On the day the wall came down
They threw the locks onto the ground
And with glasses high we raised a cry for freedom had arrived

The Ship of Fools had finally ran aground
Promises lit up the night light doves in flight
I dreamed you had left my side

Today sure has been a great day, and I thank the Lord for it. Suzanne and her son Ethan had us over to their house for some fun in the pool. It was a perfect day for “splishing and splashing.” In my opinion, the only way to be outside on hot, humid [...]
It has been a very good day for the crew on board the International Space Station. Not only has the brand new Japanese Kibo science laboratory been activated, much to the crew's relief, the faulty toilet has also been fixed. Russian flight engineer Oleg Kononenko was able to replace the broken urine collection pump in a 2 hour repair job yesterday (Wednesday) and specialists in Moscow checked his
We got an offer accepted on a Novi home today. What is special about getting this offer accepted on this Novi home is that is has taken us one year to get it done.

Usually Mondays really suck, but today was different. I got into school this morning and checked my mail. I found a letter from the Arts & Letters office. I knew it was regarding this grant I applied for, but I figured it was a rejection letter because I submitted this almost 2 months ago. However, they gave me the grant!!!! It is $1000 towards travel for London and my Virginia conference. Since I already procured funding for Virginia from another source, I am going to use this $1000 for London. This means that I won't have to pay for transportation to and from the airports, or my dinners out of my pocket! Originally my advisor was going to pay for the hotel and that was it. But now I'll submit for hotel, food, and transportation and my advisor will have to pay much much less, and I'll

Linda Butts led our Great Day of Service project at LaBelle Elementary school. The following are thank you notes are from some Labelle students. The students were so excited about the grounds improvements that they have continued the beatification project by picking up trash and removing unwanted rocks from the flower beds.
Great day today. The sun was shining , I played in the garden , the kids played on the beach and all was right in "our world". It doesn't take much to make me happy. A day without children having meltdowns, police not at my door looking for my hoodlums , house neat and tidy....what more can I ask for ? Except that Stephen is still in the hospital and not really doing as well as we'd like. He is still running fevers with no explanation and his breathing is still an issue. Tomorrow they are changing his G-tube over to a J-tube for feedings in hopes of solving his ongoing digestive problems. He has really been wasting this past year and nobody seems to know why. He used to be a chubby little thing but now is nothing but skin and bones. Joseph and Lyosha got the shock of their life ton
So today was a pretty good day. It was sunny outside, warm in Chicago (a balmy 50!) and this morning, the elevator in my office building ran express right to my floor. I walked out of the elevator at 8:15 a.m. with a smile. For those in the Aon Center, especially on the high floors, going directly to your floor in the elevator is a big deal because is not an everyday thing. Then, I got really good news from work :) That plus a good workout at the gym and news that my Apple-baby has shipped via Apple-stork. I can't complain. There was a brief moment of worry when my iPod froze and I could not restart it, but fortunately it was fixed (in case you were worried.)So now I'm off to enjoy some Cheerios and watch the Colbert Report. Love that show.

I am tired and a bit sore, my right wrist is a tad tender and my knee is giving me a bit of grief.. But! But! But! I have had a great day today.. Yay.
I am finally back at TAFE after an impossibly long summer break. I have had two very intense days in the ceramic studio. I am a happy Happy girl..

So I have some Christmas shopping do. I get the boys to school, run home (yes, I take them to school in my PJ's) to get dressed, and I'm on my way. I need to drive some distance to get to the good shopping so I was hurrying along so I could get back in time to get the boys from school. It had warmed up considerably, and was a beautiful day. I didn't even need a coat! I went to TJ Max (LOVE TJ MAX) to pick up some clothes for the boys. The weather must have been influencing everyone! Everywhere I turned, folks were smiling at me and saying hello. Even the overworked retail clerks were in a good mood I guess, and extremely helpful. I headed over to Chipotle Grill for lunch (LOVE THEIR BURRITOS) and was almost immediately engaged in conversation with a couple of teenage boys. They were very cheerful, and made my solitary lunch fly by. What beautiful smiles they had! After lunch I needed to stop at Target for some last minute stuff. Again, the patrons and employees must have
The Monda Gun Club offers a great range of activities for all the family and boasts a superb restaurant.

