Here's an FYI for any of you with children who like comic books. Today is Free Comic Book Day at participating retailers. A nice opportunity for your children (or you and the hubby) to pick up some of their favorite comic books.
At select locations, some of the different comic book creators from a variety of publishers will make special appearances.

This Free Comic Book Day selection is a taste from the graphic novel about a 10-year-old Harry Houdini who's forced to travel with a gang of circus performers.
It's Lucky again, and I hate it when Deej or Snuffles sit around reading comic books and don't talk to me or even forget to feed me and don't do the housework or the cooking or help around here at all. It's a good thing I have Phenny and Frederick or this place would be a mess.Anyway, Deej and Snuffles are sure to be out of it this Saturday, because Saturday is Free Comic Book Day (which you can read about here), when many bookstores give away free comics as a promotion.I thought I could escape the event this year because the Shady Bookstore Down the Street had closed its doors, but as it turns out, it immediately opened its doors again at another location and became the Shady Bookstore a Little Further Down the Street.
May 3, 2008 is Free Comic Book Day 2008 at participating comic book stores around the US. Many (if not most) comic book specialists will be participating, but you should stop by your favorite outlet and ask if they will take part. Everyone who shows up at a participating store will get a free comic book, and many stores will have other cool stuff to give away as well if the 2007 Free Comic Book Day is any indication.

In 2002, simultaneous to the weekend Spider-Man dropped, the American comics industry launched an experiment: Free Comic Book Day, in which thousands of comic book stores throughout the nation gave away special issued comics. Its been successful enough to become an annual tradition, and this Saturday, May 5, marks the sixth Free Comic Book Day. Tomorrow is Free Comic Book Day, the annual event where participating comic book shops offer to the public designated comic book titles for FREE!
There are 43 free books being offered this year, though keep in mind, not every shop will be supplying all the books available. The freebies will most likely be housed in a designated area of the store and will have the FCBD logo printed on the covers. There is a limited number of free titles available per person, determined by the individual shop owners.
