KY governors scholars pick McCain in mock election
Over the years I've seen hundreds of student election polls. The one thing I've learned is that the younger the child the more directly they reflect their parent's views. Trust the kids to tell you about their parents. This from PolWatcher Ryan Alessi:Republican presidential candidate John McCain edged Democrat Barack Obama among the 845 Kentucky Governors Scholars who participated in a mock electi

Foreclosure in The Governors Club in Brentwood!
This is really the first foreclosure that I have seen in the exclusive Governors Club in Brentwood, Tennessee. It was originally built by Turnberry Homes in 2004 and is their very popular Newcastle open floor plan. It is a 5 bedroom, 4.5 bathroom, 3 car, 4,819 square foot Mediterranean style house on an acre. The home features extensive hardwood floors, granite counters on every surface, a chef's

8 Governors, Paul Harris, & Doug Wilder Oh My
The Sorensen Institute’s gala honoring Senator John Warner last night in Arlington was a star packed spectacle of Virginia politics.  All of Virginia’s living governors attended: Kaine, Warner, Gilmore, Allen, Wilder, Baliles, Robb, and Holton.  Other notables I saw included Chairman Hager, Rep. Wittman, Del. Moran, Sen. Deeds, and a host of candidates seeking office.     I sat at a table provided by big time Democratic donor Suzann [...]

      2010 Governors Race Taking Shape?
The 2010 Ohio governors race is already getting set with this revelation.Former U.S. Rep. John R. Kasich says he's prepared to leave a lucrative private-sector career and run for the Republican nomination for governor in 2010.He's probably the republican's best chance of defeating Ted Strickland in 2010. Most candidates with the stature to knock off Strickland were mortally wounded in the republican massacre of 2006.It is widely expected that Democratic Gov. Ted Strickland will run for a second term, although he hasn't committed to it. If Kasich runs, he might not be the only Republican in the race. Former U.S. Sen. Mike DeWine and former U.S. Rep. Rob Portman of Cincinnati also have indicated interest in the governor's office.I can't see DeWine being a factor. I suppose Rob Portman could

      2007 Governors Races Rankings
There are only three, but they're good ones;Kentucky: Incumbent Republican Ernie Fletcher looks like he's in big trouble against Democratic former Lt. Governor Steve Beshear, who has led by double digits since he won the primary back in May. Lean DemocraticLouisiana: An open seat is the best hope for the Democrats, and even thought it's open, Rep. Bobby Jindal of Metarie is way ahead, but don't count Chalmette State Rep. Walter Boasso out just yet. If it goes to a runoff, Boasso has a shot. Not a very good one though. Lean RepublicanMississippi: Haley Barbour is too popular here, he should be on the Republican VP shortlist or even the 2012 Presidential candidate shortlist should they loose next year. The only Democrat running is John Arthur Eaves, Jr, a pro-life, anti-gay marriage Democrat who has declared; “I am a Democrat because I am a Christian.” It may play well in conservative Mississippi, but conservatives down there have no issue with Barbour. Solid Republican

New Mexico Governors Tag FOR SALE here on www.huntinglife.com
Ladies & Gentlemen, I have the story of the year for this humble little blog and website called HuntingLife.com. Several months ago Ben Nicholson was looking for some information on the Valles Caldera Wildlife Management area in New Mexico and he ran a search on google and up popped my article on how to apply for tags for the opportunity to hunt elk there. About that same time we also had a post about the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation holding a raffle for the New Mexico Governors tag for elk. Ben followed the link to the Valles Caldera and learned that he had missed the deadline and on a whim came back to HuntingLife.com and decided to buy a raffle ticket for the that RMEF raffle for the tag.HE WON!I got a comment on that post just after the raffle was finished and Ben was looking to sell the tag. New Mexico is the only state that allows you to transfer the tag if you have purchased it and/or won the tag. He asked me if he should put it up on ebay and I thought about it for two seconds

Tweaked rules after Board of Governors meeting in New York
A player may now be awarded a penalty shot if he is fouled on a clear breakaway anywhere in the neutral or attacking zones. Previously, a penalty shot was awarded only when a player on a clear breakaway was fouled on the attacking side of the centre line. For more on the tweakings, see TSN.I don't mind the above rule as much. But I would really like to see the general obstruction calls lessened. There are too many penalties now! I hate watching powerplay after powerplay. If the players would stop all the obstruction then fine. But is that ever going to happen to a degree where we don't see 6 obstruction calls per team during most games? That's already 24 minutes of power play time in one game without the trips, roughing, etc included. Half of the minutes in games are special teams. Bullshit! How about only making the call if the obstruction actually impedes the puck handler's progress? T Tags: NHL rules changes

