The frog is an amphibian in the order Anura (meaning "tail-less", from Greek an-, without + oura, tail), formerly referred to as Salientia (Latin saltare, to jump). The name frog derives from Old English frogga, (compare Old Norse frauki, German Frosch, older Dutch spelling kikvorsch), cognate with Sanskrit plava (frog), probably deriving from Proto-Indo-European praw = "to jump&quo
Marc Jacobs 'Rana' Frog PouchIn modern versions of The Frog Prince tale, the transformation into handsome prince is triggered by a magical moment in which the princess puckers up and softly kisses the frog. But in the original Brother's Grimm version, the frog's spell was actually broken when the princess threw it against a wall in disgust (a common folkloric trait of undoing shape shifting magic
I had the singular misfortune of spending some leisure time with an inebriated Frenchman while in Chicago on business last week. As I had imbibed during the evening, I tried not to be too judgmental about his slurred speech and obvious disregard for personal space. Beyond his halitosis (and the occasional blast of spittle), it was his conversation that gave me considerable pause.Even through his l

My boy has a deep and undying love for frogs.Mom, I'm just curious about frogs. He says in a most forlorn manner when asked about his fixation. Enough frogs were beginning to go through our house, subjected to baths with the Bear and dying at the end of a day of over-handling that I began to worry about the local population. I'd hate my son and his fascination to be responsible for the extinction

With so much rain lately and very little movement in the garden , strange little creatures are trying to take up residence. This spider was pretty but huge ! We even have tadpoles in puddles in the yard and fountain. Our back yard at night sounds like a symphony of frogs. Sure hope we dry out here soon.We received a rather odd letter from SIPP today telling us they reversed their decision on f
After not having seen any frogs around for a while they were back again tonight. The first we encountered just outside the back door where the decking doesn't quite meet the house and there is a small gap. Said frog was using the famous small animal logic "if I can't see you then you can't see me", and was sitting with this head under the decking and his bottom poking out. So, I scooped

As well as enjoying food, cooking and eating, I love travelling and especially the food experiences you get in foreign places.I have a photo shuffle screensaver set up, and when I came to my PC just now this picture was on display... a box of live frogs! As seen in a market in this mystery destination. The market contained many foodie delights, most of then live in some way or another! This guy I found very interesting - he is cutting the claws off chickens feet - taking them from the box by his lap, cutting the nails, and then chucking them in the bucket by his feet. Now some more market life shots - such a great array of food stuffs! This one is a little bit blurry but

A university in the Netherlands has been experimenting with very high-powered electromagnets. Everything from your mom's favorite tea set to the annoying kid throwing paper airplanes in the back of the bus has a magnetic field, even if it's tiny. However, with enough juice running through an electromagnet, scientists can make anything fly. Take, for instance, the levitating frog, which can surf an electromagnetic wave with the best of them. It'll be a while before you can strap on your Magneto boots and take to the skies, though. It takes a magnet with a 16-tesla magnetic field to lift a small frog into the air. The strongest magnetic field ever sustained in a lab was 60 teslas, and a 1.43 gigawatt motor powered that magnet. That's enough wattage to send Marty McFly back to 1985.

Apparently, if you put a frog in boiling water it’ll frantically try to escape, but if you put it into a pan of tepid water it’ll feel comfortable and as the water heats up, will fall into a tranquil state, gradually allowing itself to be boiled to death without even noticing. I was searching through my photos and I came across this frog photo I took last summer in August 2007 (Scanlon Creek Conservation Area). A funny thought came across my mind when I was preparing this photo for the post. It reminded me the Everybody Loves Raymond sitcom episode She's The One, when Robert thinks that he finally found the one, however, what he found was a frog lover, lol.So I had frogs on my blog before, however, I just wanted to come back to talk about what happens to frogs during winter - just to keep the winter theme. Well, we know that frogs to not migrate, just imagine how could they; no fur to grow and no wings to fly South; and believe or not they do not freeze and then thaw, lol. Well, since I made you read a lot in the last post I will make it simple. The frogs prepar

