From The UnCapitalist Journal : The Federal Reserve is pouring hundreds of billions of excess dollars into the economy to hold off an economic crash. The longer it does this, the worse the resulting inflation will be; more importantly, however, the longer it pursues this radically irresponsible policy, the worse the recession will be when a new Federal Reserve Board must crush the mone

It is amazing to see how open Brazilians are to the Gospel. God has truly prepared a great harvest here in Brazil, and we are privileged to be a part of this great work of God. We are always excited about seeing God touch and save so many people, and we are happy about how open Brazilians are to the Gospel, but at the same time we are somewhat sad. When you see such wonderful people that are very open to the Gospel, you cannot help but think about how different it is in the US. The difference is incredible. How can a nation founded by Christians and long considered a Christian nation be so closed to hearing about Jesus ? Why do so many people have hard hearts towards the things of God ? Why are many other nations and people groups in the world far more open to the Gospel ? You hear about Go

A few nights ago I had a meeting with the other leaders of the Young Adult group at my church. This is kind of a rant, but not. It's more saying the things I wanted to the other night, but never had the chance. Anyway... So far things have been going pretty positively, but we have lacked a certain level of direction to the group which has resulted in us mostly just floating along. We were spending just as much time figuring out what worked vs. what doesn't. Who have been worth wile speakers and those who weren't. One thing that one of the leaders kept bringing up was getting the speakers to give a gospel message. Since I picked the speakers I never exactly pushed the point for a few reasons. For one, when I hear someone ask for a gospel message immediately what comes to mind are the
PRIVATE CARS WERE RELATIVELY SCARCE in 1919 and horse-drawn conveyances were still common. In residential districts, electric streetlights had not yet replaced many of the old gaslights. And within the home, electricity remained largely a luxury item for the wealthy.Just ten years later things looked very different. Cars dominated the streets and most urban homes had electric lights, electric flat irons, and vacuum cleaners. In upper-middle-class houses, washing machines, refrigerators, toasters, curling irons, percolators, heating pads, and popcorn poppers were becoming commonplace. And although the first commercial radio station didn’t begin broadcasting until 1920, the American public, with an adult population of about 122 million people, bought 4,438,000 radios in the year 1929 alone

Josyp Terelya, a visionary from the Ukraine, has experienced apparitions and messages from the Mother of God in Marmora, Ontario, Canada. On Friday, September 18, 1992, Our Lady told this heroic servant of God:"...Today as never before we see the servants of Satan, all the evil spirits and antichrists, openly proclaiming their hatred of God, saying, We are rejecting God and His kingdom, because we shall govern the earth ourselves as we ourselves want. How many priests and bishops there are today who give glory to God with their lips but not with their hearts. How many are the priests that deny the Bible today, especially those sections which proclaim Jesus as the Savior and King of the world....Some governments will begin to protect homosexuality and all sorts of abominations of the devil.

Every week we have in-depth notes and bible study questions to complete which we then discuss in a small group setting. We also have a lecture on the same material. I would recommend BSF for anyone looking for a serious study of God's word. This past week I attended a seminar before our regular class about sharing the gospel. There are two ways to look at every situation. How it will affect you, and how it will affect God's kngdon. The apostle Paul was always concerned wiht how his circumstances might aid the spreading of the gospel. When he was unjustly imprisoned, he iimediately looked to see how his imprisonement might provide God's salvation to others. (Phil. 1:13; Acts 16:19-34). whe he was assailed by an angry mob, he used the opportunity to preach the gospel (Acts 22:1-21). When Paul's criminal proceedings took him before the king, his thoughts were on sharing his faith wwith the king (Acts 26:1-32). Even when Paul was shipwrecked on anisland, he used that opportunity to share the gospel there. Regardless of his circumstance, Paul's concern was how he could use his current situation to tell others of Go

What did Jesus do? Since incarnating the gospel is about being Jesus, believers have to be good followers of Jesus. They have to learn from Jesus. They have to imitate Him. To put it simply, incarnating the gospel is about doing what Jesus did.To learn what Jesus did, you have to make the Gospels our primary text (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John). Alan Hirsch observes that Christians “so easily abandon Jesus. Our religion has become Paulism. We need to get back to Jesus. Jesus will teach about mission more than anyone else.” (Missio Intensive Conference, October 7, 2006)Michael Frost sees that Christians are essentially “a group of people who have oriented their lives around Jesus.” (Missio Intensive Conference, October 7, 2006) Therefore, they must focus on following Jesus. When God became a man, He did not come “to be served, but to serve” (Matt 20:28). He came to “give His life as a ransom for many.” He took on the form of a servant. He did not allow His position and stature as Creator of the universe keep Him from humbling Himself to become human. In John 13, He embodies servanthood by washing the disciples’ dirty feet. This expression of humility is the posture that every believer needs to assume. The disciples struggled to understand this reality. They wanted positions of power and authority in His kingdom. They wanted greatness. Jesus modeled sacrificial service. “True greatness, true leadership, is found in giving yourself in service to others, not in coaxing or inducing others to serve you.”(Sanders, Spiritual Leadership, p 15). That i