Perched amongst the Monda mountains and boasting amazing views down the valley to the coast, this is the perfect setting to relax with a few drinks and a meal or take advantage of the activities on offer.
Quad biking is one of the most popular pastimes amongst the younger generation, and Ashley, the onsite expert, will happily teach beginners the ropes and also take the more experienced riders out on a more challenging trek around the mountains. The restaurant and bar open out onto an enormous terrace area with swimming pool, sunbeds and full chang
...but I can't really share it, because I can't figure out how the scanner works, and thus cannot yet post my gorgeous scan photo of my new baby. So until I can, I won't answer those much-loved questions 'is it a boy? is it a girl?' So no asking as it will be futile. Both grandparents know, and so does my brother. N's sister is still in hospital with no change. But best of all, Elliot knows what the sex of the new baby is, and when asked 'are you going to be a great big brother?' he replied with a very firm 'NO!' I guess only time will tell. Tomorrow, my lovely new bookcases arrive. Tomorrow means 3 days until my dad arrives. Tomorrow means 7 days until Elliot's second birthday party. Tomorrow means 8 days until a major ... as yet unmentioned event taking place in my life. Full explanations and questions answered soon. And I'm sorry I haven't yet managed a belly shot. Would you believe me if I promised one for this weekend? No? I wouldn't either.
General Musharraf announced Mohammedmian Soomro as interim prime minister as protests continue in Karachi.
In the U.S., though, talk of plan B has commenced.
Several senior administration officials said that with each day that passed, more administration officials were coming around to the belief that General Musharraf’s days in power were numbered and that the United States should begin considering contingency plans, including reaching out to Pakistan’s generals.
Almost two weeks since Musharraf openly laughed in the face of democracy, it appears as if the U.S. may be looking for an alternative.

