the vibe of the artwork they wore and rocked it. Their hair and makeup was

At the end of the show they generously gave out free threads and let me

Hello to all readers! I'm not the author of this blog if you're wondering, just invited to write a post, to cover up for her since she will be gone for a while. But, don't run away now because i'm as interesting as the author, in fact, much more!Anywhoodle. Before i even start talking about myself, i shall tell you readers about the author of this blog, also a close friend of mine since Form 1.Her name is Sally aka Kakashi, and she is only 17 this year. She became my immediate best friend in Form 1, but we quarreled over a small, childish matter in Form 3, and got back together only in Form 4.Sally is a damn smart student, and also a prefect in school. She's the top student and she scores only As. It's impossible for her to get a C. Sally is a very quiet girl in class, and she is very stre
First off, props to all of the ITH’ers who have joined the Yahoo! Tournament Pick’ Em group. As of this writing, we’ve got 388 members and we’re the 8th largest group. We tossed around a couple of ideas on how to reward the winner of the contest and decided that we’ll grant the winner a [...]
What Next?
Being a parent is supposed to be a rewarding experience right? That is what we grow up believing and that is what we expect.
However, sometimes life does not work out the way we expect it too. When I was expecting my daughter, I was elated to find she was a girl. I already had a son and a daughter would complete the picture.
My pregnancy was normal, and there were no complications. However in my 7th month, I went into labor. There were no causes for it, it just happens, I was told.
From the beginning, even when my daughter was in the infant ICU, I knew there were going to be problems. I was told to expect it. Premature babies suffer from a lot of different illness, some medical and some emotional.
My daughter grew out of her medical complications fairly quickly and

Mary Cay at the opening of her show this past summer at Firehouse Gallery in DenverMy good friend and ceramic's mentor, Mary Cay, approached me about a month ago about writing a guest blog post. At first, being the wise aleck that I am, I replied, "Get your own blog!" Okay, I really didn't say that - I said sure, I'm running out of things to say (not really). Mary Cay and her development of kiln jewels were published in Ceramic's Monthly in February 2006, A Glittering Obsession Let me back up and tell you how I met her.... I moved back to Denver in the summer of 2004 after graduating from the University of Southern Maine with a degree in art - ceramic's concentration. I did not feel very confident when I graduated because I didn't have a really good technical background. I found the Art Student's League of Denver and signed up for their advanced throwing classes taught by Mary Cay. I like to say now, "Everything I learned about clay, I learned from Mary Cay!" She's g
When Izzy asked me to write a guest post for December I was initially excited and flattered. But then I tried to write something and nothing would flow. I found it so different, and so much more difficult to write a piece for someone else’s blog than for my own. Not because Izzy led me to believe she expected anything earthshattering - simply that blogs are personal spaces and to write on Izzy’s is strange - I feel like an intruder. Izzy writes from her heart - her words pour forth onto the screen and visiting here is like curling up under a nice warm blanket with a friend. Suddenly I was expected to turn up, not just to listen but with a prepared piece. It didn’t feel quite right.
Izzy’s readership is rather different to mine too, younger for one thing. So I shall take advantage of that and ask a few questions that I rather fancy having a young person’s perspective on. So don’t be shy - I want you to say what you think!

