      Good Times
My brother-in-law and I once discussed the idea of a newspaper in which no bad news would be printed. A couple of days ago, The New York Times issued such a paper, a stunt initiated by The Yes Men. From the media release: Early this morning, commuters nationwide were delighted to find out that while they were sleeping, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan had come to an end. If, that is, they

Habana + Mojitos = Good Times
Habana is located at The Lab in Costa Mesa (California), right off Bristol Street. At first, we got a bit confused because we kept seeing The Lab’s sign next to Habana’s sign. Well as it turns out, The Lab is the name of the shopping center where Habana is located! Hah! It sure fooled me! [...]

I have no idea how this happens...but it does.It may have been because this is what I wore to church last week, and that little hole is what happened BEFORE Sunday school even started.

Led Zeppelin lets the 'Good Times' roll
After that performance, Led Zeppelin really must go on tour. The reunited rock 'n' roll legends were superb Monday in their first full concert in nearly three decades, mixing in classics like "Stairway to Heaven" and "Black Dog" with the thumping "Kashmir" and the hard-rocking "Dazed and Confused." The band's three surviving members — singer Robert Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page and bassist-keyboardist John Paul Jones — were joined by the late John Bonham's son Jason on drums. And it was the newest member of the band that was given the honor of kicking off the sold-out benefit show, pounding out the beat before the others joined in on a near-perfect "Good Times Bad Times." After the lights went down at the O2 Arena, newsreel footage of the band arriving in Tampa, Fla., for a 1973 performance was projected onstage. Then Bonham jumped in, soon to be joined by the rest. They followed that with "Ramble On," and with it destroyed all rumors that the 59-year-old Plant could no longer re

My nephews are almost done with school, and I can’t believe how big they have gotten. I miss having them around so much. Its amazing to see how much they change in one year. Makes me wonder about myself Whilst still sitting chatting about the table with my sister, my two nephews and my parents, we started with really weird conversations. One was about silicon implants and how they must look when you’ve aged. Now this isn’t something that we would normally discuss. We have our limits, but last night, we just couldn’t stop laughing at the thought of perky breasts in an old saggy body. Maybe even perky breasts hanging somewhere between an old ladies chest and stomach. ROFL. Maybe they adjust everything again, after some sagging took place - who knows. And no matter ho

Being 2 minutes into your day of babysitting and finding yourself up to your elbows in a poopy diaper with a baby screaming at you in the background and a kind of urgent sounding message being left on your answering machine. You know what's even more fun than all that? Listening to that message (after you've gotten the kids cleaned up and calmed down) and hearing the voice of the school nurse telling you to come and take your kid into the ER because they got their head cut open during a freak accident on the playground.Thank goodness for mothers. I called mine up, she came over to watch the babies and I drove to the school to get Joseph. He had a small cut on his head that just wouldn't stop bleeding. I mad scramble to turn the sound down because I have people around me asleep. A little consideration for the little people, please. Because I am a bitch and no one who knows me can deny that I am, I leave a comment about what a horrible experience that was. I figure maybe the webmaster will take into account how unfriendly her forced music is to a visitor and will rethink having it autostart and maybe start by the press of a button if the visitor wishes to hear whatever crappy music kids are listening to today. Obviously not. I get this in my email box today from Aja@junkyardflux.com: Sorry human, but that’s not my problem. It’s my website, I do what I want with it. Don’t like it… d

Shirley & Lee - Let The Good Times Roll (1957)
Shirley Goodman and Leonard Lee, born just ten days apart in 1936, scored three massive R&B hits before either one of them were both 20 years old: "Feel So Good," "Let the Good Times Roll," and "I Feel Good" were all written by the talented young couple. They had one trait in common among their recordings; this New Orleans-based duo almost never sang in harmony, let alone together at all. Their contrasting male-female duet style was later influential on early ska and reggae productions from Jamaica. Shirley & Lee recorded extensively for Eddie Messner and Leo Messner's L.A.-based Aladdin label. The Messners -- along with former NBC radio exec. Lew Chudd's Imperial Records and Art Rupe's Specialty -- seemed to have a knack for signing talent straight out of the Crescent City. Shirley & Lee's debut single, "I'm Gone," was written and produced by Dave Bartholomew, Imperial's writer/arranger/producer/A&R man and a major contributor to New Orleans-style R&B. (It was Bartholomew's pro