Many markets have popped up along the Coast over the past few years, but the most colourful and vibrant of these has to be Nueva Andalucia.
Hosted every Saturday throughout the streets around the Bullring and Centro Plaza, the market opens from 9am-3pm and boasts over 100 stalls. Everything from suitcases, belts, bags and even carpets can be bought here along with holisitic remedies, fabulous hand crafted jewellery and beautiful tapestries and even designer curtains.
Last time we were there I bought two tablecloths, made from the most delicate lace and hand woven in intricate detail. The leather stalls are also impressive and the quality goods are great value for money.
Not only is this a great way to bag a few bargains, however, if you like to while away some time relaxing and people watching, then there is no better place than this. The rich, the famous and the glamorous make a beeline for Centro Plaza on a Saturday morning to enjoy the special atmosphere and to take in the sights
Klezmer musician, composer, author Yale Strom just let me know about a fascinating event taking place next week in New York. He's calling it "A Great Day on Eldridge Street," modeled after the famous photograph "A Great Day in Harlem."Strom's idea is to assemble 75 top klezmer musicians from around the world for a 10-day celebration, including workshops, concerts, and a group photo on Oct. 12.Here's the schedule:Thursday, October 11: Educational workshop with select group of musicians and second grade students at local Chinatown public school P.S. 1Friday, October 12: Procession 11:30am from the Eldridge St. Synagogue (12 Eldridge St.) to Seward Park featuring the musicians as they march down the streets of the Lower East Side. Those words were spoken to me a week ago today by a woman in my apartment building. Her admission echoed the exact thing I'd been thinking at that very same time. I had just been to the farmer's market and to the bookstore, the weather was cool, crisp and sunny, the sky a blue you could get lost in... I was absolutely in love with life. And for that woman, a woman I didn't know, to utter those
The NASDAQ had the rebound I was expecting today, and finished up 54 points to 2505. Admittedly, I had some help from the Fed today, as the futures were originally pointing lower this morning, until they announced the discount rate cut.The NASDAQ closed right about where I looked for it to hit on a rally, which was 2500. That is also about where the 200 DMA is. The close above that mark is good, but now we need to see some follow through Monday. If not, I think we will be resume the downtrend that began in late July. The next resistance mark on the way up will be 2550 (20 day EMA). It would be nice to see the NASDAQ hit that level early next week.I am pleased with the way this week has gone for clients, as I have cut their total losses in half (in aggregate), despite it being a down week for the markets overall. More on that in my next post.
Libertarians are licking their lips in anticipation of the U.S. Supreme Court decision on the D.C. gun ban. Mayor Fenty announced yesterday that the City is going to try and reverse the ruling of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit which said that the law banning handgun ownership in the nation's capital was unconstitutional. Of course, the Supreme Court first as to agree to accept the case. The justices have not taken up the subject of the right to bear arms in almost 70 years.Mayor Fenty really had no choice. If he did not bring the case to the Supreme Court then the gun ban would have ended due to the Court of Appeals decision. If he loses the next round, which he will, the City is no worse off then it would be had the case not been challanged. Both sides on this issue recognize how important the Supreme Court decision will be.Also today, the subject of the correct position libertarians should take on the war in Iraq gets prominent attention in the Wall Street Journal. Well I must say it’s been a brilliant day today, OK so the weather has been a bit undecided with rain sometimes, then sunshine and then back to rain, but what the heck, it’s my birthday today and I’ve made the best of it, by spending the day out with family and having fun.
So it’s back [...]
The kids and I went garage sale-ing today, on a whim. Man, it was HOT outside! The kids stayed in the air conditioned comfort of the van the whole time. Every time I pulled up to a sale, I parked and opened the side door so they could watch me and shout suggestions, such as, “I want that baby, mama!” I spent sixteen dollars at various sales and came home with the following:
4 Franklin books, and 1 Caillou book
The very same book of nursery rhymes that Mallory and I read repeatedly at the Urgent Care clinic last week
Dora Maryjane-style espadrilles for Mallory
Cute white sandals for Nikki
Cute Blue Maryjane-style Keds for Lexi
A baby dressed like a pig, who does the “This little piggy went to market” thing when you squeeze her toe
A matching pair of teddy bears with magnetic noses that stick together like they’re smooching
A ball with an airplane inside of it
A bench with colored pegs to bang in and out with a hammer
A BIG bag of My Little Ponies
After a marginal week, today was a huge boost for the portfolio (it put the week in the green for me). Total gains exceeded $4,600, with AIS leading the way (+$3,300). All but one stock was positive on the day (the one that did not, closed even). That included the two new additions, SIRI & LTXX, which also had strong performances, and closed at or near their highs for the day.Back to AIS. The stock moved up nicely today, on schedule. It was up .11 to finish at $2.04, which was the high of the day. The next resistance point should be the 52-week high at $2.15. If it gets by that, look for a move into the $2.30's. With all the shares I have, look for me to sell 10,000 shares on Monday. I will stagger my sales on the way up as I did before. Although, it's possible that I will hold 10,000 of my 30,000 shares for the longer term this time. We'll see.Lastly, don't forget the radio program for tomorrow. The link is on the sidebar to the right, but I will post it here as well when I switc
I have searched high and low and I can't figure out what caused today's afternoon explosion in GROW:I logged on during lunch today at around noon and did a quick scan of my stocks. When I looked at GROW I asked myself- honest to God- whether I was wasting my time with this stock. Minutes later: BOOM! It takes off and proceeds to rise 17% in a few hours. With GROW's silly gain, I finished the day up 1.7% overall. I've been way overdue for some dumb luck so I will happily take it.By the way, if you're a day trader and happened to catch that 12:45 crossover I sincerely hope you've already made your reservation at the finest restaurant in town for tonight. A celebration would clearly be warranted.Other than selling MGI earlier today, my only other transaction was to sell SY for $24.03. I didn't like how the stock appeared to stall just below several moving averages over the past two days so I dumped it. It's a tiny gain but I'm not going to cry about a 0.7% gain in 2 days.
Ever wake up in the morning and just know it’s going to be a great day?
Well, that’s what happened to me. It doesn’t happen very often, but when it does, it’s a wonderful feeling.
It was a beautiful sunny morning. I arose feeling well rested and full of energy. I then gave the girls a choice of a more decent breakfast - not the pop tart, instant oatmeal, or cold cereal they usually get. I even did the breakfast dishes immediately and not 5 hours later.
I spent some quality time with Girlie Girl playing with her Easy Bake Oven. It’s amazing how good a cake that has been cooked by a light bulb can taste. And even though it can be devoured within 2 bites, it’s the actual preparation that’s the most fun.
Lunchtime was spent at a nearby park. I let Girlie Girl make our sandwiches while I packed the rest of our picnic. We took the kite and some bubbles, loaded up the wagon, and headed out. Baby Bug had a great time running around and buring off all t

