Dabei hatte schon Max Grundig Schlimmstes befürchtet. Grundig, in den 70er-Jahren ein globales Unternehmen mit 40.000 Mitarbeitern und 30 Fabriken, nur einen Steinwurf von Metz entfernt, schien damals besser gerüstet zu sein als der kleine Ortsrivale. Max Grundig, wie Metz ein Pionier der deutschen Rundfunkindustrie, sorgte sich schon fast mitleidig, dass "Metz im mörderischen Wettbewerb bald die Puste ausgeht". Von 1984 bis 1997 gehörte Grundig zum niederländischen Philips-Konzern - dem die Sanierung jedoch ebenso wenig gelang wie dem Rosenheimer Antennenfabrikanten Anton Kathrein, der die Grundig-Mehrheit 2000 übernahm.
We're not certain who still uses dictation machines -- isn't illegal to not know how to type? -- but Grundig's ready to drag you into the future with its DigtaSonicMic, which features USB sound in / out as well as trackpoint mouse control so you can manipulate files on your machine as you walk around the room pompously dictating away. The unit also interfaces with Grundig's full line of dictation and transcription software, allowing it to plug into your network and offload your spoken-word brilliance to a remote transcriptionist. Tiene dos cámaras fotográficas y una de ellas va previsto de un flash. Tiene una memoria interna de 100 Mb y soporta las memorias microSD. Además de todo esto tiene sintonizadora FM, GPRS, WAP y un navegador de internet. La pantalla tiene una resolución de 262k QVGA. Este producto está en fase de desarrollo y todavia no se sabe cuando saldrá al mercado ni el precio de salida, pero por ahora en el CeBIT está gustando mucho tanto por su diseño como por sus prestaciones.
