Search Locally Without Typing with New Google Mobile Tool [Cell Phones] - SendMeRSS
Search Locally Without Typing with New Google Mobile Tool [Cell Phones] Search for local businesses in your area without resorting to your clunky mobile keyboard with the new, quietly unleashed Google Mobile feature found at google.com/m/lcb. When you navigate to the "lcb" page (local businesses?), Google Mobile identifies what city you're in (or tries to—my test had me in either Columbus, OH [wrong] or Los Angeles [right!]), so all you have to do is click through the business categories to narrow down exactly what you're looking for. As the ZDNet post points out, the feature would be a lot more useful if it pinpointed your location within the city à la Google Maps on the iPhone, but either way it could come in really handy if you aren't keen on using your unfriendly mobi

      Google Mobile: Portable Local Search
As Matt reported on 31 Jan 2008, Google released enhanced mobile search in the UK. Since the official release of the application on February 21 I've been playing with the Symbian S60 incarnation on a Nokia n95 8gb. Here's what I found: The claim by Robert Hamilton (Google Mobile's Product Manager) that using the ‘phone app, rather than opening a web browser, reduces the initial search time by 40% is bang on- comparably it is incredibly fast. Installing it is a doddle. From your ‘phone go to Google Mobile and download it. Once installed there's a default option to use a screen shortcut: ...but I preferred to disable it and place a shortcut in the active standby apps toolbar (I found that the screen shortcut can get in the way if you've a long list of reminders):

      Google Mobile Blog
Google started an official blog to discuss all of their mobile applications and see demos of what they look like. This is great since you use to have to keep on checking on your own to see when they release a new version of one of their mobile applications and typically there wasn't a lot of information of what is new in the build. One good post you can see there already is about the Google Mobile Updater for BlackBerry which makes it simple to stay informed and up-to-date when there are new versions or products for your BlackBerry.

Google mobile now can track your location without GPS
Google has released version 2.0 of 'Google Maps for mobile', its innovative mobile mapping and local search application. My Location (beta) calculates a user's location by measuring the distance of the phone from nearby base stations. Unfortunately, it isn't as precise as using GPS, but it drains less battery life. Google is hoping to get within one-quarter to three miles of a user's location.Google stated that they “use various algorithms to approximate your location relative to the cells nearest you. The accuracy of this information depends on how big an individual cell is. Thus, areas with a denser concentration of mobile towers allow for a more accurate My Location reading. Additionally, as our database of cell locations continues to improve, so too does the accuracy and coverage of the My Location feature.”My Location" technology is claimed to be faster than GPS; besides being able to cover the inside of buildings unlike GPS; and results in slower drainage of batteries vi

Google Mobile & Wireless Services Surged in May & June
Normally in the summer season there is a reduction in Internet activity, however, Google has seen a 35 jump in their mobile and wireless services (maps, e-mail and search) between May and June.  At a Web marketing conference in Silicon Valley, Marissa Mayer, Google's vice president of search products, stated that Google is "seeing and more mobile activity".  One reason for the increased mobile Web activity is due to the recently launched Apple iPhone which is heavily integrated into the Internet.  The Apple iPhone caused a 40 to 50 percent increase in use of Google Maps which is one of the numerous Internet applications on the smartphone. The surge in Google mobile traffic is a reverse to previous years of both mobile and computer Internet activity decreasing during these months when people normally go on vacation.

Google Mobile Phone - Reality or Myth
Some hints if its ture or not. Google has announced that it may bid for wireless-spectrum licenses at a coming government auction. The Federal Communications Commission on Tuesday approved rules addressing some of Google’s concerns about the sale.  If it owned spectrum, Google might turn into a phone operator itself. Unlike Apple, whose cellphone is available exclusively through AT&T, Google is hoping that multiple operators will offer its phone. Google has invested hundreds of millions of dollars in the cellphone project, say people who have been briefed on it. It has developed prototype handsets, made overtures to operators such as T-Mobile USA and Verizon Wireless, and talked over technical specifications with phone manufacturers. It hopes multiple manufacturers will make devices based on its specs and multiple carriers will offer them. The long-rumored Google phones are still in the planning stages, and wouldn’t be available to consumers until next year at the earli

      Google mobile.Are you ready?
Google is developing its own mobile phone, according to industry insiders, while a Google official in Spain last week acknowledged that the company is “investigating” in such a project. Google isn’t commenting directly on leaks from Europe and US which describe Google Phone as a low cost, Internet connected phone with a color, wide-screen design. Newspapers and blog reports in recent months have Google shopping its phone design to potential mobile phone manufacturing partners in Asia. “Mobile is an important area for Google,” Google spokesmen Erin Fors said. “We remain focused on creating applications and establishing and growing partnerships with industry leaders to develop innovative services for users worldwide. However, we have nothing further to announce”