Today is going to be great I don’t want to wait Don’t want to hesitate Getting to the part that’s great. A video blog from Tulsa. The trip was lovely, it was a long trek to get to the state and a short stay, but a nice time. Pictures to come shortly.
On the way out of Tulsa, we made a stop by ORU, the conservative centerpiece of OK. Here are a couple pictures of huge praying hands, a building that looks like Noah’s Ark, and a prayer tower.
Despite the choppy market, the portfolio was up over $5,000 today. That should make for a great week as well. I am not sure if that will push the YTD gain to +50%, but it will be close. I will post the portfolio tomorrow as usual, and you can all check it out.

Andrew, Cait and I took a trip to New York City on Sunday. It was the first trip to the Big Apple for Cait. I think the only time she closed her gaping mouth was to chew food! Andrew had been there on several occasions for book dealings with publishers, agents, etc. But I was [...]
Uncle Karl’s been very busy over the last few days. If you are brave enough, you can listen to his speech delivered in support of Tom Reynolds (caught in the Foley scandal, btw) the other day. The speech is littered with the usual references to Nine Eleven, WW II, and all sorts of heroic behavior they suggest they’ve perpetrated.
In it, he’s on full spin mode and even suggests we buy a book of the written by Osama Bin Laden (Message to the World). Now if you ask me, any one at that level of the government that advocates that we read the messages of OBL is delivering the devil to our doorstep. Who is serving whom?
You have to ask how much of the speech is myth and pure fabrication. For people who are openly abject to speaking about hypothetical situations, Rove and his pals sure are prone to soothsaying and prophesizing about the future should the Dems win in November. Garry Trudeau has a fantastic comic strip this Sunday that identifies their strategy qui
Wow, what a great day. Naturally, I spent most of it at church, or at least hanging out with church folks. It would have been better if we'd spent some of it out in the world doing some kind of compassionate work with our neighbors, instead of just among "us church people", but it was a great day nonetheless. And it's not like it was all selfish, inward-directed stuff: the first weekend of March Mission Madness at Holy Comforter (highlighting the good works of the Episcopal Church Women, including the Pennywise Thrift Shop here in Vienna, and the United Thank Offering, which raises money for all kinds of great Kingdom work), followed by a time of Lenten fellowship with Mars Hill in which we ate simple homemade fare instead of the usual Chipotle burritos and reserved the would-be Chipotle money for a family in need. Then, this evening, a big Lenten fellowship/study session at Holy Comforter that I believe may lead to some missional transformation. So, it was all good.Unfortunate
Theola Labbe of the Washington Post documents the rise in charter school enrollment at the expense of DCPS. In less than two decades it has been predicted that all public school students in Washington, D.C. will attend charters. I guess by that point we will not have to argue over whether its the mayor or a board that oversees empty classrooms. For desert George Will provides an update on school choice victories, and the mounting losses by the opponents of educational freedom, around the country.
The blog's had a great day! I've lost my e-mail account, the blog has been down for several hours, and I've succesfully mashed up pretty much everything! If you don't get a response to any of your e-mails, you know why... They haven't actually come. They won't come either... Pretty poo, huh? Please excuse the incredibly large, melodramatic 'Red X' too.NOTE: Google just informed me that there will be a power outage on my blog server at 11AM PST too... Brilliant.
In "A Great Day in Cooperstown," veteran sports journalist Jim Reisler chronicles the painful birthing process of what has become the world's most prestigious sports memorial - the National Baseball Hall of Fame, which opened in 1939 after years of preparation.
Using an iconic photo of the Hall's original inductees — including Babe Ruth, Cy Young, Honus Wagner, and Connie Mack — Reisler delivers
