John Daly has long been one of the most talented players on the PGA tour. His accomplishments include being named Rookie of the Year in 1991, winner of the coveted PGA Championship in 1991, and he became the British Open Champion in 1995-his second “Major” title of his career. Along the way John has won [...]

We all know that fanatical golfers are a different breed from your 'garden variety', 'run-of-the-mill' version.
They are obsessed with this sport, and take their devotion to it to an entirely different level. Which usually means a huge investment of time for both playing and watching the game.
Which also means little spare time for
An 80-year old Italian man goes to the doctor for a check-up. The doctor is amazed at what good shape the guy is in and asks, "How do you stay in such great physical condition?" I'm Italian and I am a golfer," says the old guy," and that's why I'm in such good shape." I'm up well before daylight and out golfing up and down the fairways." "Have a glass of vino, and all is well." "Well," says th
It's a rare situation when a blogger has the opportunity to talk about a family member's athletic achievements in their posts. Mama McNabb immediately comes to mind as one example, although her comments probably get just a little more coverage than mine. But today, I bring you a new story on my "Worst Avid Golfer" father, published on none other than ESPN.com.It's written by ESPN.com golf editor Jason Sobel, who gets the golf audience up-to-date on what a bad amateur golfer from western PA plans to be doing when The Players' Championship is played this weekend, for those who care. But seriously, it's a nice little retrospective on that fateful day in the '80s and how painful it truly was to witness. This is one of those stories that would've been tailor-made for blogs had it happened today,

It's one of the most prized, and hardest shots in golf: a hole in one, or an ace. Imagine if someone did it not once, but twice on consecutive holes. For Ted Kemp, that's exactly what happened to him.At the Muscatine Municipal Golf Course in Iowa, Kemp scored back-to-back holes in one, both par 3 holes, with one 130 yards and the other 182 yards. Kemp used a pitching wedge for the 130 yard hole, and an 8-iron for the 182 yard hole.Golf Digest did a study in 2000, and concluded that the odds of getting two holes in one in the same round is about 67 million to one. As for Kemp, he finished his day with a score of 78, citing the two holes in one as "pretty unreal." Source: Yahoo
A golfer tees up his ball on the first tee, took a mighty swing and hit his ball into a clump of trees. He found his ball and saw an opening between two trees he thought he could hit through.Taking out his 3-wood, he took another mighty swing; the ball hit a tree, bounced back, hit him in the forehead and killed him.As he approached the gates of Heaven, St. Peter saw him coming and asked, "Are you a good golfer", to which the man replied: "Got here in two, didn't I?"
It was the great “Hammerin’” Hank Aaron who started the recent glorification of Tiger Woods. He called Tiger “The most dominating athlete in sports history,” and other sports columnists, reporters and bar commentators have now taken the bait and asked if he is the most dominant athlete ever, and in some cases, the greatest athlete ever. There is no question that he is the most dominant golfer right now – and probably will be the greatest player in the history of that sport once he is finished. At just 32 he has won 13 major championships, has 63 PGA tour victories and has won all four majors in a row (though not in the same year). When he is done, the records he will set may stand for centuries. However, comparing his accomplishments to dominant athletes in other sports is

This story reminded me of Adam Sandler in "Happy Gilmore"VENICE, Florida (AP) -- A man who lost his ball in a golf course pond nearly lost a limb when a nearly 11-foot alligator latched on to his arm and pulled him in the water, authorities said.
Bruce Burger, 50, was trying to retrieve his ball Monday from a pond on the sixth hole at the Lake Venice Golf Club.
The alligator latched on to Burger's right forearm and pulled him in the pond, said Gary Morse, a spokesman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Burger used his left arm to beat the reptile until it freed him.
"I saw him reach down to get his ball and he yelled" for help, said Janet Pallo, who was playing the fifth hole and ran over to drive the man to the clubhouse.
Burger, from Lenoir City, Tennessee, was taken to a hospital but was not seriously injured, Morse said Tuesday.

The LPGA is really picking up steam with me these days. When you can boast of players like the aforementioned Suzann Pettersen, Paula Creamer, Natalie Gulbis, plus 18-year-old Morgan Pressel and a well-toned Annika Sorenstam, you've really got something good going.Yesterday, Pettersen shot a 67 in the final round of the McDonald's LPGA Championship and won her first Major. It was her second Tour title (two more than $20 million you-know-who).Suzann is a five-time Norwegian Amateur Champion and won the British Girls Championship in 1999, so this is no fluke win.I may actually have to watch an LPGA event soon. The chance to see all these beauties on the course, plus adding in the always-looming Michelle Wie mental breakdown, makes this almost must-see-TV.

==========Role reversalAn escaped convict broke into a house and tied up a young couple who had been sleeping in the bedroom. As soon as he had a chance, the husband turned to his voluptuous young wife, bound up on the bed in a skimpy nightgown, and whispered,"Honey, this guy hasn't seen a woman in years. Just cooperate with anything he wants. If he wants to have sex with you, just go along with it and pretend you like it. Our lives depend on it.""Dear," the wife said, spitting out her gag, "I'm so relieved you feel that way, because he just told me he thinks you have a really nice ass."

With seven PGA wins to his credit Canada's Mike Weir is recognized as one of the better golfers to ever come out of the Great White North. He's also trying to build a name for himself as a winemaker.
The next step in the process for the Mike Weir Estate Winery is the release of its inaugural icewine during the Niagara Icewine Festival (www.niagaraicewinefestival.com) taking place throughout the region from Jan. 19-28. The Weir 2005 Vidal Icewine, a sweet and intensely flavored dessert wine, will be sampled at events during the festival.
Weir has partnered with NiagaraÂs Creekside Estate Winery to a line of premium wines, with proceeds going to The Mike Weir Foundation, which supports various charities in Canada.
It's day one of the Nedbank Golf Challenge. I have just come back from the 2nd fairway on the Gary Player Country Club. Water bottle in hand, I strode out to the 1st tee and enjoyed the drive of Colin Montgomerie, who put it a little right. Not the greatest start for the big Scot. One of the cool things about being in the press corps is being given an "inside the ropes" armband. It allows be to get so close to the golfers that I could actually reach out and touch them.Ernie and Charl walked past a little later and were forced to hit thier little white balls onto the 1st green and i waled with them to that green. Charl put his 15 foot putt in the hole for a birdie but has since dropped back down to even par through 5 holes. The heat is going to be tough today with a breeze to cool things off. But if you have ever played the Country Club, you will know that there are spots where the wind will never reach. The wind WILL pick up later and should keep the scores under control. At time of wri

Says Bregman, "Coming from an amateur background - where you only win trophies - turning professional is very exciting. It's really great to earn playing privileges. It means everything starts now. "The greatest liar in the world is the golfer how claims he plays the game for merely exercise" Tommy BoltI am doubly cursed as a golfer and a Brit through my almost pathological fascination with the weather in the UK. Nearly every day I am looking; will I get to play at the weekend? The computer says NO! Well Saturday morning dawned, well got a little lighter, and it was not looking good. Ever the optimist of I went to the course; on arrival the rain had stopped, well almost, and after a brief check of sanity my golfing buddies, Dad and Rob, we declared ourselves mad and off we went for at least 9 holes.
