How to Ditch Dedicated GTD Apps [Getting Things Done] - SendMeRSS
How to Ditch Dedicated GTD Apps [Getting Things Done] Mac user Dennis Best says that using David Allen's Getting Things Done productivity system on your Mac doesn't mean you need to find the ultimate GTD application—that the tools you already have in Mail.app, iCal and Finder get the job done fine. After trying out shiny GTD-specific applications (like Things, which dazzled us too), he's settled on using those built-in tools instead. I'm with Dennis on this—instead of using a special GTD app, I stick to a calendar, email inbox, and a few text files to stay organized. Not to be all finger-waggy, but ultimately it's up to you, not your software, to work the system. Getting things done (simply) in Leopard [Dennis Best via MicroPersuasion] Link - Gina Tr

      Getting Things Done with Gmail
If you’re like me and most other modern day office works, you’ll find yourself checking your e-mail many times a day. Personally, I am rarely away from a computer so in fact, I have my Gmail window open at all times. Because of this fact, I have been using Gmail to keep track of my tasks and to help me in getting things done. This system of Gmail task management takes advantage of two major features of Gmail. Archiving - never having to delete anything. Keyboard shortcuts - maximizing efficiency and saving time. The Goal In using this system, the goal is to keep the Inbox and Drafts folder empty. That’s it! The Rules There are just 4 simple rules to follow: Write down everything! When you have a task to do, compose a draft with a description of the task as the subject title and save the draft (do not send it)! You can jot down ideas in the bodies of these drafts or group similar tasks into a single draft. If an e-mail does not need to be replied to or you have

The Work Environment 4# - Getting Things Done and Self Fulfilling Prophecy
Getting Things Done- Why women should be more Gutsy:A recent research has shown that men are more likely to negotiate and have confidence in theur assessments. The research implies that there is some component of Getting Things Done that supports and teachesbehavious that, in the past, men have excelled at: clarifying what you want, asking for it, and constantly negotiating with oneself and with others to achieve the desired outcome. I find that a bit weord, since several of these components support more of our society's feminine ideal of creating a healthy work/life balance.Encouraging both men and women to practice such powerful behaviours helps them overcome the "assertment handicap" and evolve into better negotiatoers, and help workers communicate better. How do we limit ourselves based on gender, and end up with a self-fulfilling prophecy? The notion of the self-fulfilling prophecy was conceptualized by Robert Merton a professor of sociology at Columbia University. Getting Things Done - A Review
I recently re-read and listened to the audio book by David Allen Getting Things Done - The Art of Stress-Free Productivity.  The difference this time - I was ready to put the techniques to use and have discovered a system that works for me.   The major aha for me was realizing my "to do" list is not enough.  The key step I was missing was taking the time to think about and record the "next action" to take in order to move a project forward to my desired outcome. The basic premise of the book is to get everything out of your head, off your mind and into a trusted system you know you will use.  Older time/resource management systems are inefficient in today's fast-paced, multi-tasking world.  Our minds are powerful instruments - constantly reminding us of things to do, unfinished projects, seemingly endless "open loops" of information.   Our stress levels are increased when we don't have a method of emptying thes

Getting things done can be difficult...
I'm having a hard time keeping on task today. It's like pulling teeth to get me to get things done sometimes. At other times, I'm very productive and can do an amazing amount of work. Then there are times like these where it's next to impossible to accomplish what I need to. It's frustrating.Right now I'm working on a freelance project where I'm writing up fifteen online Japanese lessons. I don't know how much anyone would learn from my lessons, but I'm getting paid well so it's okay. I've also got a delicious paycheck coming this Wednesday. It's over $500! For some reason, I got paid for three hours of overtime at $11 an hour. I don't know how I managed it, but hey, I'll take it!This is one of those days where DBT's opposite to emotion action skill comes in handy. The gist of it is, even though you don't feel like doing something because you're anxious or afraid, you should try to do it anyway (unless it's something actually harmful, of course). That way you'll end

Getting Things Done (GTD): Remember the Milk
I struggle with getting things done, and I struggle with to do lists - I find them overwhelming and not integrated with my life. I can’t carry around small bits of paper, or notepads… so I end up forgetting everything, including the milk. Some days I am lucky I remember my name, and today I found out that a friend of mine is having his second child and he told me months ago - the baby is due in 3 weeks. I need to find something that is going to help me get on top of this mess and bird brain that I seem to have developed! Now I’m trying ‘Remember the Milk’ - an online to do list manager… with a big difference for me! One of the really cool things that like is that it emails me daily about what is due today, and it will also message me via Skype or MSN. I like that it understands that if I say something is due in ‘3 days’, and will calculate that date automatically for me. Very cool. I can also: access it on my mobile phone feed it in

      Getting things done
In a recent post over at the Web Workers Daily, Anne Zelenka asked the question: How do you decide what to do from your to do list? The focus was on a couple hosted software apps that help people follow the Getting Things Done process laid out by David Allen. I haven't really evaluated either Vitalist or Nozbe, though Vitalist appeals more to my design sensibilities. There are several others that look to be worth trying out, too. What I have been doing for some months now is using a Firefox extension to Gmail called GTDGmail. I hadn't really heard of the GTD process before stumbling upon this extension and deciding to try it out. Basically GTD is based on the idea that you have to free your mind from keeping track of tasks by getting those tasks out and into something else, often times paper lists. It goes further into saying that you really should only decide that you are going to work and then let your pre-coded tasks determine what you work on. There is more info to be found on