With all due respect to Senor Frog, his crewm and to the entire waitressing communitym I would not, in the least be surprised if this girl participated in a bukkake session that night. Look at her face! It’s got “plaster me” written all over it. I’m sorry, I know I’m being rude and lewd but come on. Am I wrong?
Seriously, what do you really think is in that shot glass? There’s a reason that schmuck in the background is laughing.
Figured since there were only 2 pictures of the shot girl that I’d end with a Hooters girl in a hula hoop. Can’t really go wrong there. Brits in Cancun submitted these.
Sounds about right. She’s up there in the middle of the crowd. No one is dancing with her. Lame guy with glasses in the background is sitting there smiling knowing he’ll never get up.
I had to post this picture. This girl has braces. That’s just priceless.
That guy has got the wrong view man. We’re looking right at that ass. There’s that blond again! The Student Travel department knows how to get its attendees.
The City of San Fernando, Pampanga will end the Pyestang Tugak: 5th Annual San Fernando Frog Festival later today. This event is extra special to me since I organized the first one way back in 2003. Frogs are a unique part of Pampanga culinary traditions. And by organizing the festival, the city is ensuring that these traditions are preserved and promoted. There is a traditional way of catching frogs called paduasan. In the early days, when the rains came, while the elders where busy planting rice, kids would catch frogs. This game eventually evolved into a specialized technique and skill. Catchers use a bamboo rod called the paduas. And at the end of the string, they attach a type of worm called bulateng tudtud or sleeping worm. Once the frog bites, its tongue get entangled with the worm, and the catcher is able to hurl it up in the air and lets it fall into a net called panyapu. It was a common sight to see people lined-up on top of the pilapil or rice paddies with a paduas in one hand
TYPICAL REVIEW"If you’re a huge fan of cheesy ‘Nature vs. Man’ flicks, this one is for you. For anyone looking for something not featuring tons of slimy reptiles and amphibians, look elsewhere." - Scott Weinberg, Apollo Movie GuideTHE PLOTRugged outdoorsy photographer Pickett Smith is cruising in his (non-gas powered) canoe taking snapshots of swamp animals and leaky pipes for an unnamed ecology magazine. (Ya think maybe this is our hero?) Before Pickett knows what is going on, he is capsized by a (obnoxiously loud gas-powered) speedboat driven by two of the Crockett siblings whose family just happens to own the waters the photographer has been exploring. Pickett is fished out and taken to the Crockett island estate where the über-dysfunctional family is gathering for their annual 4th of July (oh, the dripping irony) celebration. As Pickett is something of an ecology expert, he is almost immediately grilled by the Crockett's about the increasing number of abnormally large frogs
Japanese scientists are claiming a breakthrough after breeding the world's first see-through frogs.
Brilliant, because I don't know about you, but I'm always moaning that my frogs aren't letting in enough light.
It was a break through at Hiroshima University.
Did they really have to do any research there, or did the frog just mutate on its own.
And don't you think scientists might be a little embarrassed when they go to the annual general meeting of the scientists and that's all they have to show?
They go through the list, asking if anyone present has had a break through they've been...

Four mutant frogs with gold skin and red eyes, found by children in a grassy field in the town of Shimanto in Kochi prefecture, have gone on display at the nearby Shimanto River Gakuyukan science center. According to a center spokesperson who says the golden specimens are highly unusual, the 2.4-centimeter (almost 1-inch) amphibians appear to be black-spotted pond frogs (Pelophylax nigromaculata, a.k.a. Rana nigromaculata) whose skin turned gold because of an albino mutation that prevents the formation of pigment cells. (more)From Pink Tentacle. This story reminds my of the work being done by the Russian artist Dmitry Bulatov. I was fortunate to be in the RESURFACING Exhibition earlier in the year at Ohio State with him. He displayed at the exhibition his work on genetically engineering tadpole appearances by making them fluorescent colors. Below is an example of one of his tadpoles:Static form of chimerical design of Xenopus laevis tadpole.
I cannot exactly see the attraction of watching frogs, but Mum and Dad enjoy spending hours by the side of the pond, shrieking with delight when the slimy green chaps jump off a rock. I suppose it is nice to see how much they can grow in just a few weeks. They start off as little tadpoles no bigger than a dog's claw, and then they turn into croaking green monsters bigger than a dog's paw!
OK, something is wonky with this site. I think it is in the template, but am not sure. I'll see if I can figure it out, but in the meantime, if you know, please drop me a note.Hmmm...got rid of the frogs which took the rounded corners and sunflowers. No big deal. And Adsense. Also not a huge deal. I can live with this for now.Ok, why do the ads display when I click on an entry, but not on the homepage? I must have deleted something in the code...One day I will give up on fiddling my template. I'll either stumble upon exactly what I want, or I'll give up. The latter may take a LONG time, however, since I'm not one to give up easily. For the moment, since I am giving up for today, I thought I better attribute the above image:http://www.freefoto.com/index.jspIt may change again, but that is where I got it from.
I really do love WordPress.
A short while back, I’d promised to have something up here about that. After the snafu yesterday with the sidebar problems, I was so impressed I knew that come hell or high water… er, neither rain nor sleet nor… regardless of my stupid back problem that makes it bloody impossible to sit, stand or lie down, I needed to get that “thing” up here.
Honestly, the staff at WordPress is truly phenomenal. Within minutes of sending the feedback yesterday, they were not only on the problem but had sent email acknowledging it… email apologizing for the problem.
Flabbergasted, I am.
In a world where you can’t go through a drive-thru and actually get your order right; in a world where even when you phone and speak with a Manager/Assistant Manager/Supervisor/Owner’s Cat, you can’t get anyone to care about the shoddy service or product you received, the staff at WordPress care.