A Well Informed Buyer Makes for a Smooth Transaction
Today's homebuyer comes into a home search with an enormous amount of information. The internet has made virtual house hunting possible 24/7. It is not unusual for my clients to come to me with a predetermined list on properties to view. Sometimes we even find the right house on the list, other times we view the e
Tim and I are thrilled to share the Tuesday Spotlight with Tina Burt. It is particularly appropriate that Tina be featured as a guest blogger, since she is a dear friend we first met while living in the Duckabush Valley, for which this blog is named. Now serving with New Tribes Missions in Thailand, Tina and her family are dearly beloved kindred spirits. Wherever they go, Greg and Tina live out the example that Paul laid down for the Thessalonians:
We loved you so much that we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well, because you had become so dear to us. (I Thessalonians 2:8)
Kathy and Tina on the eve of Tina’s departure for Thailand.
Hello Duckabush Blog Faithfuls,
As a guest blogger today, I will try to uphold the high standards set by my dear friends. Kathy asked me a while ago to think about submitting a post on her Tuesday Tips for Parenting blog. While obviously very honored by such a request, I was not sure what parenting ge
What are 5 top tips for fashionistas who want to go green?
1. Whenever possible, buy products made with organic, sustainable, and/or reclaimed materials. This is particularly easy when shopping for layering basics like tank tops; American Apparel, for example, has some great organic items. But there are more and more online boutiques offering chic organic clothes - check out ShopModify.com and Fashion-Conscience.com! And Beau Soleil makes gorgeous organic cotton and bamboo dresses.2. Buy from small, up-and-coming designers. They usually craft and sew all the pieces themselves, which, unlike factory-made apparel , creates zero pollution. Etsy.com is a fantastic online resource, brimming with skilled designers. 3. Try to find products that give back to the community in some way. TOMS Shoes,
Worship: a theory of everythingThere's a scientific and philosophical concept called the "theory of everything" which is an attempt to explain at a fundamental level some overarching reason for why everything is the way it is. I've used the term for years in my personal life as an impetus to provide a narrative for why my life is the way it is. Any time I find things going on in my life that don't fit within a concise "theory of everything", I begin to question if I've lost sight of God's plan for my life or I've bit off more than I can chew.In talking about worship, it's easy to get lost in the details and lose sight of the big picture. All you need to do is get stuck in a contemporary vs. traditional music argument to realize we're just not getting it. We need a "theory of everything" to give grounding to the concept of worship because it's really much bigger than electric guitars or hymnbooks.A little background: I'm 24 years of age, and I started performing professionally
I really needed this today. God never fails to bring an appropriate word right when we need it - sometimes we just don't listen for it. Maybe you need this today as well."The thought of David's heart at this time was a false thought, because he certainly had no ground for thinking that God's anointing him by Samuel was intended to be left as an empty unmeaning act. On no one occasion had the Lord deserted His servant; he had been placed in perilous positions very often, but not one instance had occurred in which divine interposition had not delivered him. The trials to which he had been exposed had been varied; they had not assumed one form only, but many--yet in every case He who sent the trial had also graciously ordained a way of escape. David could not put his finger upon any entry in his diary, and say of it, "Here is evidence that the Lord will forsake me," for the entire tenor of his past life proved the very reverse. [My younger brother, Smooth, recently found himself in some difficult and overwhelming circumstances where he was forced to work out his own “theology of discipline.” Below are some of his conclusions that I thought everyone out there in the blogosphere might benefit from, especially you parents. He gave me his permission.]"Let me first preface all of this by saying that we (my wife Kelly and I) are not perfect. We do make mistakes, but I can honestly say that neither of us have ever practiced corporeal punishment while angry. If ever I am angry or overly frustrated with Cana (our 2-year old daughter) for something she has done, we use time out. In fact, time out is the primary form of punishment and discipline that we use. We do believe, however, that there are some situations that call for corporeal punishment. We are also not necessarily criticizing other views. But this is the one we have chosen as we have sought God on it."We have chosen this view not just because it works b

Even if you don’t spend much time proactively building relationships, you should be able to point to numerous examples of relationship buildings such as with friends, co-workers, doctors, etc. We are all born with the ability to connect; just some of us utilize this skill more than others.Don’t Be a HermitAs long as you are not a hermit, you interact with people every day such as a bus driver, person at the dry cleaners, and clerk at the local convenience store. However, you may not have a solid business network to draw upon. This is okay because it is never too late to start and chances are that you probably have more people in your network than you think you do.Take a trip down memory lane and think about the relationships you hav

We’ve just stepped off an 18-seat Air Kenya propeller plane onto the airstrip at Amboseli National Reserve. Vast brown savannah surrounds us. A nearby herd of ungainly, big-horned wildebeest stares at the noisy, propeller-beaked bird that just disrupted their grazing. Beyond them sleek-striped zebra munch, flanks twitching, on the grass. To their distant left a trio of Thompsen’s gazelles leap toward the green foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, whose flanks disappear into masses of gray clouds.

Editor’s Note: The following post is by Laura Z, the online marketing guru at Blurb; Laura also writes about her voracious book consumption on a different site. We think the concept of Blurb is very cool, so we asked Laura to tell us about her recent trip to Mexico and how she created her own trip photo book.
There’s something about stepping on a plane in California and, a few hours later, ending up in a foreign land that makes it easy to do weekend getaways to Baja, Mexico. It’s my guilty-pleasure destination — one that’s not really “exotic” but still serves my annual need for beach relaxation. I typically fly into San Jose del Cabo (SJD), rent a car and get the heck out of there (the ratio of Americans to Mexicans in Cabo is frighteningly gringo-heavy).
A few hours north of Los Cabos is La Paz, a city that has become more Americanized in recent years, but whose beaches remain delicious. The hidden beache

