Billionaire George Soros Funded Iraq Study

Soros, 77, provided almost half the nearly $100,000 cost of the research, which appeared in The Lancet, the medical journal. Its claim was 10 times higher than consensus estimates of the number of war dead. The study, published in 2006, was hailed by antiwar campaigners as evidence of the scale of the disaster caused by the invasion, but Downing Street and President George Bush challenged its methodology.New research published by The New England Journal of Medicine estimates that 151,000 people - less than a quarter of The Lancet estimate - have died since the invasion in 2003.“The authors should have discl

Health Focus: Meat-funded study tries to debunk vegetarian lifestyle
When a title for an article is “Vegetarian diet is nuts: study,” you know that somewhere down the line, the study was funded by a livestock association. Upon reading the article, it becomes clear that the “study was funded by Meat and Livestock Australia.” According to the study, “Vegetarians must double their portion size and kilojoule intake to achieve recommended daily levels of iron, zinc and omega-3 fatty acids.” Is this an attempt by Meat and Livestock Australia to try and turn Vegetarians back into meat-eaters, or, is this, in fact, true? Many studies and books that I’ve read advise it’s quite easy to achieve the daily level of nutritional requirements. The article itself has suggestions by the VNV (Vegetarian Network of Victoria) that by eating a balanced diet, you can in fact decrease your risk of osteo and heart disease. Bill in Senate to Expand Public Access to Taxpayer-funded Research
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is the world’s largest source of funding for biomedical research. Taxpayers provide more than $28 billion annually for the NIH (1), yet only about a third of the research studies are made publicly available in various repositories after a 12-month delay (2). Lawmakers are trying to change this and the U.S. Senate is currently deliberating a bill that would require all research funded by the NIH to be freely available to the public within 12 months of publication. The requirement builds upon an earlier voluntary NIH initiative to establish a web-based repository for barrier-free access to primary reports in the life sciences (3). Unfortunately, since it’s implementation, the voluntary initiative has failed to attain a deposit rate greater than 5% by individual researchers (4). Thus, advocates of open access to scientific research have been lobbying to make it a mandatory requirement. The U.S. House of Representatives passed the provis

Iraq War Funded - The Defeatocrats Lose

Less than two hours earlier, the House had cleared the measure, 280-142, with Republicans supplying the bulk of the support.Five months in power on Capitol Hill, Democrats in both houses coupled their concession to the president with pledges to challenge his policies anew. “This debate will go on,” vowed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, announcing plans to hold votes by fall on four separate measures seeking a change in course. In a highly unusual maneuver, House Democratic leaders crafted a procedure that allowed their rank and file to oppose money for the war, then step aside so Republicans could advance it. Advertiser-funded content is helping brands reach young consumers and the mobile networks make their heavy 3G investments pay off. The potential is huge — the mobile phone is the most direct marketing route available — but brands have so far failed truly to exploit the opportunities. There is currently something of a land grab for mobile content and services funded by advertising, allowing viewers free access in exchange for their eyeballs. Brands are trying to discover what will work for them — a task not made any easier by obstacles thrown up by networks, such as different handsets requiring different video formats. Many advertisers are therefore wondering whether to get involved with sponsored mobile content now or wait until the creases have been ironed out. One pressing argument for early adoption is the numbers. ‘There are approximately 1billion WAP page impressions served in the UK and millions of video downloads per month, so the reach is big enough to interest advertis

      Taxpayer Funded Development Trend Continues
As long as taxpayers are supporting private development the economic conditions hurting the area will persist. The Buffalo Urban Renewal Agency approved a $2 million low-interest loan that will help finance the development of the Warehouse Lofts project. The loan package was approved during the agency’s meeting Thursday. The Warehouse Lofts are the latest in a lengthy series of downtown residential projects. Since 2002, more than 1,000 people have moved into more than 400 apartments and lofts in the immediate downtown area. Schneider said he expects that trend to continue. “We’re still bullish on the market,” he said. The government guaranteed financing takes the money out of tax payers pockets to subsidize apartments for a select few individuals. If this is such a bullish market, why is taxpayer support needed for an apartment building? The apartments will include 10 single-bedroom units and 20 two-bedroom units. The apartments will range in size from
