to the "drug culture".
According to everyone else, the 4 months long campaign will be running from October 2007 to February 2008, by the National Council Against Drug Abuse (NCADA).
This time round, to create the awareness, the use of street art and online interactivity are being "tested" (so to say).
Okay... So Singapore is putting in effort to prevent the youths from getting "addicted", and yes - "prevention is better then cure". But what about those who are already suffering the addiction?
Are they beyond hope?

I started methadone August of 1999. By then I was a solid year and a half into a pretty heavy opiate addiction. It had started with dilaudid but as soon as we were able we had moved on to heroin. We live in a funny city. While it is reasonably large with close to half a million, it is near impossible to find heroin here. Except for a time in the 1970’s - so I have been told - it is one drug that does not seem welcome. Very white collar town so there is lots of pot and cocaine. Crack has had some effect as has speed but not like those other two. Because this is also very much a university and college town, there is also lots of ecstasy and its ilk. By the time I had even given a dilaudid a try, I was about two years deep into a large coke and speed habit. Funny can’t even remember what that was like but I know that we were using every day and had been for a long time. Then along came a little yellow pill and it was as if nothing else existed. It was wond

You have a drinking problem, though you may not know it yet. When you start toting your hip flasks everywhere you go, even to your in-laws’, then assess yourself. You might be already in trouble.
You as a social drinker
You are a social drinker when you drink only at parties or when there is a celebration at home. Visions of a social drinker sipping wine from a stemmed glass while chatting about the weather and the latest political scandal comes to your mind, right?
Social drinking or not, you still get tipsy. You may not see the flush on your face making you look like an overripe tomato or sunburned skier; you just sense the tightening of your face and your head is beginning to feel woozy.
You take sip after sip, chatting and laughing more. Next, you have lost your inhibitions, and drinking more than you should. More parties like this and more drinking, will lead you groggily to alcoholism or alcohol abuse.
You as an abuser of alcohol

There's like a million good ideas out there on what you can do to correct a bad credit or a bad debt situation. But have you ever taken a few minutes, sit down, and think about - "How in the heck did it all get so bad?"
Bad credit does not come about because it's something that you thought about and planned for. In fact, it's more like the total opposite. It comes about because you're spending on your wants, and not your needs.
Let's all just face it. Credit is a great thing to have, plus it takes your life to a whole new level.
Just imaging trying to book a hotel room in Las Vegas (or anywhere else) without a credit card!
Anyway...
There are, of course, ways that you can ruin it all:
1. Never pay your bills on time.
2. Use credit cards for all purchases, large and small.
3. Borrow against the equity in your home.
4. Buy the most expensive car or home that you can afford.
5. Amass substantial student loan debts.

miWisdom today… The vast majority of people have a natural tendency to overestimate their time, work, energy, decisions and actions. This is known as the Jellybean principle, which is the act of being incapable of estimating correctly how many colored Jellybeans are in the jar.
Back in high school there was always someone organizing a Jellybean counting competition of some sorts each year. They would get hold of the largest glass jar or container they could find, and would “stuff” it with as many jellybeans as was humanly possible. Then, one-by-one each student would attempt to guess how many Jellybeans were enclosed within the jar. I was intrigued as to how students would go about estimating the number of Jellybeans that were in the jar.
Would they try to calculate it mathematically based on the size of each jellybean and the dimensions of the glass jar?
Would they just attempt to “guestimat
my moment of plastic panic came a few months ago. As a science writer, I've spent the past several years following the steady stream of research into the disturbing effects of the chemicals that leach into our bodies from everyday plastic objects. I'd managed to stay pretty calm about these unsettling discoveries, but then I went to yet another presentation where renowned scientists described new, peer-reviewed findings on how plastic's ingredients may cause reproductive abnormalities and obesity. Afterward, I huddled with the other journalists present, brimming with uneasy questions: Does this mean we should ditch our refillable plastic water bottles? Is it safe for our kids to chew on plastic toys? Should we try to go completely plastic free?

Michelle Pfeiffer is addicted to buying wrinkle cream. The 49-year-old actress - who plays a hideous-looking witch obsessed with gaining eternal youth in new film 'Stardust' - admits she is a sucker for skincare adverts.Michelle said: "I see commercials and they're very convincing. I think, 'Oh, I'd better get that cream, I'm going to really regret it if I don't.'"I have so many products, I'm not kidding you. And you have to be a chemist to work out how to use them, and they all give me a rash."But the 'Hairspray' star insists growing older is helping her overcome her cream obsession. She said: "I certainly feel the pressure to look good that other women feel and, at times, it's a struggle."But the older I get, the less of an issue it becomes. The people you love get seriously ill, the people you love die. You see people struggling with real issues and that put things into perspective."