Conspiracy between Democrat governors against Bush?
I don't believe in conspiracies, but this sounded a little fishy to me. I'll say it's just a coincidence to keep my unblemished record of non-paranoia. Anyways, three governors recently chose to take cheap shots at the president with the following poll-tested idiocies: First Ted Strickland: I remain concerned for the continued and unprecedented sacrifice our men and women in the Ohio National Guard bear in relation to the ongoing conflict in Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere," wrote Mr. Strickland. "As Governor of Ohio, I will continue to press for assurances that every Ohio Soldier is provided with the most up-to-date equipment and that every Ohio Soldier receives appropriate training. As I have expressed earlier, our Soldiers and their families deserve nothing less." He asked for a "timely" response to his request for Mr. Bush's assurances that Ohio soldiers will be provided with the most modern equipment, including individual body armor systems, M-4 rifles, and other weapons

Did Howard Dean Dictate Kansas Governors Response to Tornado ?
A Listener/Reader sent this comment to me on the blog recently:At Thursday, May 10, 2007 10:50:00 PM, Anonymous said…I was listening to the Sean Hannity show on the radio today. There are credible sources in Sen Brownback's (presidential candidate) office, who said that Howard Dean phoned our Kansas Governor at 5:30 am and told her that she couldn't "allow" this "opportunity" to pass. She was told by Dean not to put in a request for assistance from the Feds, just to play it up and wait to hear for more orders from the Dems. Sean Hannity had information that Sen. Sam Brownback knows about this information. Let's see if he tells the truth about it.The Governor ought to resign her position for enterprising on a major catastrophe and so negatively impacting on the lives of those poor folks who are without homes and have dead to bury! What she did is unconscionable. So I did some checking around to see if there was an valilidity to the story and so far I have found these articles pertain

Indonesian Governors Curb Logging to Reduce Climate Change
The governors of Indonesia's three most forested provinces have pledged to jointly reduce greenhouse gas emissions from logging and land clearing to reduce the impact of climate change. Tropical rainforests absorb the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide, the main gas responsible for global warming. The governors of Aceh, Papua and Papua Barat provinces agreed on a policy of "environmentally friendly, sustainable economic development and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from deforestation." The unprecedented pact to reduce carbon emissions was made Thursday at a roundtable meeting in Bali at the site of the upcoming United Nations climate change conference in December. Facilitated by the World Bank, the roundtable was attended by representatives of the Indonesian central government, civil society, the international community, and the private sector.

      Governors Enter Fray Over NCLB
The National Governors Association, which largely took a pass on the debate over the No Child Left Behind Act as it was being crafted six years ago, released recommendations this week for its renewal that aim to preserve the federal role in holding states accountable for student learning, while seeking greater flexibility in several key areas.Under the recommendations, which were also endorsed by the Council of Chief State School Officers and the National Association of State Boards of Education, states would get greater leeway in how they intervene in schools not meeting annual achievement targets, define highly qualified teachers, and measure the progress of English-language learners. This from Education Week.

REALTORS Fight Governors Proposal for $1.4 Billion Tax Increase
I wouldn't normally post a press release but this one has the potential to further devastate the economy here in Michigan.  Should this bill pass, it's conservatively estimated that it will cost Michigan 19,000 in the first year alone. Feetdragging by our governors - all of them!
In EdWeek (3/7/07) Michele McNeil reports that our state Governors are getting ready to position themselves to influence the status of NCLB. Does anyone else think that our governors are just a little behind the times? McNeil writes:"The nation's governors, who were noticeably absent when Congress passed the No Child Left Behind Act more than five years ago, are vowing to take a front-row seat as the law comes up for renewal this year." After five years of abdicating local control of education, our governors are getting ready to make their "big" move. McNeil writes that Gov. Christine Gregoire of Washington and Gov. Donald Carcieri of Rhode Island are urging "fellow governors to work with their chief state school officers to appoint one person from each state to coordinate policy efforts on NCLB reauthorization. Representatives from all interested states will convene in the next couple of months to nail down changes the governors would like to see."That is the "big" move? This is only

Ex-Fed Governors Predict a Rate Hike, But Not Tomorrow
Today on CNBC, the network interviewed two ex-fed governors at the same time for routine commentary ahead of tomorrow's FOMC decision on rates. The interview just ended about 2:20 PM EST. Former fed governors Alfred Broaddus (ex-Richmond) and Robert Parry (ex-San Francisco) both commented that they would expect the next rate move to be a hike rather than an ease. No specific timeframe was given and inflation and equilibrium were both noted as higher than recent trend comfort. One metric CNBC posted was that The Financial Times says 40% of fund managers expect a hike in next 6 months. This was more targeted for 2007 than 2006, and no specifics were given other than a "trend." Just yesterday PIMCO's Bill Gross, perhaps the big daddy of the bond market, was saying rate cuts would be necessary in 2007. One needs to recall that ex-Fed governors are not as widely tuned in as the markets think and they often get current predictions wrong. That isn't meant to discredit the statements
