By Dr Randy WysongAt age seven months in the womb, humans begin language coordination in response to what they hear through the mother’s belly wall. Some 52 muscles learn to respond to the various phonemes (a basic language sound like 'b' in boy and 'm' in man) of the language surrounding that belly. There are also studies showing that the emotional state of the parent imprints as do things like

We like the folks over at ECOS. They do good things for the earth and for Sacramento.

In the late nineties, David Bailey ran a skateboard store in his hometown of Sheffield, England. Drawing on the artistic ethos of skateboard culture, David hand drew and distributed fanzines for the store, an activity that would naturally lead him into the word of design and eventually to found his own direction and design firm, Kiosk. We caught up with David Bailey to discuss work ethic, collabo

Why do good people suffer?
By Sebastian Campbell, For The Guardian:
Nassau, Bahamas -
Life can be painful! No one is exempt from pain!
The question of good people suffering is a frustrating one to confront. We believe in a good and loving God — why does he allow suffering?
Shouldn't the world be a loving paradise? All around us we see suffering. School grounds have become battle grounds. Homicide has escalated to unacceptable levels. Our children are guilty of serious crimes, even murder. The drug trade goes unabated. Alcoholism knows no bounds. The divorce rate has blown the lid of acceptability. Sexual favors for advancement is common place. Then there is sickness and the difficult diagnosis of the incurable or debilitating diseases.
The question screams from our souls: Why?
So Gary Vaynerchuk at WineLibrary is at it again, enthusiastically making up holidays as he fancies. He’s come up with April 3rd as Good People Day, a day to thank those that help you, inspire you, etc. He explains it better than I, so here:
So I’m left to wondering who I should thank. [...]
An internet celebrity Gary Vaynerchuk announced today, April 3rd, the "Good People Day". A day to celebrate the Good People in all of our internet networks, and virtual realities. While I love the idea and I want to raise a toast of wine (in Gary's honor, he is a wine expert after all) to you, it is just impossible task for me to start naming "good people". There are just too many to name for. And evidently I would forget someone important, and while meaning well, I would just hurt someone's feelings. Hopefully you understand, why I celebrate the Good People Day by not mentioning any good people. Don't take it personally, I don't buy a Valentine's Day gift even to my husband. And on Mother's Day I'm just fine that only gift I get is a sweet kiss. See, I'm sort of against all of those days.
Gary Vaynerchuk asked us all to make today Good People Day, which is a wonderful idea. It’s not naive to decide to think about what we appreciate in others, and it isn’t unfair to turn our eyes away from the mainstream media’s flow of death and destruction. Sometimes we should talk about good news, sometimes [...]
The other day I was taking care of a woman in preterm labor. She was Nigerian and the only person who came to see her was a sweet middle-aged Hispanic woman. My patient was 33 wks -- and by the time I got report on her it was pretty much a given that we weren't going to be able to stop her from delivering some time during my shift. She was scared, had apparently left all her family behind in Nigeria, and just had this one Hispanic friend. Now, I live in a very diverse community. We have a large Hispanic population, large Asian population, and a significant number of Nigerian (and other African) immigrants, Bosnians, and (since we are here in the shallow south) a fair number of hillbillies. Some of these communities are old enough, and well established enough, that they are starting t
I have been thinking a lot about the California firestorms (who isn't?). For me, it's a disaster beyond imagination. Looking at the photos on the news, it reminds me of hell - hot, burning, miserable. Photo is from this flicker site.I was very tired last night, but I wasn't going to complain. As I sat on our couch feeling exhausted, I can''t help but think of the many firefighters in California who are extremely exhausted at this time.My brother R and his family live in the LA area. Thankfully, they are safe. After I talked to him on the phone, I thank God that they are safe. Then a thought crossed my mind. How about those who's house were reduced to ashes? I wonder how many "good" people are affected by these? The answer is thousands ... thousands of them. So, "when bad thing happen to good people", how do we react? I Googled that phrase and found some articles written on it. The most famous one is that written by Harold Kushner with the same title "When Bad Things Happen to
Anna started a new school year off in a new school due to rezoning, and though this school is only 2 years old and is very nice (WITH air conditioning, I might add) I had my doubts. You see, not to sound like a snob but this school is on "the wrong side of the tracks". This means a rougher 'hood and rougher kids. I was a bit worried that Anna might not know how to interact with kids that have to fend for themselves a lot, and I was worried that the tougher kids might take advantage of Anna's lack of "street smarts".It's been a week and so far she loves it. She loves her teacher and the kids in her class, and come to find out that this school gets the best of the best as far as teachers in the district due to the need for teachers with the abilities to deal with the type of situations that might arise in this type of neighborhood.Anna was already doing really well in kindergarten with her reading, and though I had some slight worries that she would forget what she had learned over t

Friends,104 days has passed since I started this blog, and my purpose was not public welfare... [ although by spreading knowledge I feel I m doing some goodwork ] Its hard to speak truth but I started this blog to earn money. Actually I m doing M.B.A. I got a scholarship because of my performance and past record. But MBA is an expensive course and I had to take an Educational Loan.
I literally just finished reading a news story about how mortgage defaults are up and the housing market is soft, leading to a lot of homes being auctioned off, and people that can't relocate due to their current homes not selling and companies not paying for relocation like they used to. All this of course leads to other problems like trying to get a new car when you have bad credit or or no credit, or even trying to buy a vehicle after a repossession or bankruptcy. It's something no one wants to go through, but if you have to, there are fast, secure, online applications processes for loans specifically designed with convenience and privacy in mind. Bad Credit Auto Loans for New and Used Cars ensures the experience will be trouble free. When bad things happen to good people it's good know options are out there.
let me post this link to a new spinoff website by Marshall Brain: God Is Imaginary. Why do bad things happen to good people?"This is certainly one of the most profound metaphysical questions of all time. In fact, how a person answer might say more about their metaphysical views then any other single question could (not to mention the me v. the universe idea and it's importance to personality psychology). For most metaphysical schools of thought the answer in the cynical cliché that 'no good deed goes unpunished'. The implication here is that good deeds carry punishments rather than rewards. Thus, one could say that doing good and being a good person is it's own reward (if there is to be one at all). Taken further, one has to ask one's self if being a good person in the expectation of some reward is truly being good morally or just good strategically. It is, in fact, an essential concept within most spiritual groups throughout history that one might deny one's self of earthly joys
I know it's probably fake, but it's something you wouldn't be surprised to see in the state of Connecticut, especially if you're crossing out of Massachusetts.Still, it's quite a burden for the people of Connecticut to bear...not to mention being the home state of Laura Ingraham, Lewis "Scooter" Libby, and Ann Coulter. (Well Coulter was born in New York, so we'll take the blame for that.)I mean geez...We should be apologizing to Connecticut. You know what? You're forgiven. Besides, Connecticut is home to the closest Dairy Queen to my house...it's amazing what one Brownie Earthquake will forgive.
Ann Batko (The Career Press) "Many reference books on grammar and usage address thousands of topics, some of them so obscure that they never come up in daily life. But this book is a more focused program that will help you make the most of your time. Rather than cover every possible problem, two criteria were used to decide whether or not to include an error: 1. Is the error one that will suggest
