      Theodore the Goalie
Uh, I'm not sure how this came around. I'll admit, I'm not a big Capitals guy, but I'm at least aware of the names in play. This one seems to have surprised many as Jose Theodore signed with Washington today....

NHL Goalie Masks, White-Trash Tattoos and Black Velvet Paintings
The look of many NHL goalie masks has taken on a certain sameness in recent seasons. Somehow reminiscent of white-trash tattoos, black velvet paintings and mid-70’s custom designed airbrush artwork on the side of vans (remember CARtoons?) The knee-jerk reaction from most fans is “Oooooooh!” “Kewl!” Kind of like a group of people gathered [...]

BU trio vies for starting goalie nod (CSTV U-WIRE)
(CSTV U-WIRE) BOSTON — The stats were staggering. The records began to pile up. The honors became so numerous they challenged people’s ability to count. But eventually, the final chapter in the improbable story that transformed a walk-on to an All-American came to a close with a first-round exit in last year’s NCAA Tournament. And for the first time in three years the Terriers are faced with a question in net: Who will rise to the occasion and fill John Curry’s crease? Should it be more…

O’Brien enters Notre Dame hockey goalie race (CSTV U-WIRE)
(CSTV U-WIRE) SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The competition to replace Dave Brown as the Notre Dame starting goaltender has become a three-man race since third-string goalie Tom O’Brien has risen from dark horse to neck-and-neck candidate for the former Hobey hopeful’s spot. O’Brien, a sophomore, has conditioned and played his way into joining junior Jordan Pearce and top-ranked freshman prospect Brad Phillips in a battle to backstop the No. 8 Irish that looked last spring as if it had only two more…

No splitting time in net this year for Wisconsin women’s hockey goalie Vetter (CSTV U-WIRE)
(CSTV U-WIRE) MADISON, Wis. — Two years removed from earning Frozen Four Most Outstanding Player honors and a year after winning her second consecutive national championship, University of Wisconsin goalie Jessie Vetter will finally carry the bulk of the load as the Badger net-minder this season, according to head coach Mark Johnson. "I think she’s in a position right now to carry the load a little bit here in the early part of the season," Johnson said. "We’re going to ask her more…

Lacrosse Goalie Gloves That Make You
Goalies play a vital role in a lacrosse team particularly in defense. Team coaches want goalkeepers who have eagle eyes, those that posses assertiveness and alertness that can see slightest movement of air. But not really. To help out a goalie in the field are his protective mask or helmet, shoulder pad, [...]

The 4 Fundamentals Of Top Ice Hockey Skating By Jon Weaver, Thu Dec 8th In ice hockey, skating can make or break you. Here are the 4fundamentals to becoming a top performing ice hockey skater, plus 4 extra techniques to push you right over the edge! 1. A solid, well-balanced stance is basic to any degree of speedyou want to attain. If you will work on your starts, stops, andturns as described, you will be well on your way to goodbalance. 2. In striding, you have better balance if you skate with yourfeet about shoulder width apart. If your feet are too closetogether, you are more easily knocked off-balance in the heavygoing of a game. 3. The faster you skate, the more you should bend forward fromthe waist. The comparison here is to the body-lean of a sprinterdoing the 100-yard dash and the striding form of a two-miler.During the course of a hockey game, you will be both a sprinterand a strider as the play dictates. But when you really want todig fast, with or without the puck, you should

      Meet my goalie!
So, I really really miss watching my Jackets...and I know it's playoff times and I'm still watching hockey but it's not the same without your team in the mix. The Lonesome Goalie
Penguins coach Michel Therrien found his fall guy for the end of the Pens' recent consecutive points streak, and his name is Marc-Andre Fleury. Therrien becomes another in a long line of Pittsburgh coaches publicly criticizing their key contributors, as he's obviously watched many a tape of Bill Cowher brow-beating kickers and punters during his tenure as Steeler coach. If only Fleury could have held off the Isles for another 27 seconds on Monday, we might not have this discussion. Of course, MAF did allow five other goals, so he didn't exactly help his own cause in that President's Day disappointment. I'm a Fleury fan. I enjoy his play, I enjoy his personality, I like the guy a lot. He's one of my favorites on the team. Although it may seem I was recently critical of him, that wasn't the intention. I just noticed a few obvious statistical similarities. He is the present and the future between the pipes for the flightless birds. But I think he needs a break, both mentally and ph
