Why does garbage sell so well? I’m talking about really crappy paintings and other art that goes for thousands or even millions of dollars. This is a rhetorical question of course, as I will give my own answer in a minute. Some might say that a piece is worth what the buyer is willing to pay or maybe it’s worth more if you are famous or have built up credibility. I don’t believe this to be entirely true, at least it shouldn’t be. The value of a painting should be based on the talent of the person, the technique, and the time, instead of their popularity. I can understand how one would pay a good amount for a painting because it makes them feel good or reminds them of something/someone, but would you really pay over $100 million because it makes you feel good? Even if you have butt loads of cash, if you pay $100 million for a dried up piece of canvas, you suck. (more…)

From Garbage Bin to Gallery - But is it Art? Have you ever pretended to understand and appreciate an artwork in a gallery just so that you didn’t appear ignorant, I know I have. If you go into any contemporary art gallery you will most likely see people standing in front of artworks with expressions on their face that would suggest that they understand the artwork when in fact they have absolutely no idea what they are looking at. People’s reluctance to question the legitimacy or artistic value of an artwork for fear of appearing ignorant or just not cool enough to be able to engage with or understand the artwork has basically allowed artists to completely disregard the boundaries of artistic practice without consequence. The factors and characteristics that distinguish an artwork from any other object have virtually become obsolete which has allowed people to classify anything that is placed in a gallery as art. That’s it… I’m moving back home! Until I left the comfort and security of Mum’s sleepout, I never realised how good I had it. To save money on garbage bags for the bathroom or a little wastebasket, Hubby and I use our plastic grocery bags we get at the store. The handles on the bags can be tied up and tossed out in the garbage can. In addition to that, use plastic bags that we sometimes have groceries in make great small garbage bags. One woman had her teenage daughter clean her room. The daughter proudly did just that, filling two huge trash bags of things she no longer wanted. Out of curiosity, the mother peeked into one of the bags to see what was being thrown away. In shock, she found a new tube of suntan lotion, two perfectly good sweaters, makeup, lotion, a picture frame, hair curlers, all good things. The daughter did not realize that just because the items were of no interest to her, they might be to someone else. After talking to her daughter, the mom turned around and listed the items on eBay, making a $35 profit on her daughter’s “junk.”

Pumpkin & Princess love each other. I know this for a fact. And I'm THRILLED about that! They want to play together. Talk. Cause trouble. This way, it's quiet in the house so that Sweetpea can nap and Mommy can find some sanity. I use that time to plan dinner, do some chores, return phone calls or just rest myself. Somedays I let them stay up for a special trip or a fun activity. I do NOT require Pumpkin and Princess to sleep. Ingredients:6 cups of potatoes (red, white, and/or yellow)½ good-sized onion (diced)1 medium tomato (diced)½ green pepper (diced)2 stalks of celery (diced)2 hard boiled eggs¼ cup minced raw carrots¾ cup Miracle Whip (or mayonnaise)¼ cup mustard2 T bacon bitsChili powder or paprikaSaltPepperCelery leaves or parsley.Instructions:Wash fresh ingredients. Cube potatoes (do not peel) into 1- or 2-inch pieces. Add tostockpot and bring to boil. Cook until you tender (can pierce with a fork, but not so long they are mushy). Drain in colander and set aside to cool. Dice onion, pepper, celery, tomato, and add into large bowl. Add minced carrots. Chop one egg, and add to bowl. Add potatoes, mayonnaise, bacon bits, and mustard and mix well. Add salt and pepper to taste. If the salad is too pasty, you can add small amounts of mayonnaise and mustard to.soften. the blend. You want to try to keep it .chunky.. When finished, scoop salad into serving dish and with a wet spoon, flatten surface. Slice

Three years ago, when we were in the process of renovating our apartment, one of the things I specified to our designer was to have a garbage bin in the kitchen that's not only functional and utilitarian but also beautiful and pleasing to the eyes. She was quick to reply that, it was not going to be a problem because with the new innovations in kitchen designs, the garbage bin can be hidden under one of the cabinets that will just slide in and out for easy access. I didn't like the idea because, I don't have a big kitchen and I didn't want the garbage bin to cut into my storage space.The solution? She found this and I immediately said this is it. I didn't want to have one of those made of plastic or stainless. It's hand painted wood and very well made. The only downside was since it was customized it took a while to be delivered. I just love the design and it goes well with my kitchen decor. It sits well in this corner of my kitchen and it's been a conversation piece everytime