A kiss is just a kiss…
My introduction to the wildlife of East Africa was a kiss from a giraffe. No, this isn’t a metaphor. We’re talking about a real wet lip-smacker here, a “come here big boy and let me give you a taste of my long black tongue” kiss.
But let’s back up a bit.
I arrived in Africa from London at about 8:45 on a humid Nairobi night. Almost immediately on exiting the plane, I was greeted by a smiling woman from the safari company that had organized my tour, and whisked through Immi
Thanks, Nienke, for your thoughtful announcement of my visit. You made me feel welcome at your remarkable website. I’m the kind of writer who likes a distraction. Could be the smell of coffee in the other room, or a “dump your microwave oven” urban myth that plops onto my desktop. No surprise, therefore, that as I began typing this piece about words origins, I allowed my attention to be drawn to your Tip of the Day: “Always take the attitude of a learner in your writing and be open to new insights from any source.” I hope it won’t seem that I’m malingering if I comment on this sage advice before I get down to business. In the 1990s, I enrolled in UCLA’s screenwriting program. At age 51 I thought I knew everything about cranking out scripts. I just wanted to meet producers so I could sell my work. But in my first class I discovered how much I had to learn about story structure. That humbling experience confirms the wisdom of your tip about being curious. Now about w

What follows is a beautiful thinking piece shared by Kenza from Mexico. We can talk and exchange ideas about “time” forever. It may make for an interesting conversation where the objectivity and subjectivity of time are considered; where famous poets or holy books are quoted; and where philosophical dogma and the weight of history are debated. Yes, that would make for an interesting time indeed. But I will leave that option aside as I sinc
Murray Suid, author of Words of a Feather, will be guest blogging on Monday, July 23. Words of a Feather explores the connection between words. Since writers live on words, I think it will be a lot of fun to learn more about them. The book is a zany, fact-filled collection of dual etymologies. So, if you have any questions about the root of a word or the connection of words, now’s your chance to ask an expert! “Words of a Feather probes the shared histories of word pairs such as ‘adversary’ & ‘advertisement’ and ‘cosmos’ & ‘cosmetics.’ It transforms the science of etymology into a fun and powerful vocabulary-building game. “It also goes beyond the peculiarities of linguistics to provide practical advice on a variety of subjects. For example, the ‘thank’ & ‘think’ entry gives a mini-lesson on how to make kids smarter while polishing their manners. The ‘anger’ & ‘angina’ mini-essay might actually save a few lives – or at least bring o

NoFollow -NoGood for bloggers? Sueblimely Australian blogger here. Please don't change channels; Blog Blond has allowed me the honor of Guest Blogging today. The topic: the pros and cons of 'nofollow'.Let me start by explaining what 'nofollow' is. It is an attribute that can be added to websites that tells search engines not to'follow' links to external sites so that they do not gain any advantages in the ranking process.I am talking today about 'nofollow' on user added links; for example, in blog comments, forums, and wikis. Here is an example showing a link with and without 'nofollow':Blatant plug for my blogrel="nofollow"Google now won't raise my ranking to 10 (as if!)BackgroundNofollow was developed by Google as a method of reducing online spam, the idea being that if search engines did not give spammers higher ratings for numerous external links, it would remove a main reason for spamming. The new service offered by Guest Blogger can make it possible.Guest Blogger's aim is to facilitate the connection between those who wish to find guest bloggers and those wishing to be the guest. The service is free and takes the form of a directory of blogs, split into categories, that are offering guest blogging opportunities. Darn! Guest-Blogger.com domain registrants have beat me into getting that domain name:
Registered through: GoDaddy.com, Inc. (http://www.godaddy.com)
Domain Name: GUEST-BLOGGER.COM
Created on: 27-May-07
Setting up a site mainly to match guest bloggers to those people with blogs but can’t maintain it for a while was my goal for that domain name. But I told myself that if it’s no longer available, then I guess that won’t take off.
And just today, I saw from Darren Rowse’s speed linking post that there’s actually now a service offering just that! It’s objective is to not pose a solution to those who are unable to continue maintaining their blogs for quite some time but to also increase the popularity of those who will be tasked to do some guest blogging.
Is it a paid guest blogging matching service? Not yet. But I think this service will become a very lucrative business if the management plays their card right. I suggest that they take in ghost b
Although removing hair from your body (or your face, in the case of you guys...or girls who shave your faces. what? anyway.) is not a glamorous task--actually far from it. It's tedious, boring, mundane...but it must be done. Agreed?

5 ways to find out what your readers are interested in reading
There is a quote by Alice MacDougall that says “In business you get what you want by giving other people what they want.” I would say this goes for blogging as well. Bloggers want readers. The way to get and keep your readers is to consistently give them the information they’re interested in. How do you find out what they’re interested in? Here are 5 ways:
1. Do you have a search form on your page? (you should) What are readers searching for? For example, I have a kids site where I have coloring pages, word searches, etc., and when I see in
We've committed to posting a blog entry at least 4 times a week. So, where were we last week?
