Parents, I have a question for you. What do you suppose would happen if you attempted to raise a child without any sort of accountability - no discipline, no enforcement of rules, no consequences of any kind? Is it safe to say that your child would likely get into some trouble and end up poorly adjusted? Wouldn't you expect that the total absence of accountability would lead to chaos? And in this case, wouldn't it be difficult not to blame the parent for the child's behavior?Dear readers, I submit to you that you and I are more responsible than we'd like to admit for the chronic incompetence and criminal behavior of George W. Bush, America's child-in-chief. For refusing to demand impeachment and allowing our elected representatives to look the other way on Iraq, Hurricane Katrina, torture,

Hope you're not planning to live long or are lucky enough to be independently wealthy because there is a chance Medicare will be depleted by 2017 and Social Security will be depleted by 2041.By 2041, I will be 68 years old. I actually started paying attention more to what I eat recently, as I hit 35 and that was my main health issue, considering I barely drink and never smoked. However, I may need to make and save as much money as possible, never have a family and hope that no serious medical issue puts me in a financial bind. I believe that is going to be the only way I may last during my old age.You begin to wonder if the economic decisions in this country have been made by people who don't really give a crap about how their children are going to live. Particularly, it seems that the bab
Sarraa BarhoumI must share my disgust with Israel and the rest of the international community over the Hamas weekly children's television show, “Tomorrow's Pioneers,” that exploits kids to further the destruction of Israel. But in this interview we have the show's host, Sarraa Barhoum, 12, just a wisp of a girl, say that she believes in her cause on Al-Aqsa TV and will not put anything on the air she doesn't believe in. I wonder will Sarraa be 10 years from now. Tim Kring gave an exclusive interview for TVGuide.com explaining the sudden season finale of Heroes volume two "Generations" and giving us some clues about the two fallen heroes and the upcoming "Villains" volume, consisting of more than 11 episodes i hope :).I don`t want to spoil but if you will read the interview it`s the same thing, you should watch the episode before reading it, if you can. The final episode left us with Hiro punishing Adam in a very ironic way and with Nathan`s unsuccessful attempt to expose the Company, Nathan`s fate seems rather dark but with pretty big fan reactions from what i`ve seen on the official forums he might be resurrected next season, after the strike ends.I invite you to read the full interview and you will get some nice info, also some other stuff to l
Between Year 0 and 2000 A.D., there's been 2000 years. Of course. Since people in ancient times had kids at a very young age, maybe even as early as 10-12 years, and many people nowadays have kids at around age 25, that makes the span of a generation vary from around 10 to around 25 years. So 2000 / 10 = 200 generations, and 2000 / 25 = 80 generations since Christ.Wow! Between 80 and 200 generations. That doesn't seem so long! You're born. Then you have a kid. Then he/she has a kid. That's 3. Just keep going until you get to 200 at the most. But instead, go backwards. You were born, your parents, your grandparents...I wonder if Christ left any descendants, as depicted in various modern novels? Is the general populous ready for (or needing) his return? Or has genetic mutation and evolution given us certain Christ-like potential? Are we capable of becoming more? Or is it more a matter of spirituality? Or maybe instead, technology?
another amazing opportunity that shichi-go-san offers is to see three generations coming together as a family to celebrate this transition in age.
i have found that one of the largest differences between Japanese and American culture is the large number of family-oriented festivals and events in Japan-- events aimed at bringing the family together. as, traditionally, Japanese society has been extremely important, this is not very surprising; however, what does surprise me a little is the strong effect that modern times have had on the Japanese. as prices and living expenses have risen, more income has been necessary; consequently, many workers have moved to the large cities (like Tokyo and Osaka) to get the high-salary jobs. this has led to a surge in the number of commuter marriages: mom

