(Great job on designing a challenge where nearly everyone got hurt by the way.) It was watching Joel drag Chet through the course. You know what's a really shitty thing to do? Drag someone through the mud and cause them to knock their head against several logs so that you can win a steak. And then, when they tell you that they hit their head, grunt back to them in your stupid caveman voice "I don't care". (For anyone who didn't see this, it was actually a lot more brutal than I'm making it sound.) I seriously was nauseous watching it. But then this show did something that it rarely does. It made me feel good

Have We Lost Our Humanity? Big Guts on Little Blogs! Let The Family Mourn!
Recently my son's have had a few things to deal with...unique and life altering.  My youngest son Bob 22 , lost a childhood friend...recently shot and killed by police.  This post is not about the police or even the chain of events that occurred but that fact that sometimes you just have to let family and friends mourn...without cruel words attached. I know that we could get into a heated debate here as to what transpired with this young mans life and maybe the twists and turns which caused his death...But the truth is...it's irrelevant...his parents lost a son...his girlfriend lost a boyfriend...and my son lost a childhood friend. While reading blog posts on this I was shocked and quite disgusted..disgusted enough to fire back but I chose a different route.  While re

      Oh, the Humanity
I've been really enjoying reading some other nurse blogs lately -- both the blog entries and the comments. But I've been noticing something that disturbs me in a way that I'm not sure I can articulate. It has to do with the way people react when nurses bluntly tell the truth about how hard our jobs are. This post, that deals honestly and gently with some of the difficulties that arise when providing gynecological care to obese women, inspired some very heated comments. This post, which takes a very different tone, also inspired a lot of anger. I enjoyed both of them and, at the same time, I totally get why some readers are pissed (by the second one, anyway). It's hard to be a nurse. It's hard when you're expected to care more about a person's health than that person does. It sucks w

On Nature and the Nature of Humanity
I started eating yesterday, breaking a two day stretch where all I managed was a half cup of milk. It’s human nature to destroy, damage, and deface. I am no exception. I have carelessly damaged something precious in my own life.Yosemite stands as a testament to the splendor and glory of God’s creation, but it also stands as a monument to humanity’s destructive tendencies. Several of its streams and rivers—no longer free to rush down their native gorges—are trapped by massive dams, and it is hard to find a view of the Valley that doesn’t include one or two long, gray, asphalt scars. Humanity at it's best...
If you read nothing else this year, read this at least:From MSNBC:Maj. Andrew Olmsted was shot and killed by a sniper in Diyala province on Jan.3. His was a dangerous job in a still-dangerous place in Iraq. Before he left for this tour, Olmsted knew he might not make it home. As an avid blogger for the "Rocky Mountain News" paper, he prepared for his own possible death by writing a final entry to be posthumously posted on his own Web site should he be killed. He wrote, "This is an entry I would have preferred not to have published…" The 3,000-word blog thanks his friends and family, quotes Plato and the sci-fi show "Babylon 5," and urged his readers not to politicize his death."If you think the U.S. should stay in Iraq, don't drag me into it by claiming that somehow my death demands us s

      Will religion ultimately destroy humanity?
As far as I am concerned fundamental Christianity and Islam are probably two of the greatest evils humanity will have to face in the future. Conservative Christianity and Islam try their best and more often succeed to prohibit and get in the way of scientific and medical research. They’re constantly attacking or trying to convert, people who don’t share their beliefs. Their philosophies skew the way people perceive reality; it holds them, and us, back from reaching full potential. Christianity teaches you that you are not worthy of living as soon as you’re born. Since birth you’re labeled a sinner, and the only way you can be forgiven for this sin (for which you had no part in even), is by accepting Jesus as your Lord and savior. If you don’t accept Jesus, you’ll burn forever in Hell. The messenger of Allah said the following: “Islam is to testify that there is no god but Allah and Muhammad is the messenger of Allah, to perform the prayers,

Glove Liners Are God's Gift To Humanity
Today, it was cold. So cold in fact that my normal winter gloves couldn't keep my hands warm. What a drag. But that's when I decided to try my new glove liners out. They look like thin gloves that barely keep your hands warm. But like Ma always said, "Dress in layers." You put the liners on your hands first, then the gloves over them. Awesome. You can immediately feel the new thickness that's sure to keep your digits warm.A couple of hours later outside, and my hands were still doing well. Not super warm, but far from as cold as they had been to begin with. This is the first time I've ever used glove liners, but it most definitely won't be my last.My last will be on December 21, 2012.

