So, Barracuda is much better than “Barracuda,” the story its a sequel to, which ran in Punisher MAX. Maybe not, actually. That story was Ennis’s first disappointing arc on Punisher MAX (after “The Slavers,” though, anything would have been a disappointment… but “Barracuda” was definitely more of one than it had to be). The limited series, however, is okay… better than expected. It’s toned down outlandish Ennis, almost a modernized version of his Rifle Brigade series (the okay first one, not the atrocious second). There’s a porn star, a transvestite and other assorted folks. It’s a big cast, usually played for laughs and I’m shocked Marvel hasn’t sold the movie rights to… I don’t know rappers these days. When I got done with the second issue of Wormwood, I got thinking it was that romantic Ennis I’d been waiting since Unknown Soldier to read again. To some degree–a good (quality-wise, not quantity-wise) degree–it is. But Wormwood is more. Wormwood is a personable Garth Ennis, it’s a Garth Ennis one would have a Guinness with. While Ennis seems like quite the Guinness fan, he always seems a little detached these days–not in bad ways, but he just seems more interested in delivering good work, responsible to itself. Chronicles of Wormwood is very different, because it’s a crowd-pleaser. Much more so than Preacher, Wormwood is Star Wars (or whatever fanboys still like these days) for atheists. It’s all of Preacher’s antitheist goodness, but it’s fun–and it’s done in six. Where Preacher was big and unwieldy in the end, Wormwood is concise, effective, enlightening, and entertaining. Looks like Garth Brooks is planning on releasing a new boxed set called “The Ultimate Hits” on November 6th. Just in time for Christmas! The first single from this CD set will be released on August 27 and it will be called “More Than A Memory.” Definitely can’t wait to hear that one!

Today at the Garth Brooks press conference it was confirmed that a newly-recorded single will be delivered to country radio on Aug 27, this will be part of a media promotion for his November 6th release of his new CD/DVD package named “The Ultimate Hits”.

As a writer, Garth Ennis is in a weird place today. He's in his finest form, whether it's The Punisher (which shows his handle on telling human stories under the most unlikely circumstance) or The Boys (which shows, just because he's telling crude jokes about superheroes, he can also get the human element in there), but there's almost no buzz around him. His Ghost Rider series got more buzz than anything else lately... and, since he is in that great form, writing some of the best comics coming out today, it's all incredibly distressing. Maverick (or should I say, "Progressive Conservative") MP Garth Turner has announced that he "...will campaign for Green Party Leader Elizabeth May in a byelection in London, Ont.", according to the CBC.Garth held a press conference earlier today, in which he formally quit the "hats and horses" (aka Reform/Alliance) party, and provided evidence that what was once the most grassroots of all federal parties has become the most elitist party in the history of Canada, ignoring the decision of local electoral district associations in favour of the dictates of party strategists.Garth clarified false rumours that he would become the first Green MP by joining Canada's hottest new political party, and instead wants the Greens to elect their first MP by their own merit - in the form of Green Party of Canada leader Elizabeth May, who is competing in the London-North-Centre by-election.With all of the mudslinging going on amongst the old-line parties, and given the innovative and positive policie
It's obvious. Being an Independent was fun for a while. Garth got some national attention for himself as well as his blog, but now he wants more. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with being a little opportunistic. Will he win again as a Green? That remains to be seen. At the end of the day, however, his constituents will look for what he accomplished as a Green, not how big a show he put on before becoming one.

Garth Turner should go Green too, because it’s his best revenge against Harper after he was dumped from the Conservative party for having an independent blog. It was a potentially politically fatal mistake for Harper, having ousted an MP willing to be a maverick, and could give the Greens their initial “in” to the House. The next election, the Greens could easily pick up a few NDP, Liberal, and Conservative seats once they are given the “TV legitimacy” that CBC and other media have been denying them. A similar explosion in media coverage and House representation happened after 1993, and the Reform Party became the biggest english opposition to the Liberals since the incumbent PCs were swept away with only two seats.
