      Grammar and the Nomination Fight
One reason I'm really looking forward to Hillary Clinton's (likely) concession, whenever it comes, is that one of the most annoying grammar mistakes I've ever seen will recede somewhat in the public discourse. People, including major bloggers, will simply not stop talking about "the Clinton's." Look: one Clinton + one Clinton = two Clintons. No apostrophe. Even if your document editor puts a red underline underneath the word (as mine is doing right now), ignore it. It's "the Clintons." This crops up with other names too, but people really seem to love to do it with Bill and Hillary Clinton. I'd like to congratulate my fellow Seminal contributors on their mastery of this grammatical concept.

Does I.M Language Affect Grammar Of Students?
Hello to all. Hope you all remember about the survey on IM Language that I had told you about. I know that I’m a bit late in posting this; but as you know it’s better late then never! What Is IM Language? Now, what do you mean by IM Language, some of you might ask! According to me, IM language is Instant Messaging or texting language used primarily by kids using internet/mobile phones for IMing, sending e-mails and SMS etc. I am of the view that excessive usage of texting/instant messaging by children influences their grammar, spelling, etc., but I’m not opposed to it when I'm on the net. I don't always write everything out completely and use phrases like "brb", LOL etc. The FindingsI had earlier published a post 'IM Language Improves Grammar & Vocabulary!' and put a survey to know the view of my readers on this subject. According to the result of this poll, majority of the people said that NO, IM language doesn’t affect the grammar of the students. I can not ag

This Lake Forest townhouse is being offered as a short sale. It's bad enough the sellers stand to lose $135,894 assuming a sale at this price with 6% sales costs. It's not helping that the listing description is plain awful in terms of basic spelling and grammar. Here's the listing description, with grammar and spelling issues in bold: High Volted ceilings with lots of windows!Very light and bright! This is the biggest model with 2 car garage. This home is in excellent shape. It has beaitiful stone floors and wood floors. This is a Short Sale. Be the first to get the bank to accept your offer. .. .this is a steal!!! Lots of parking on this side of Boulder. Close to park, pool and school. Seller's paid $530,000 2 years ago and put upgrades in throughout! Nice wrap around yard with new fence, Lot's of nice Cabnets in Garage.I don't agree with fluffy, extraneous statements that say nothing about the house (e.g. "light and bright"), but I'll keep everything generally as it was before,

      Blogging essential: Good grammar
I never feel as much shame as when I re-read one of my posts and come across a spelling error (rare now with Firefox' built-in spell checker), grammar mistake, or, most often, style blunder (I won't give examples of other shameful things I've done so you'll just have to take my word for it when I say that it's a very high standard.). It's probably worse for me because I'm an English teacher; it's like Richard Simmons being caught with a box of Crispy Creams. => Read more!

How English Works: A Grammar Practice Book
By: Michael Swan Catherine WalterISBN: 0194314561Publisher: Oxford University Press, USA - 1997-11-06Paperback 364 Pages List Price: $19.95 (USD) Sales Rank: 223793Amazon ReviewI am very glad to see that this book is rated 5 stars here in amazon.com, for my opinion is that such book is a most perfect one for purposes of grammar practice of the English language. What really should be noticed is that, usually, the more advanced the book is, the more tiring it is for the student to read; but the previous logic does not apply to this one! I feel a great pleasure in reading it and doing its exercises mainly because of one very important caracteristic that every didatic book should embody: the abundance of visual elements, especially the little comic strips and the numerous strong sayings uttered by various famous people, which are spread profusely throughout the book. Its visually rich and coloured pages shall, most certainly, banish the usual boredom that students feel in studying grammar,

Grammar: Common Pitfalls and How to Avoid Them (Part 20: Its/It's Error)
For my last grammar series entry, I present you with my pet peeve: the its/it's error. "Its" is a possessive pronoun. "It's" is a contraction for "it is."Don't confuse it's with its. It's is a contraction for it is. Its is the possessive. If you're having problems, replace the form of its you're using with it is. If it doesn't fit, use the other form of it's.It's a smart cat that tolerates its humans.