      2012: The Extinction Of Humanity?
By: Style of Conscience  Everyone hears about the different prophecies on how humanity will end. From the Bible predictions of the rapture and the Antichrist, to Nostradamus’s prediction of the Planet Comet, people hear theories and see evidence of our civilization coming to an end. However, the most striking of these prophecies lies in the predictions of an ancient, but highly sophisticated Mayan calender. The deciphering and understanding of the calender is whole other story in it’s own, so I’ll get straight to the point… The Mayan calender actually is a combination of 3 calenders. The religious calender, the solar calender, and the Long Count. For the sake of this discussion, i wont get into detail about the whole calender and just stick to the Long Count. The Long Count can record any day in history because it is supposedly the measure of days from the beginning of humanity to the end. The number system used for the Long Count is completely different than

All seven girls lifted the fallen girl , pacified her, two of them held the girl firmly and they all seven joined hands together and walked together and reached the winning post.

      Chefs For Humanity
I was contacted last week by a Chef’s For Humanity, an organization founded by Cat Cora (you might know her from Iron Chef America). The goal of the group is to gather culinary professionals and educations to fight hunger around the world. I think it’s a great group of people to push fighting world hunger, and I like that it’s outside of the political world, just a group of people trying to do what they think it right. I’m hoping to become a ‘Blogger For Humanity’; I think the blogosphere is a great place to raise awareness of what’s going on in the world. No, I don’t think just blogging about hunger is going to fix the problem. There are political issues with this topic that even the best meaning chefs won’t solve. However, there are also a lot of issues that can be lessened, and having a group that’s not part of a government is a great step toward that, I think. So how can you get involved? Here’s a press release

My World: Best Place To Be Far From Humanity
As human being, sometimes we like to be alone in a quiet place far from everything to find peace of mind…away from the noise of pollution i.e. TV, computer, cars, people, etc. It may be a deliberate choice or a contagious disease. Let me explain, for myself I find my solitude when I am in my world (my room!) blogging. In my closed world I can hide from others who all day don’t give up on searching for me. It’s not because I do not wish to see them, it’s just that I want to remove all distractions around me so that it’s easier to concentrate, reflect or meditate. I think I am becoming a monk but temporary I’m not looking for spiritual enlightenment, but just giving myself ‘me time’ as a reward for my mind. What is the best place for you to be far from humanity? Maybe in space? You wish! (more…) If you like this post, buy me a Smirnoff Ice.

News Round-Up: Oil, Biofuel, World Hunger and Crimes Against Humanity.
The world has 800 million people suffering from hunger. About 100-150 million of those receive regular food aid. Up to now, we could say "the world is producing enough food to feed everyone, so it is just a matter of re-dividing the food!". This might no longer be true. In less than 10 years, the price for a barrel of crude oil went from less than US$20 to almost US$100. Soaring fossil fuel prices, and the push for non-fossil fuel -either out of environmental concerns, or to create less dependency on foreign oil- had many governments stimulate farmers to switch from food crops to biofuel crops. As if they really had to stimulate farmers: the growing demand made biofuel a real profitable cash crop. So, more farmers growing biofuel, means less farmers growing food crops. More land in use for biofuel, less land for food crops. The dilemma shows even more drastically in developing countries. As an example, the government of Swaziland announced this week that it would be allocating thousands

      Kissinger - Crimes Against Humanity
CHILE (PART II): DEATH IN THE SOUTHOn November 9, 1970, Henry Kissinger authored National Security Council Decision Memorandum 93, which reviewed policy toward Chile in the immediate wake of Salvador Allende's confirmation as president. Various routine measures of economic harassment were proposed (as per Nixon's instruction to "make the economy scream"), with cutoffs in aid and investment. More significantly, Kissinger advocated that "close relations" be maintained with military leaders in neighboring countries, in order to facilitate both the coordination of pressure against Chile and the incubation of opposition within the country. In outline, this prefigures the disclosures that have since been made about Operation "Condor," a secret collusion among military dictatorships across the hemisphere, operated with the United States government's knowledge and indulgence. The actual overthrow of the Allende government in a sanguinary coup d'etat took place on September 11, 1973, while K

