The circles in the pavement caught my attention, about the best thing I saw there, as the museum was shut and the building was shrouded in renovation material. I’ll go back though.
O Museu do Prado é o mais importante museu de Espanha e um dos mais importantes do Mundo. Apresentando belas e preciosas obras de arte, o museu localiza-se em Madrid e foi mandado construir por Carlos III. I finanziamenti potrebbero arrivare dalle banche. Basta che ci sia un po’ di avvedutezza politica per riuscire a fare un grande balzo di qualità internazionale. Speriamo.

L'architecte nord-américain Frank O. Gehry a réussi à déstabiliser les visiteurs du musée qui n'arrivent pas, une fois dehors, à situer les différentes galeries qui composent le Guggenheim (voir les liens Google Earth dans le panneau central) et qu'ils viennent de traverser.La raison ? Mise à part le fait que le "plancher" de l'édifice se trouve à 16 mètres en dessous du niveau de la ville, il se trouve que la galerie la plus haute se situe à 25 mètre au dessus du sol, alors que la hauteur maximale de l'édifice est de plus de 50 mètres ! !Autrement dit, la moitié émergée de ce monstre construit en 1997 et recouvert de feuilles de titane n'est là que pour la décoration (mais quelle déco !), et ne contient que du vide !Sur la photo ci-dessus, vous pourriez ainsi ôter toute la partie située plus haut que les 2/3 du hall d'entrée (la verrière au centre) sans supprimer une seule oeuvre....Vu dans l'émission d'Arte Architectures Rediffusions de l'émissi

This weekend, Solom R. Guggenheim Museum was displaying paintings from Zaha Hadid and Jackson Pollock in addition to its permanent exhibitions. Partly because I watched the biographical film, Pollock, I find Pollock's paint drippings more comprehensible than the Hadid's works.

Since the issue of "Guggenheim Economics" is raised (Newsweek 20041220), let me add that this franchise has the business model of a low cost carrier sponsored by minor league airports. But don't think economies of scale : the more outlets they open, the more dilluted the collections. The space and architecture makes for the cultural void and the original Guggenheim in New York now looks like a "ghost in a shell". Visiting Guggenheim Bilbao is quite an architectural experience but you're more marvelling at the craft of a software than the inspiration of an artist. And after the ride you realise you were lured into believing you actually met great works but hey, that's how the Planet Hollywood concept managed to sell for a little while. Stephane MOT
