Here is a little introduction to church politics in the Presbyterian Church (USA). The so-called "Culture Wars" blaze through various church denominations. I thought I would take this time to introduce you to one of the movements in the Presbyterian Church. It has its cousins in other denominations such as the Methodist and Episcopal churches. On one hand, it is about internal denominational politics. But on the other hand, it is a larger part of a move toward theocracy in the United States. In 2001, the PCUSA General Assembly sent to its presbyteries (173 or so regional governing bodies) an overture that would not allow clergy to perform holy union services for same-sex couples. It did not pass. A year previous, a Presbyterian minister, Rev. I find the cemeteries in France really fascinating.
Naturally there are loads of military ones around the sites of past battles in the two world wars. The second world war ones up around the Normandy beaches are perhaps the most impressive in terms of the sheer scale of carnage that they represent. However, in addition to those there are many much smaller WW1 cemetries dotted around the landscape. The area of the Somme has untold numbers of these from the large Thiepval and numerous smaller versions in that area from the Ulster Tower to relatively small Australian ones.
One thing that they all have in common is that every single grave in them is still well tended for, no matter how long ago the death occured. As we were going through the Somme cemeteries last year, every one looked as though it was only filled a few weeks ago. Don’t forget that these graves are getting on for 100 years old by now too. Given the bad shape of their country's economy they have probably tried to establish themselves abroad, encountered economic and possibly social problems, and became bitter and radical. IT'S not the old toy tin car or the plastic model assembled with glue. This toy, the Playsam Streamliner, is a five-inch painted wooden car that has become as powerful a symbol of Swedish design as a Volvo or an Ant chair.The design of the Streamliner is basic, a geometric nursery rhyme of a body and wheels and nothing more. It has been designated an official Swedish design classic by the Swedish National Museum and Swedish Design Council. Now, the Fitzsu Society, a shop in Los Angeles dedicated to modernist tabletop accessories and other items for the home, has persuaded artists and designers to create variations on the Streamliner. These have been auctioned to support a charity, the World Children's Foundation.For his contribution, Michael Graves mashed up the car with his familiar teapot. The October auction, called FitzsuGrandPrix, raised about $20,000.

I had the privilege of meeting him when I was 16 and knew I'd be training with him for life. I began training with him shortly after I turned 17 and haven't ceased. I can't express how grateful I am to be among his senior students and hope to one day be a worthy practitioner of the art as he teaches it. Not only do we have a close, professional teaching relationship but I consider him to be a personal friend. He is like family to me.Bill began his training with Sifu Karl Godwin in 1982 and became head of Karl's class before long. He continued to train faithfully with Karl until he moved to Jacksonville, FL in 1989 and began teaching. While still commuting to train with Karl, Bill operated several schools in the Jacksonville area. When he moved his school to the Jacksonville Beaches area, I began training under him.
