Despite all the developments in the native third-party space, let's not let web apps fall by the wayside. Google sure isn't: the folks in Mountain View have revamped several of their web services to be decidedly friendlier in Safari on the iPhone and iPod touch alike.

I’m sure the Google Calendar Dashboard Widget was big news earlier this year, and somehow I missed it until now. But that got me thinking - maybe a couple of other people missed it as well.
Exactly as its name implies, it’s a widget you can install to your dashboard that displays the next x days, for any of your Google Calendars.
Just paste the XML URL’s for your Google Calendars into the configuration section of the widget.
When you click any of the events in the widget, your default browser will open a new window (or tab) and load that calendar event.

So here’s my preferred backup method for Google Calendar:
In your computer, create a Windows folder that will be used in order to store the backup of your Google calendar.
Open Google Calendar.
From the left side panel, Click Manage Calendars.
Navigate to the Calendar folder.
Double Click on your calendar.
From the Private Address section, click on the button named ICAL.
Your calendar meetings will be exported into an *.ics file. The file can be open using a standard email client like Microsoft Outlook.
Save the *.ics file that Google Calendar generated to the folder you created in step 1.

I'm still using Google Calendar and it's SMS reminder facility and so far ... I love it ! I get a daily email and SMS of my agenda for the day. No more missed birthdays, anniversaries or such like. It's actually working for me. It has actually put me back in touch with my appointments. No longer are they distant, scribed manually onto a desk calendar (actually they still are but that's a throw back to the past), but now they adorn the fabtastic Google Calendar. The thing I've discovered is that the google.com version of the Calendar applet on the personalised homepage is far superior to the one found on the google.co.uk and yet ... isn't it actually the same applet? The days are not highlighted on the UK one - they are on the .COM version, where I also get Quick Add, Create Event and Show Agenda. The .co.uk version is surprising sparse. Today I was working on making a Google calendar to list my vacations and events in Las Vegas. The Google button for the calendar is the link for it to open. You may have to be signed in to Google for this to open. I have been working with this. It seems Google is still not ready for everybody to use this. It is not a finished product.