I’m delighted to have Rena Greenberg as a guest blogger. Rena is President of Wellness Seminars, Inc. and the author of several books about diet and weight loss (more at the end of the article). I believe that part of developing self-empowerment is learning to control your eating habits. Rena has some great suggestions for doing that! I had some serious cravings as I began this, tried some of Rena's suggestions, and I'm no longer needing to eat.☺Break the Binge Habitby Rena GreenbergThere is a magic question that you can ask yourself when you are about to reach for the last cookie in the box, finish the macaroni and cheese on your son’s plate, make a beeline for the refrigerator mindlessly, or pick at the desert that your husband is indulging in. This inquiry can help you to break the binge habit instantly. It is very simple, but extremely effective. The question is: “What is it that I am truly needing?”In most cases, when you stop to ask yourself, “What am I needing?

It’s always easy to gain weight and damned hard to lose it. Eating is one of the true pleasures in life and refraining from food has huge physical and psychological implications that cannot be easily discarded. Nobody likes to have to give up a pleasure, which is why many people drift farther and farther into fat without doing anything to stop the process. Moreover, recent data showed that the body does not respond to diets as doctors thought it should. The body has to adapt to changes and diets are seen as lean periods that should be offset by making fat harder to burn. While the body is certainly the most complex instrument we posses in our lives, it cannot discern between actual lean times and diets.
Another problem for the body is the widespread use of fast food, snacks and soft drinks. Fast food is highly powered food that fools the stomach into calling for more, despite the fact that one giant burger is the caloric equivalent of an entire meal. The giant burger is not usually

To make sure that my hubby and I didn't run out of money during our holiday, we had to be money smart.
The main step is to curb our spending habit. We didn't want to see a whopping amount on our credit card bill at the end of the month, so we tried not to charge everything to the card. During our trip in Kuala Lumpur, we only charged the hotel accommodation to our credit card. We wanted to save
One day I’ve decided that I should start running in the mornings to get back into shape. Two
weeks later, I was still thinking that it would be good to finally start doing it. Probably
from next week... Or better from the first day of next month... It continued this way for almost 2
months. Do you know how I finally managed to stop procrastinating it? I bought myself pair of
new running shoes and some sports wear and after that I simply couldn’t hold it any
longer. Investing in my new habit was the thing that actually pushed me out of endless
procrastination. You can use the same trick to help you start or resume your habit of
waking up early...

Can you believe this ? My hubby and I didn't spend any money on shopping this time....;D I think this is a great leap for us, especially my hubby whose shopping addiction is more serious.

To acquire the habit of reading is to construct for yourself a refuge from almost all of the miseries of life. ~ W. Somerset MaughamI was born with the impression that what happened in books was much more reasonable, and interesting, and real, in some ways, than what happened in life. ~ Anne TylerWhen the Day of Judgment dawns and the great conquerers and lawyers and statesmen come to receive their rewards -- their crowns, their laurels, their names carved indelibly upon imperishable marble -- the Almighty will turn to Peter and will say, not without a certain envy when he sees us coming with our books under our arms, "Look, these need no reward. We have nothing to give them here. They have loved reading. ~ Virginia Woolf
We talked before about giving a promise
to someone that you will wake up early. When given, such promise will hold you accountable, and

We are all procrastinators. Either consciously or subconsciously we delay, stall and put off various tasks that will make a positive difference in our lives. Procrastinating can be a learned trait from our parents or derived at birth. Habits are very hard to change without a conscious, deliberate action taken on our part.
Traditionally, procrastination has been associated with perfectionism, a

The Joey Harrington era might have begun in Atlanta. Michael Vick was indicted yesterday by a federal grand jury, charged with competitive dogfighting. And while Vick's future in the NFL is certainly in doubt, there is no denying the fact that not since Enron have we seen a stock plummet such as Vick's has.And this just might be a good thing for fantasy owners. With this cloud of uncertainty hanging over Vick, those of us who are addicted to owning Vick in our leagues might finally get a chance to break the habit.Every year around this time, countless owners start repeating the following mantra: "I will not draft Vick. I will not draft Vick..." Over the course of his career, he has been all but certain to burn any fantasy team he touches. And yet people kept drafting him. Something about the potential of it all was just too hard to resist. The blinding speed, the cannon of an arm, the ablility to go off statistically at any time."It's like having an extra running back," they would s