What Does All Of Humanity Desire by Manoj Sharma
What Does All Of Humanity Desire? by Manoj SharmaAll of humanity knowingly or unknowingly ultimately desires to re-discover, re-connect and re-merge with the source of the universe. This does not necessarily have to only happen in seclusion, it can well happen through the normal course of an active modern life. The above is true for all people, of all ages, all educational levels, all economic standings, all political affiliations, all societal variations, all geographical regions and all manner of sophistication. And this in itself should be spectacularly illuminating. Those in the know, know that something magnificent comes to light from within a human being as the human being pursues this most ultimate of human desires. A certain clarity of mind, stability of emotions, soundness of body and freeing of the spirit are just some of the obvious observations. While it is intuitively well known that there is something very powerful, purposeful, meaningful, timeless and true at play in the pu

UN To Humanity: "Our Natural Resources Are Almost Gone"
This page reveals the details behind the UN's new report on our environment. It doesn't describe a very abundant future. According to the United Nations, we as a world society are almost past the point of no return. Recovery is possible, if we act now, but it seems we are too "in the moment" to take the necessary action. With less than 1/6th of the world being industrialized we are already using 1/3 more of our natural resources than is sustainable. By 2050, we should have 150% as many people as we do now. That's a global population of 9 billion people. China and India are racing to catch up to the U.S.'s standard of living, but the report points out that there simply aren't enough natural resources to get them to where they want to be.Farmers' runoff is changing the water in many areas, deoxygenating it and killing all the normal life. Deoxygenation is exactly what happened when the dinosaurs died. The water, devoid of oxygen, became a habitat for bacteria that produced

Global Warming - A Threat To Humanity And Environment Posted By : Dirk Wolbers
Scientists have already warned the world of the possible results of global warming some thirty years ago. After present day wars it is the biggest threat to our way of life. Due to the change of climate which is caused by global warming, destructive storms prevail, floods and landslides aggravate, glaciers are melting, sea level are rising, droughts affect crops and livestock production,. These are some of the catastrophes brought about which need speedy solutions and a strong resolve to cope with the situation. But have we done anything to rectify the problem? Do we allow it to carry on without fighting it? Now it has grown to such huge proportion that a worldwide effort of every country and government is required to promote awareness among the population on how to alleviate the situation. Governments should not only foster action among individual citizens and businesses, but also among other countries worldwide. More: continued here

He recalls the hatchet-head Without a handle, in the shop And go gets it, and wants it for his own. A broken-off axe handle behind the door Is long enough for a hatchet, We cut it to length and take it With the hatchet head And working hatchet, to the wood block. There I begin to shape the old handle With the hatchet, and the phrase First learned from Ezra Pound Rings in my ears! "When making an axe handle The pattern is not far off." And I say this to Kai "Look: We'll shape the handle By checking the handle Of the axe we cut with—" And he sees. And I hear it again: It's in Lu Ji's We Fu, fourth century A.D. Teenage Pregnancy Stories - The Humanity behind the Numbers
Not only do teenage pregnancy stories serve to make girls feel like there is someone out there listening to them, they also show girls and others that the statistics listed on all the reports talking about the "teen pregnancy problem" are not merely numbers. Those statistics represent human beings with emotions. The statistics on abortion are particularly deceiving in their coldness. It is easy for someone to rattle off percentages when there is no face attached to them. But teenage pregnancy stories make it more difficult to reduce teenage experiences to mere numbers. Indeed, the case with abortion illustrates the difficulty in classifying teenage pregnancy with simple statistics. Teenage pregnancy stories illustrate that many teenagers are devastated by an abortion: "The day I aborted my baby I lost the will to live. Everything I ever built up I threw away. Through grief and pain I dropped out of college, threw myself into partying and fell out with all my best friends

      The String Attaching Humanity
I've always wondered about how people interact between each other, what's that mysterious connection between humans? when they feel each others pain and joy, lately I came to some sort of understanding for the whole thing. My idea about it is really simple, by asking simple questions, i came to this conclusion that maybe entirely wrong, how do we feel the presence of someone else sometimes although we don't see them or hear them? how do we know that someone is not happy although they are smiling? and how do we know that sometimes when people cry they are happy? Well look at it this way, think of these connections as strings attached to everyone, the relation with that someone defines the strength of the string and the amount of feelings transmitted through that string, like the human body, what makes us feel that our leg hurts? a bunch of strings we call the nervous system, so the vibes of feelings and emotions are transmitted between humans through these invisible strings, the st