Frogs rain down on Serbia Traffic came to a halt and locals fled inside after thousands of frogs fell from the sky onto a Serbian village. Residents in Odzaci told local daily Blic they thought the world was coming to an end. Aleksandar Ciric said: "I saw all these small frogs just start raining down. There were thousands of them." Another villager, Caja Jovanovic, added: "This huge 'cloud' seemed to come out of nowhere and its shape and colour looked very strange. "We were all wondering what it was when suddenly frogs started to fall from the sky. I thought maybe a plane carrying frogs had exploded in midair." But climatology expert Slavisa Ignjatovic said there was a simple scientific explanation for the incident. He said: "A whirlwind has sucked up the frogs from a lake, the sea or some other body of water somewhere else and carried them along to Odzaci where they have fallen to the ground. It is a recognised scientific phenomenon."feed

New York Times WASHINGTON, June 18 — Scientists from the Environmental Protection Agency say there is "sufficient evidence" to conclude that the country's most widely used pesticide, atrazine, causes sexual abnormality in frogs. They are recommending that the agency conduct more research to understand atrazine's mechanisms and its broader impact on frog populations. Popular Pesticide Faulted for Frogs' Sexual Abnormalities
The frogs are loose! They escaped to Charles County yesterday, where they parted company when a few decided to check out a couple of local restaurants. After learning french fries are not made from flies and that frog legs are a delicacy, they decided outside was better than inside.
The lifelike fishing lures in a sporting goods shop were also an attraction, and a local learning center looked like a good place for frogs. Kids like frogs, right?!?
Anyway, I hope they find a happy home. They’ve been good company in the studio, and I’m going to miss their silly grins.
Now, stop reading this blog and go find your frog!

I was disturbed to read today that the frogs from the Tasek Chini were no longer singing. They have practically disappeared. This may not seemed strange to you, in fact, you may not have any idea where Tasek Chini is . After all, it "was" a beautiful large mass of freshwater lake in the tropical forests of Malaysia. It "was" because it now no longer is beautiful as it was, with pollution levels reportedly 56 times higher than is considered healthy, and worse, this is right inside the tropical jungle. The frogs are not the only ones disappearing. The fishes, cobras, pythons are also diminishing in numbers. Weeds called the "Cat's Tail" have proliferated, snuffing out important sunlight that would allow organisms to grow. This is worrying enough for some concrete action to be taken to revive the ecosystem. In retrospect, how can action be taken to protect the environment, or a delicate ecosystem such as Tasek Chini, or any other lake in the world? Here at Tasek Chini I read about t
This is a man caught in a bubble, thoughtless of how his daily behaviour affects the climate.Once upon a time there was a frog which was dropped into water so hot that it leaped out, shocked - and saved itself. Later it was dropped into tepid water, which it found very pleasant. Then the water began to warm up, but only imperceptibly, so the frog remained lulled and relaxed, becoming more and more warm and sleepy ... until it was too late to escape, and it was boiled to death. Each year, the average car emits about three times its weight in carbon dioxide pollution - a leading cause of global warming.

Why don't these scientists just name the bone breaking frogs as bone brea
