Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination in 1948 forced the Nobel Prize Committee which had “unanimously” decided to confer him with the top honour after short-listing the Indian leader for the five times - to abandon the plan. “(Mahatma) Gandhi was short-listed for the Nobel Prize five times,” Norwegian Nobel Committee chief Ole Danbolt [...]
A rare recording of a speech made by Mahatma Gandhi in English has surfaced in Washington. The Mahatma, who studied Law in England, almost invariably spoke in Hindi or in his mother tongue, Gujarati. In fact, he was recorded speaking in English on only two occasions, in the 1930s and on April 02, 1947.The historic speech that the Mahatma gave a few months before he was assassinated and only one da

Ranbir Kapoor is finally ditching the lover boy tag! Looks like the actor will play none other than slain PM Rajiv Gandhi in Prakash Jha’s Rajniti. “I had my mind and heart set on Ranbir for the role. It’s a role that requires innocence, nobility, idealism, vision and dynamism. It also requires a personality of perfect breeding and gentility. I’d have probably dropped Rajniti if Ranbir hadn’t agreed. I could see he was guarded when we met. But the reserve dissolved when I narrated my script to him. ‘I am doing this,’ is all he said after hearing me out,” says Jha. Jha is currently looking at three top young international actresses to play Ranbir’s companion. “The heroine won’t be a non-descript model or TV

Nonviolence by Gandhi"I wanted to avoid violence. Non-violence is the first article of my faith. It is also the last article of my creed. But I had to make my choice. I had to either submit to a system that I considered had done an irreparable harm to my country, or incur the risk of the mad fury of my people bursting forth when they understood the truth from my lips. I know that my people have sometimes gone mad. I am deeply sorry for it and I am, therefore, here to submit not to a light penalty but to the highest penalty. I do not ask for mercy. I do not plead any extenuating act. I am here therefore to invite, and cheerfully submit to the highest penalty that can be inflicted upon me for what in law is a deliberate crime, and what appears to me to be the highest duty of a citizen... I owe it perhaps to the Indian public and the public in England... To the court too I should say why I plead guilty to the charge of promoting disaffection towards the Government established by law in I

Today I came across an article in New York Times - 'From Iran's Fiery Leader, a Slightly Tamer Blog' that informed the readers about the blog maintained by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, President of Iran. Was really surprised on hearing that.If the fiery leader of Iran could maintain a blog, what prevents any of our Indian political leaders to do the same thing? It would provide each of them an opportunity/platform to interact with the public and discuss the rational for their various policies. Also the person's popularity among the youth and IT crowd would go up one or two notches. It is even acceptable that we can not expect these things from the oldies like Advani(Presidential Candidate, BJP) or Mr. M Karunadhi(CM, Tamilnadu). But what prevents the younger generation leaders like Maran, Rahul Gandhi, etc to use the web/blogging as a medium to interact with the general public. Hope it happens soon.P.S: Link to Mahoumd Ahmadinejad' Blog - http://www.ahmadinejad.ir/

Today is another blue day. Just the way you wanted it. The skies are clear and the air is pollution free. Doesn't it make you happy? Or does a blue day mean something else to you? Maybe it's the making of a new friendship or a quiet passing into death or the total forgiveness of an enemy? Don't forget the taste of honeysuckle or the possible existence of an after-life. How about sex with an alien? Whatever you wish for, today's your day. Just ask the first talking llama you run into. Remarkably, we can now communicate with the sea. We understand why she has been so churned up lately. Off-shore drilling for oil has stopped and so has massive ocean dumping. By way of thanks, fish stocks are up in areas recovering from the 2004 tsunami and temperate weather has returned to the Caribbean. Mother Ocean is a friend again.World Prime Minister Gandhi appeared on the BBC and discussed the miracle procedure that brought him back to l

