Google's refuting the WSJ's earlier claims that Android is delayed with its own statement. We are on schedule and we're very excited to see the momentum continuing to build behind the Android platform among carriers, manufacturers, developers and consumers. Here's what we make of this. The WSJ pointed the finger at T-Mobile as the reason why Google's development is being delayed for Sprint and V
At the recent Google I/O Conference in Northern California, the search giant said that speed matters. Not in so many words, mind you. But, what Vice President of Search Products Marissa Mayer did say was that users were asked whether they would like 10 or 30 results per page and they chose 30.
But, when the [...]
A $1 billion lawsuit against YouTube is threatening people’s exchange of information on the internet, Google Inc. said. The claim was made as a reaction to Viacom Inc., who says YouTube was responsible for “an explosion of copyright infringement.” And YouTube owes them the money for illegally showing material from MTV, Comedy Central and other [...]
Google isn’t hosting malware anymore, but according to a tool they provide that lets you check up on any domain, their own google.com at one point was indeed hosting malware (software that is installed on a users machine without their consent).
Philipp Lenssen at Google Blogoscoped noticed today that Google announced that it will be shuttering its Hello photo sharing and chat application next week. Hello was an instant messenger-like desktop photo sharing application that made it easy to send photos to friends via an encrypted connection. The Hello.com web page has been replaced by a shut down notice and the service will cease to work on May 15th. "We originally embarked on a mission to make photo sharing easier and more fun with Hello. We plan to keep carrying that torch in new projects to come," wrote the Hello team on their now defunct web site. Hello, which was part of Google's 2004 acquisition of Picasa, seems to have been neglected in recent years. According to Compete, Hello's traffic has fallen by over 50% yea
I was meaning to write a post last week about the newly launched Ecocho.com as I had another of those “Why didn’t I think of that?” moments. Ecocho combine Google and Yahoo sponsored search listings, and allows people to search and feel good about the environment. Everytime once of their searchers clicked on a sponsored [...]
Look closely at the photo of Google’s booth at the Web 2.0 conference, because there is apparently something there that Google didn’t want photographed. Do you see it?
Yeah, me either. Looks like a normal, non-confidential type booth to me. Apparently they were demoing Adwords.
But both Scott Beale and Jeremy Johnstone were told that photos [...]
Microsoft has been sniffing around Yahoo in an attempt to take over the search engine company. Alongside News Corporation, Microsoft is keen to enter this market. Google thinks otherwise and feels it best to keep Microsoft out of this arena, so has decided to team up with Yahoo on advertisement sharing. The two search engine giants have announced a two-week experiment that will see them share advertising space. Google will be able to place ads alongside 3% of search results on Yahoo's website. Whilst in no way implying a merger, it is a strategic alliance where the emphasis is more on strategy that alliance. It will, at least, frustrate Microsoft's overtures. My concern is that such a takeover will do no good to the consumer. Microsoft already holds a virtual monopoly in computer software. I
Google like so many other search engines have seen an increase in internet activity on mobile devices. However Google have said that the increase is down to them, as they have introduced faster web services on a selection of cell phones. With this news it seems as if internet on cell phones becoming more popular.

Not in so many words, mind you, but that’s the the sentiment Google’s group manager of mobile platforms Rich Miner floated across the conference table when he said, “there’s a much larger potential market on Android than for the iPhone.” No doubt there is, what with muscle like LG, Motorola, HTC and Samsung all [...]
Google released a white paper on Thursday about trends in electronic communications systems at corporations and found, to no surprise, that spam is a huge problem and getting worse.
While overall e-mail message volume per user grew 47 percent, the spam volume was up 57 percent in 2007 to record levels, according to data from Google’s [...]
One day, Google believes, software developers will love its "non-existent" Android handset just as much as they love the iPhone - and maybe more. Speaking this morning at eComm, a conference dedicated to "emerging communications," Google mobile platforms guru Rich Miner acknowledged that for the moment, Apple may have an advantage. After all, Steve Jobs and company have actually shipped a piece of hardware, while the first Android handset won't arrive until "the second half of this year." But Miner also told the crowd that Stevo hasn't treated developers as well as they deserve. More »

Apparently, Google doesn’t have a sense of humor when it comes to puns related to its YouTube video site.
The company is preparing to challenge the use of the name “JewTube” for a Jewish-related video site on trademark grounds, according to a filing with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, which was reported on by WebProNews.

This one is BIG! I don't know how long it's been out there for but Google has a little know program that lives on lots and lots of computers worldwide. It is their update system called Google Updates that updates and/or installs Google components. Now there is also something called Google Pack that is accessible and downloadable from Googles update servers. So big deal - woo hoo! another updater app. Who Cares? How about Microsoft for one? As they wipe the spittle out of their eyes they have to have noticed that you can now download and update all of StarOffice components! That's right for the low low price of ABSOLUTELY free. For those of you that don't know StarOffice is SUNS answer to Microsoft Office. But it is open source and normally costs 70 buckaroos to download directly from SUN.Now lets think about this. You buy a new DELL desktop with a crappy trial version of office on it that expires after a month or so and you also have this fancy smancy google update program that can g
I took this screen shot just in case, but for the moment I am the world’s smartest man according to Google, even beating out Stephen Hawking and an autistic savant with an IQ over 210. If you missed my Google experiment and don’t have a clue what this is about, click here.

web server distribution across malicious serversResearchers at Google’s new anti-malware team found that Microsoft’s IIS server software was being used to launch drive-by malware downloads more than any other server type. The statistics come from a Google examination of 70,000 domains that have been either distributing malware or have been responsible for hosting browser exploits. Compared to their sample of servers across the Internet, Microsoft IIS features twice as often (49% vs. 23%) as a malware distributing server. Read the full Google Security Team report. >>
With the broadcast and cable networks turning their backs on YouTube, Google CEO Eric Schmidt promised that the video site's much-anticipated copyright filtering tools are "going to roll out very soon" and they're "one of the company's highest priorities" YouTube's biggest mistake was promising the technology — which would identify copyrighted video by unique "fingerprints" — would roll out at the first of the year. Since then, Viacom has pulled all its clips, CBS' deal is "unraveling" and NBCU's lawyers have told the site to remove all its video.
Built-in disk drive diagnostics only predict about half the drive failures that occur, Google said after studying thousands of drives.Google research has shown that built-in disk drive diagnostics only predict about half the drive failures that occur. Modern disk drives have a built-in self-test and diagnostic facility termed Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology--SMART. The drive firmware monitors a range of drive parameters, things like the number of seek errors and the disk spin-up time. If these parameters degrade over time it may indicate the unit is heading for a breakdown. With advance warning of an impending disk failure you will have a chance to move files and/or replace the unit before you lose any data. Google's study looked at more than one hundred thousand disk drives which were a combination of serial and parallel ATA consumer-grade hard disk drives, ranging in speed from 5400 to 7200 rpm, and in size from 80 to 400 GB. The observed range of annualized fa
