Prominent Scientist Warns of HPV Vaccine Dangers
Independent health researcher Grace Filby, who won a Churchill Fellowship for her research into phage therapy, is calling on the government for more research into the possible side-effects of the HPV vaccine that is currently being given to teenage girls. Filby believes that not enough is known about the effects of the vaccine on children with pre-existing medical conditions and weakened immune sy

HPV Vaccine Has a Higher Allergic Reaction Rate Than Other Vaccines
The rate of serious allergic reactions to the human pappilomavirus (HPV) vaccine Gardasil is considerably higher than that for other vaccines given to children, according to Australian researchers. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention currently recommends that 11- and 12-year-old girls be targeted for this vaccine, as most girls of this age have not yet been exposed to HPV and will

HPV Vaccine Blamed for Teen's Paralysis
A month after 13 year old Jenny Tetlock was vaccinated against the HPV virus, she missed the lowest hurdle in gym class. It was the first sign of a degenerative muscle disease that 15 months later left her nearly completely paralyzed. Her father, Philip Tetlock, a professor at UC-Berkeley, has embarked on an odyssey to find out whether the vaccine, Gardasil, is to blame. Tetlock is not the only o

Fear or Fact? Cervical Cancer and the HPV Vaccine
Unless you've been living in isolation for the past 1 - 2 years, you would have found it almost impossible to avoid hearing about the risk of cervical cancer, and the two new HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccines (Gardasil and Cervarix) that have now been introduced as a prevention strategy against this disease. In a revolutionary age where media campaigning has tremendous power and potential to infiltrate thinking and ideas on national and global scales, distinguishing fact from emotion becomes a confronting, yet subtle dilemma. The platform for the introduction of these 2 new HPV vaccines onto the worldwide market has been on the basis of the threat and risk of cervical cancer, and has presented the same dilemma to potential recipients of these vaccines. The problem is, although facts are a f

      HPV Vaccine Kills 3 Girls
Amid controversy over state legislatures requiring young girls to take Gardasil, Merck’s new vaccine for human papillomavirus (HPV), severe side effects are being reported. In all, 1,637 adverse reactions have been reported to the Food and Drug Administration, including three girls who died shortly after receiving the immunization. Meanwhile, 25 girls in Australia reported headache, nausea and dizziness after the vaccination, some so severe that they were hospitalized. These are steep risks for a vaccine that only sometimes protects against HPV, which is virtually 100 percent avoidable without a useless, expensive vaccine. And bear in mind: this year, some 11,000 women will be diagnosed with cervical cancer, which can be caused by HPV, and about 3,700 will die from it. In comparison, 16 times more American women will be diagnosed with breast cancer (178,480), and 11 times more will die from it (40,460).An article by Tim Worstall dives deeper into the HPV controversy. As Merck's own lit

      HPV Vaccine is Not Safe
As human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine requirements are being considered by state legislatures all over the United States, I suspect reports from this week's New England Journal of Medicine may prompt them to reconsider their positions. These findings that question the need for young girls to be vaccinated for HPV certainly aren't surprising to me. For one, even though Merck's vaccine Gardasil blocks almost all of the infections produced by two HPV strains, it lowered the appearance of cancer precursors by just 17 percent. These modest results certainly prompted some health experts to urge parents to use more caution before considering whether or not to vaccinate their young girls.Perhaps, caution isn't really the proper word to describe all the problems associated with Gardasil, as there are indications that blocking these HPV strains may open the door to newer, more virulent strains, once considered to be "minor" factors, negating any health benefit the vaccine may offer. All this a

      HPV Vaccine
Texas is the first state to mandate that all 11-12 year old girls be given the HPV vaccine before entering 6th grade. HPV is the human papilloma virus which can cause some types of cervical cancer. Texas Governor Rick Perry signed legislature which mandates all girls get the vaccine of Gardasil which is manufactured by Merck, by the school year 2008. As of right now this is the only vaccine for HPV that has been approved by the FDA. The shot which is given in three doses over six months, is not 100% effective in all cases and is effective only about five years. Each dose is $120 earning Merck $360 per vaccinated person. I am not opposed to people being vaccinated if they want to be, I am not opposed to a vaccination that can stop people from transmitting a STD, but I am opposed to mandating a brand new vaccine. Especially when we know how big Pharma is in bed with the government, including the lobbyist for Merck in Texas who was chief of staff for the Governor from 2002 to 200