This is a off-topic post, which I wish to share with all the readers Today is 2nd October which most of the peoples celebrate as Holiday and many hates becuase of a dry-day, Yes today is the Gandhi Jayanti. First thing I have done today morning to read news paper which was short of any good news and a lot of posters of Gandh Ji whith almost all the Goverments department putting a almost half page colour page advertisement which was showing their love for the Great Man. There were pictures of more than 50 differnt peoples whom I have never seen or read about neither I am interested to. Question comes to my mind that is this the only way we remember Gandhi Ji? Just puting his picture with their own? What no one noticed is that how much money Goverment have given for these advertisements, no one is interested in that. But I felt really bad thinkng of all the departments are giving their seperate advertiment.I Hate politicians!!
First of all, I am happy that 2nd October-the birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, is going to be International Non-Violence day. Gandhiji who is also the father of the nation of India, was a remarkeble but often lawyer, philopher, visionory, liberal, politician, leader, freedom fighter, sage all in one from the pious land of India in case you live under a rock and don't know about him. It is naturally a public holiday through out India, and sadly, to most Indians, this is all Gandhi Jayanti means, a public holiday. There are many who even criticize his philosophy supplying adjectives like fanciful, idealistic, naive, and immature and yet these people in a de-facto or auto-pilot kind of way or for lack of a better word, cowardice also are living his philosophy, these are the people who put up with a lot of crap that they are meted out by fellow men & women but can not oppose the opression because they don't have the guts to fight, they wish they were braver and this makes them gi
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was an ordinary man with extraordinary acumen and charisma thrust upon him by the people to his great discomfort, who dreamt of an utopian world full of promises that was destined not to happen, at least till he comes back again and get into it. He fondly called it the Rama Rajya (the kingdom of Lord Rama) but could never comprehend it fully to even his own amazement and enjoyed it too. Like Jesus the Christ and Goutama the Buddha, he very clearly knew that by its very nature, the worlds of ours are imperfect and further that its inherent contradictions are its only strengths and realities, including those dreams.Gandhi liked to habitually experiment with something that he called truth. It somehow made him quite different sort of a person in a time characterized
The Seven Blunders of the World is a list that Mahatma Gandhi gave to his grandson Arun Gandhi, written on a piece of paper, on their final day together, not too long before his assassination.[1] The seven blunders are: Wealth without workPleasure without conscienceKnowledge without characterCommerce without moralityScience without humanityWorship without sacrificePolitics without principle This list grew from Gandhi's search for the roots of violence. He called these acts of passive violence. Preventing these is the best way to prevent oneself or one's society from reaching a point of violence. To this list, Arun Gandhi added an eighth blunder, Rights without responsibilities.Source
The Law Of Love by Mahatma Gandhi"The law of love will work, just as the law of gravitation will work, whether we accept it or not.... a man who applies the law of love with scientific precision can work great wonders.... The men who discovered for us the law of love were greater scientists than any of our modern scientists... The more I work with this law, the more I feel the delight in life, the delight in the scheme of this universe. It gives me a peace and a meaning of the mysteries of nature that I have no power to describe."-- Mahatma GandhiFor Andy Tay, upon his return, after the start of his great journey of self-discovery.As usual, please feel free to send me your thoughts and comments to Info@DifferWorld.com And if you'd like to explore how you, your teams and your organization can benefit from the above and other DifferWorld initiatives please feel free to drop me a note by clicking here, or call me at DIFFERWORLD at SKYPE now! A strong rumour is going on in the State political circles that Megastar Chiranjeevi is all set to spring a surprise on the people by announcing his party on October 2, Gandhi Jayanti day.According to these rumours, Chiranjeevi has already drafted his plans to launch his political party and is deliberating on its name. For some time, he made himself not available to any of his friends and even closest of his family members, except his brother-in-law Allu Aravind and a few other friends in his community circle. He does not want to attend even the releasing function of his son Ram Charan Teja's film Chirutha later this month. It is only after announcing the launch of his party, does Chiranjeevi come out with a strategy to build up the party organization, after watching the people's response.According to sources, the Mega Star is of the view that the time is ripe for launching the party, since the situation is very fluid at this stage. “The greatest regret of my life…Two people I could never convince --My Muslim friend Mohammed Ali Jinnah andMy own son Harilal Gandhi.”Making a film based on true events is difficult. Not only does it entail lots and lots of research, but to recreate the bygone era and get the right set of actors to enact the characters is another challenge. It's all the more tough if the film is based on Mahatma Gandhi. And a far bigger challenge is to present the relationship shared by the Mahatma and his son Harilal. Everyone knows about Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, but not much is known about him as a father to his children. GANDHI MY FATHER tells the story of Harilal Gandhi and the relationship he shared with his parents, more particularly with his father, the great Mahatma. GANDHI MY FATHER leaves an indelible impression on the viewer. Since the story of Harilal is not known to many, you absorb every incident like a sponge absorbs water. It's an enlightening experience

Rajmohan Gandhi the grandson of Mahatma Gandhi said that Mahatma Gandhi would have "stood up to" the Taliban and Osama bin Laden if he were alive today, one of his grandsons said in an interview. Rajmohan Gandhi told the BBC his grandfather would also have tried to organise "something dramatic" - perhaps a mass fast ... But would he? As he is no longer alive we can only judge him by the decisions he took. The first genocidal killing of members of a particular community (Hindus) was organized by a Chief Minister (then called Premier) H S Suhravardi of the undivided State of Bengal on 16 August 1946 as part of the Direct Action. The Direct Action was not against the British who were rulers of India, but against the Hindus who were opposing the partition of India. Ten thousand Hindus were massacred in Calcutta on the first day itself. But what Gandhi did? He never lifted a finger for the Hindus, and when the Hindus started retaliating in Bihar (a state of India) Gandhi instantly went

About three decades ago Sir Richard Attenborough introduced Gnadhi ji as "Mahatma" which means the "great soul of India" to the World. Dr Ramchandra Gandhi, a grandson of Mahatma Gandhi and renowned philosopher and writer, was found dead at the India International Centre, Delhi, on Wednesday. His body was found in Room No 15 of the IIC. Ramchandra Gandhi was the son of Devdas Gandhi, Mahatma's fourth son, and elder brother of West Bengal Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi. An author of several books on philosophy, Ramchandra had also written and produced several plays and a film on his grandfather, Mahatma Gandhi. He had several books to his credit, including Sitas's Kitchen, Svaraj: A Journey with Tyeb Mehta's 'Shantiniketan Tryptich, Munniya's Light and others. Munniya's Light was Ramachandra Gandhi's maiden venture into fiction. A renowned playwright, Dr Gandhi researched and wrote six plays, each dealing with spiritual greats like Ramakrishna Paramhansa, Swami Vivekananda, Francis of Assisi and Ramana Mahanti through the abhinaya of Narayan. Mahatma Gandhi(Indian: 1869-1948) That which distinguishes man from all other animals is his capacity to be nonviolent. True humility, therefore, requires us to dedicate ourselves to the service of all living creatures. Civility does not here mean mere outward gentleness of speech cultivated for the occasion, but an in-born gentleness and desire to do the opponent good. It is our actions which count. Thoughts, however good in themselves, are like false pearls unless they are translated into action. Formerly, men worked in the open air only so much as they liked. Now thousands of workmen meet together and for the sake of maintenance work in factories or mines. Their condition is worse than that of beasts. They are obliged to work, at the risk of their lives, at most dangerous occupations, for the sake of millionaires. Formerly, men were made slaves under physical compulsion. Now they are enslaved by the temptation o

Whatever Mulayam has done for Uttar Pradesh is good but young blood like Rahul Gadhi can create some good environment in our sick politics. Few years back Mulay
