Mig5, a user at UbuntuForums.org managed to validate an Ubuntu installation as a genuine copy of Microsoft Windows and get to the download page of Windows Defender, using IE4Linux and Wine. As IE4Linux doesn’t support ActiveX, he downloaded the validation tool and ran it using Wine. The validation tool generated the code. Surprisingly, it verified Ubuntu as ‘Genuine Windows’ and forwarded him to the Defender download page. This means a validation bypass for the WGA validation. Someone over at the Ubuntu Forum managed to validate Xbuntu as “Genuine Windows”. He was trying to download Windows Defender from Microsoft’s website using IE4Linux, when he was asked to go through Genuine Advantage Test. As IE4Linux doesn’t support ActiveX, he downloaded the validation tool and ran it using Wine. The validation tool generated a code, which had to be pasted into the authentication box to validate.
