      GEORGE WASHINGTON THANKSGIVING PROCLAMATION
Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor -- and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me "to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful

      Painting of George Washington stolen
Detectives say someone swiped an original painting of President George Washington from a home in Sarasota. The work is by James Sharples, who made several portraits of Washington in the late 1700's. While the actual value of the work is undetermined, experts say it would be very high. The owner says the portrait was likely stolen in early September. Anyone with information should contact the Sa

The USS George Washington (SSBN 598)
The USS George Washington (SSBN 598) was the world’s first nuclear powered ballistic missile submarine. High Resolution Image Arguably, it can be considered the submarine that has most influenced world events in the 20th Century. From its launching on June 9th 1959, at Groton, Conn, to its entry into service in December the United States instantly gained the most powerful deterrent force imagi

Didn’t He Sing At George Washington’s Inauguration?
I found a really cool link.  You’ve all seen the “Motivational” posters of people conquering mountains with words like “Perseverance” or “Determination” underneath them?  They then go on to describe what “Perseverance” or “Determination” is and what it should mean to you.  They’re actually really kind of cool.  Therein lie

      George Washington Masonic Memorial...
I took these in Alexandria Virginia at the George Washington Masonic Memorial. It is a beautiful structure that towers more than 300 feet into the sky. You can take a tour of the building that has 9 floors. The elevators are tilted in a 7.5 degree angle and start out about 50 feet apart and on the 9th floor are no more than 10 feet between them. You do not notice the angle as you go up. We di

$17,000 for 4 hairs from George Washington
4 hairs went for a whopping $17,000 to a Richmond man! The owner said the hair had been handed down and the historical Society of Montgomery County, Pa gave it the go –ahead! The weird crazy thing is, it has not even been tested for DNA. Supposedly it was cut back in 1837 from George Washington’s head!

George Washington’s Farewell Warning on Political Parties - A Must Read
In his 1796 farewell, Washington warned: “The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge, natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism.” Also includes passages about foreign wars and fiscal responsibility.read more | digg [...]

George Washington University Punishes Conservative Victims in “Islamo-Fascist Awareness Week” Smear Campaign by Liberal Students
Yesterday I wrote this post about a conservative group at George Washington University who were targeted by liberals on campus with phony fliers which basically called the group a bunch of racists. The conservative group was hosting an event called Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week, and liberals couldn’t deal with the idea that there are dome Muslims who want to kill us, so they perpetrated a smear campaign against the conservative group.   Today the George Washington University administration is taking action, against the conservative group that was smeared. The Young America’s Foundation (YAF) is the conservative group who is the victim here. Liberal conservo-phobes posted a flier all around campus that said “HATE MUSLIMS? SO DO WE!!!”, along with other anti-Muslim remarks, the YAF did not put up these filers, however the administration is treating them as if they did. Administrators at a university in Washington, D.C., are “on a rampage” against a

George Washington University Student Group Promotes “Islamo-Fascist Awareness Week”, Draws Ire from the Left
This is a typical example of what happens when someone on the right dares to speak against something such as Islamo-fascism. The left tries to portray the right as bigots, they will not or cannot accept the fact that you can talk about a specific group of hateful Muslims without condemning all Muslims. I will use the line so many others have used before, all Muslims are not terrorists, but ALL the terrorists are Muslim.  The story linked to above is about a George Washington University student group called the Young America’s Foundation. This is a conservative group who was holding an event called “Islamo-fascist Awareness Week”. You can guess what happened next, but in case you can’t, I will tell you what happened. Or better yet I will also show you what happened next: (more…)

      Pantheon entry George Washington
Washington in action Who: Soldier, father of nation, all around good guy. Why: An obvious choice for my new pantheon, George Washington was, in the truest sense of the word, an amazing man. A consummate man of action, Washington wasn't an inventive genius in the manner of a Franklin or a radical intellectual like Thomas Paine. Nor was he a necessarily a man of reflection like Jefferson. All Washington did was win the War of Independence and steer the radical experiment that was the United States for its first eight years. In other words, others talked, and Washington did (although talking has its place too). Character was Washington's calling card. How important is character in a leader? Consider that Washington's greatest achievement isn't what he did; it's what he didn't do. Although encouraged by many close to him, Washington refused to be the first King of the United States. In a move unprecedented in world history (except for maybe St. More), Washington gave up con

      George Washington's Words Traumatize College
If someone sent me George Washington's Thanksgiving Proclamation, I admit it would bore me, but I would not consider myself victimized. But, I am not a professor at the Glendale Community College in Arizona.Last Thanksgiving a rather dweeby tenured professor spammed his colleagues with an e-mail containing the first president’s proclamation, along with a link to the site he snagged it from, which happened to be that of snarly old Pat Buchanan.Math Prof Walter Kehowski is now on the verge of being fired. It seems several of his colleagues were profoundly disturbed by the e-mail. Five even went so far as to file harassment charges , claiming his message was "hostile" and "derogatory."Kehowski was put on administrative leave pending a final determination of this serious matter.Once it was pointed out the whole thing was really not all that hositile, and since an e-mail is something you can just choose to ignore, it can not really be considered harassment, that aspect of the charge was