The world has come to know four generations of the Chevrolet Camaro and each of these generations were distinct and unique from the rest. At first, this vehicle was actually made known to the public in the United States and the rest of North America in the early part of 1967. It was presented by the General Motor’ Chevrolet Motor Division. It was destined to be a competition for the Ford Mustang. It also used the very same F Body Platform which was from General Motors, along with other major components that the Pontiac Firebird also used. That is why many people who have come to know and to remember the Chevrolet Camaro says and remembers this vehicle as the Pontiac Firebird’s sister, or sibling at that.During that period, the Chevrolet Camaro was known to be a compact car. And soon enough, it was known to be a pony car. This meant that it was a competitor of the Ford Mustang. Aside from that reputation, the Chevrolet Camaro was also classified as an intermediate touring car, a spo
I got this on an email. I it pretty fun. And at the same time quite revealing on the social and moral decline that we are living through (and hopefully doing something to change).I posted a similar fun series of comparisons of the last 30 years called All in the Name of Progress. And if you don't read anything - at least check out the quote from Jay Leno on the bottom.TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED the 1930's, 40's, 50's, 60'sand 70's!!First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant. They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes. Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints. We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking. As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, booster seats, seat be
This is a post I wrote back in May, that has been simmering in my subconscious. Finally, with Kathy away at camp, it has a chance to see the light of the blogosphere. It is hard to live with a blog-hog, but somehow I manage.

It is the weekend before Memorial Day, and I am about to celebrate my fifteenth anniversary with my beloved. Hard to believe that we have been married for so long, and yet in some ways I feel as though we have always been husband and wife. We had hoped to spend four or five days alone in a fancy bed-and-breakfast (well, OK, in our own home) devoid of the scampering feet of our five children. My parents had agreed to take the kids from Wednesday evening through Sunday … I had arranged to take both days off from work — what plans we had! Alas, it was not to be.

My grandfather used to say, the dead should take their secrets with them. I might have been the only one who heard him while everyone else, including my mother, his daughter, dismissed his words as the ramblings of a senile man. It’s true my grandfather was old, it’s also true that he had once roamed the city streets for over an hour on a rainy day without any pants on but that didn’t mean that all his words were meant to be ignored.
At least I didn’t think so.
He didn’t believe in much, my grandfather but he did believe that a man’s underarms should be shaved. I have no idea why. He would often go days without saying anything to anyone and then suddenly because he had caught sight of my teenage growth spurt manifested as underarm hair he would instruct my mother to tell me to shave. Even though I was standing right there.
To say that my grandfather was indirect was to say that the Earth orbited the sun, as if you’d only just found out.
So granddad said a few other things

A firewall is a network gateway that enforces security rules on the conversion of peer-to-peer communications. Essentially, a firewall creates a boundary between two or more networks. A firewall is usually configured as a bastion host or a dual-homed bastion host. It evaluates each network packet against a network security policy, which is a collection of security rules, conventions, and procedures governing communications into and out of a network. Usually, IP traffic forwarding is disabled on the firewall to ensure that all traffic between the internal network and external networks passes through the firewall server, thereby allowing the firewall to inspect all network packets that traverse the network boundary. Most firewall technologies provide different capabilities for auditing communication events. Usually, the firewalls generate audit records detailing the cause and circumstances surrounding the triggering of audit events. As firewall technology improves, firewalls inspect addit
I read an interesting article in Inman news this morning, written by Bernice Ross.
The article is about how to seize opportunities going forward in the real estate business based upon "speaking" to the buyers. Some interesting national statistics:
· The median age of Realtors in the US is 50 (you're telling me!)
· 37% of the population was born between 1965 and 1994.
These stats raise an interesting question...Are today's real estate agents meeting the needs of, and communicating properly with generations x and Y? Greg and I often talk about different ways of doing business, each coming from both sides of the spectrum. While Greg is steadfast about face to face communications and telephone calls, I am really trying to push towards blogging, email and text messaging as a way to communicate quicker and more efficiently.
There is nothing that has the impact of a face to face transaction...those are simply irreplaceable. It's a new w

This isn't talking about generations of people. The generations in question are the generations of warfare itself. Part of the problem we're facing right now in Iraq and Afghanistan is that our leadership is trying to fight a third generation war against a fourth generation enemy.
Although the use of the word "generation" implies a more sequential and linear progression than we actually see in the history of warfare, it is an evolutionary process. In simple form, here are the differences between generations:
To begin with, war has apparently been around since prehistoric bands of hunter-gatherers skirmished over turf or food. Archeological evidence shows that people have been killing each other for as long as we've been around. Some of the oldest human remains ever found, including the neolithic hunter found frozen in the Alps and various bodies found preserved in bogs, had wounds made by weapons. Amid the ruins of the Anasazi culture in the American southwest are bones w
