Want grandchildren ? Marry your cousin !
Marriages between distant cousins on Iceland seem to be far more productive then ‘normal’ marriages. On average more children and grandchildren are born as a result of marriages between men and women who are (distantly) related. This became clear after a study on the matter was published in the scientific magazine Science this week. Research was done under supervision of Agnar Helgason of biotech company deCode Genetics. A study was made on all marriages on the island between 1800 and 1965. Surprisingly marriages between cousins in the third and fourth grade came out on top of the fertility scale. The researchers involved in the study suspect a biological reason is behind these figures. These cousins probably benefit from affinity within the family as

13 Things Egyptian your grandchildren will never see
mummy Originally uploaded by bunchofpants When I was a child in the 50s the greatest monster movies for children were Frankenstein, The Wolfman, Dracula, and The Mummy. The Mummy had the greatest texture with ancient curses, sacred burial tombs, enchanted spells, magic tea leaves, hieroglyphs and a love story. If you've never seen the Mummy, here it is in brief: Boris Karloff plays an Ancient Egyptian priest named Imhotep, whose mummy is accidentally brought to life by an archaeological team. He prowls Cairo looking for the reincarnated soul of his past love, the Princess Ankhesenamun who happened to be the wife of the pharaoh Tutankhamun. Whenever the Mummy appeared my brother, who was about 7 at the time, would cover his eyes with his hands in fright. Ever since, I've been in love with things Egyptian. Brazilian Woman Births Her Own Twin Grandchildren
Rosinete Palmeira Serrao, who was a surrogate mother for her 27-year-old daughter, gave birth in Brazil to her twin grandchildren. Serrao gave birth to the twin boys on Thursday by Cesarean section at the Santa Joana Hospital, according to hospital officials. Reports have said that even though the Cesarean section was performed two weeks early, the twin boys and grandmother have been discharged from the hospital on Sunday in good health. The reason for the early delivery was because Serrao was having a hard time sleeping. Her daughter, Claudia Michelle de Brito, tried unsuccessfully for four years to get pregnant, and so Serrao decided to serve as a surrogate mother. In Brazil only close relatives are able to be surrogate mothers, and since none of De Brito’s other relatives volunteered, Serrao agreed to take on the task.

      More Grandchildren Humor
Another sample of grandparent and grandchildren stories: A grandmother was observing her granddaughter, Sarah, who was drawing with her crayons. The grandmother could plainly see that the young child was hard at work. As little Sarah was working diligently, the grandmother asked her what she was drawing. Sarah replied, “I'm drawing God.” The grandmother paused, saying, “But, Sarah darling, no

A passbook account for the grandchildren
My parents were asking for a passbook account for their grandchildren as they aren’t keen on card based accounts. Almost all accounts these days are card or internet based and the initial couple that I came across weren’t great as the building societies concerned didn’t have that many branches. Finally, I settled on the National Savings Investment Account which only requires a £20 deposit to open and also pays interest gross at quite a reasonable rate. Opening it is a little peculiar as the Post Office branch doesn’t ask for any proof of ID or address and instead National Savings do the whole lot electronically. That worried me a little as I wasn’t sure that we’d turn up on their records but the books have arrived so we must do. Even stranger though is that they didn’t ask for any proof of ID from the children (normally you’re asked for a birth certificate) and one of ours was born in France so I can’t seem him appearing on any UK

      More About Grandchildren and Grandparents
Sometimes grandparents and grandchildren can add so much to our lives. Here are some precious quotes from grandchildren: A grandmother was telling her little granddaughter what her own childhood was like. "In the winter, we used to skate outside on a pond. In the summer, we had a swing made from an automobile tire. My dad, who was your great grandfather, hung it from a tree in our back yard."

Grandchildren humor is the best humor
My adorable little grandson surprised me, his grandmother, early one morning with a cup of piping hot coffee. He had brewed it himself, and he was so very proud of his creation. So, naturally, he anxiously awaited my verdict on its quality. It had to be one of the worst cups of coffee I had ever had in my life. However, I was determined not to let him know that and I forced myself to drink it

Mother's Diet during Pregnancy can affect Grandchildren (Epigenetics)
A new study by scientists at Children's Hospital Oakland Research Institute (CHORI) is the first to show that a mother's diet during pregnancy influences the health of her grandchildren by changing the behavior of a specific gene. The study was conducted using mice of an unique strain called 'viable yellow agouti' also known as A-vy in scientific terms. These mice possesss a gene that influences the color of their coats as well as their tendency to become obese and develop diabetes and cancer. The new research shows that the diet consumed by a pregnant Avy mouse affects the health of not only her pups, but also their pups - her grandchildren. The study was published in the November issue of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) and was conducted by CHORI Scientist David Martin, M.D., and Assistant Scientist Kenneth Beckman, Ph.D., in collaboration with Drs. Jennifer Cropley and Catherine Suter from the Victor Chang Heart Institute in Sydney, Australia. In their