WHAT IS A GOSPEL? By Rook Hawkins What is a Gospel? For the last few hundred years, New Testament scholars, particularly in Germany, have been asking themselves this very question. Are they the biographies of a miraculous savior written by those who knew him and were closest to him? If that is the case, were they redacted by later Christians to include specific dogmatic and doctrinal ideals? Or, were the Gospels written up to centuries after a historical, human Jesus, by which Christians embellished his story into fictional history? And If that is what they are, do the discrepancies between the four Gospels represent the authors own theological perspectives? If so, how would one accurately determine which perspective is that of the authors and which is the perspe
I could easily name this post "Why I Believe in a Pre-Trib Rapture". To do so, would indicate that I'm throwing my hat in the ring of debate. I have largely avoided speaking on the topic of End-Time events simply because of raging debate around it. It is fruitless, and promotes dissension among those who claim to love the same God. We spend so much time nit-picking and attacking, that debate seems to have evolved into a debate for debating sake. Truth gets lost in our own (as opposed to God's) translation. With that said, I'm taking up a seemingly lonely side, truth.Since the teaching of Saint Paul, End Time events seem to have somehow been separated from it's original owner, Faith. Today we view biblical subjects in categories, in where we separate, and place boundaries. This has caused d

the idea that the american church "sells" a gospel is not that hard to grasp, because it spends millions on trying to make the gospel message popular. well, actually they spend billions, not millions. in my opinion, the american church spends more on trying to get people to "swallow" a palatable gospel message, that it has lost connect with what the gospel message is all about. it has spent
The new book by Marcus Borg and John Dominic Crossan, The First Christmas, is a helpful one for understanding the infancy stories in Matthew and Luke.Borg and Crossan refer to them as parables about Jesus. Jesus told parables. We know that when we read or hear the parable of the Good Samaritan, for instance, that the point is not whether or not there was a Samaritan who actually helped some guy in a ditch. We know it is a story and to debate its historicity would miss the point. Instead we focus on what the story means. Borg and Crossan suggest that the infancy narratives ought to be treated in the same way. They are parables about Jesus, not accounts of his actual birth. We miss the point by debating their historicity. The important question is "What do these parables of his birth mean?" "What do they say about Jesus and the world in which he participated?" Fundamentalists get hung up that somehow the gospels would not be credible if these stories were not true hist
Gospel for Asia is a ministry started by K.P. Yohannan. In each aspect of Gospel for Asia's ministry, the primary aim is to plant churches among the unreached — those who have never heard the Gospel. Gospel for Asia trains and sends native missionaries because they have proven extremely effective. They are already familiar with the language and culture, and they live at the level of the people they serve, thus removing many social barriers. We have known about this ministry for several years and even were a sponsor for a time. You can sponsor one of these missionaries for $30 a month and 100% of that money actually goes to the missionary and his family.Gospel for Asia offers a free book, Revolution in World Missions, that will change your life. It brings conviction and gives you a new vision for missions. In this exciting and fast moving narrative, K.P. Yohannan shares how God brought him from his remote Indian village to become the founder of Gospel For Asia. This book will
It seems there was a too-fast translation of that famous Gospel of Judas last year. Here's a different take on the document in an Op-Ed by a scripture scholar in the New York Times.

Gospel Truth By APRIL D. DECONICKHouston
AMID much publicity last year, the National Geographic Society announced that a lost 3rd-century religious text had been found, the Gospel of Judas Iscariot. The shocker: Judas didn’t betray Jesus. Instead, Jesus asked Judas, his most trusted and beloved disciple, to hand him over to be killed. Judas’s reward? Ascent to heaven and exaltation above the other disciples.
It was a great story. Unfortunately, after re-translating the society’s transcription of the Coptic text, I have found that the actual meaning is vastly different. While National Geographic’s translation supported the provocative interpretation of Judas as a hero, a more careful reading makes clear that Judas is not only no hero, he is a demon.

I thought I would spin this topic off from the relevance thread since it seems to have enough steam to run on its own. The concept/question about the power of the Spirit and the working of miracles that accompanied the spreading of the gospel came up. I’m currently teaching through Acts so this is a [...]
It hasn’t be very long since James Yorkston’s ‘The Year Of The Leopard’ saw its release, yet here comes another full length from the seasoned singer/songwriter. Of course, between albums Yorkston underwent the remix treatment at the hands of Kode9 (among others) for the “Woozy With Cider” single, but ‘Roaring The Gospel’ finds him back in more familiar waters, turning out the kind of lavish arrangements not ordinarily associated with an artist so steeped in the traditions of folk. It’s often the more pared-down recordings that yield the most effective results however, with tracks like “Seven Streams” (with its ukulele and woodwind arrangement) are understated just enough to not detract from Yorkston’s central vocal performance. Tim Buckley’s “Song To The Siren” gets covered halfway through the album, with a haunting fiddle drone sharing the focus alongside Yorkston’s voice. Another high poin
If you didn’t know, I’m writing this book. Just a fun little project, a fiction piece, an attempt to articulate in a creative form my feelings on how it looks like to live out the faith, following the Gospel.
I’m realizing following the Gospel is dangerous. I’m also realizing that following the Gospel is so obvious. There are some things Jesus says that are confusing and quite stuck in the cultural context, however most of what he said is pretty plain. In the book I’ve set up the characters in a society that has no connection to our current society and it’s understanding of the Bible, Jesus, Christianity or organized religion in general.
As I write, I find myself having two very clear feelings:
1. My first reaction is to explain why I think the words of Jesus should be followed in the way that I suggest in my story. The thing is that I’m reacting to our current religion, where we say we follow Jesus, but aren’t really following a lot of w
