Time for my second photo from Frankfurt, this time it's the skyline as viewed during the day. There was something about Frankfurt that I really loved, I think it may have been the striking contrast between new and old buildings, with small historic buildings surround by huge glass and steel skyscrapers.
Next up is another picture taken last year (10th March 2007), whilst in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Frankfurt has more skyscrapers than any other European city, giving it a fantastic skyline. I took quite a few pictures whilst I was there, so expect more to get featured in the not too distant future.

Sinn has created a mechanically winding chronograph in a smaller 34.5mm case size that is built to the same standards as the popular 6000 Frankfurt Finance series. The Sinn 6030 features an internally rotating bezel to use as a second time zone indication through a crown at 10. The watch houses the ETA 2094, the smallest automatically winding chronograph movement in current production. The modular chronograph movement is nicely finished with Côtes de Genève, perlage, and blued screws. The watch features a polished stainless steel case, a deep matte black dial with rhodium plated applied silver markers, white luminous hands and antireflective sapphire crystals on both sides. Three of the birds' heads had been torn from their bodies and a fourth bird had been strangled, zoo officials said.

Information World Review - in a further report from the Frankfurt Book Fair - reports that Wiley Chairman Peter Wiley and Stephen Smith, Wiley senior VP for Europe & International Development, are claiming that textbooks will soon be available digitally and that publishers will "drive the adoption of e-book readers". Stephen Smith noted that e-Book Readers are the key to the success of electronic text books. Is this textbooks on every student's personal reader (something I've been forecasting for a while)? "We may have to try to influence the tipping point of eBook readers," Smith said. "The ability of government and teachers to keep pace with technology is difficult. Anything that comes along to help learning is critical, and it is important that publishers play a part."Meanwhile TeleRead notes that 44% of 'biz pros' (whatever they are?!) surveyed at Frankfurt identified the use of e-books as a key area of growth for the industry. So that's pretty good news from Frankfurt for

Holbein's Restaurant im Städel Holbeinstraße 1 60596 Frankfurt, GermanyTel: + 49 69 6605 6666
Date of Last Visit: Sunday, October 7
The Victims: Too many to mention.
The Damage: Unknown!
The Background: I haven't been to Germany since 2003. Kinda scary how time flies. So I was excited to go to Frankfurt, although it ended up being one of those trips where I didn't see much besides for the Flughafen, two taxis, and the hotel.
Ah yes, and the very lovely Holbein's Restaurant im Städel of course. Although it was dark by the time we got there, so I really didn't see much of the restaurant--from the outside, that is. I got the sense that we were in a museum. And I think I am at least partially right.
The Entrance: This is a big group dinner, so we are greeted with glasses of Proseco, and who doesn't love a nice glass of Proseco? There is a receiving line, somewhat akin to a wedding, which we think is funny. The servers are funny too and they love my rusty German--particula
Aston DBS: So pretty it hurtsI'm only now getting around to getting my head around all the launches that took place at the Frankfurt Auto Show - it's been a busy couple of weeks! There seemed to be two main themes running through this year's iteration of the event: On the one hand, we had a rake of prestigious performance cars, while at the same time all the manufacturers were attempting to outdo each other in the 'green' stakes: Renault/Nissan head honcho Carlos Ghosn gave a speech saying that climate change posed the biggest technical and financial challenge for the global car industry in the 21st century. Offerings from Ford and Kia in this area were particularly interesting - instead of using hybrid systems or biofuels, they push traditional diesel technology as far as it will go, with impressive gains in fuel economy and CO2 figures.Stripped VeyronBut no environmenal breakthrough is ever going to rival the thrill of the supercar. - British writer Will Hutton has written a great piece about the dire state of English football and how foreign ownership is endangering the sport there. Here's an excerpt:"(Gordon) Brown will give Platini short shrift. When a draft EU report on football (commissioned by Britain!) dared to float similar ideas, a Brown spokesman said he would not allow England's national game to be run by Brussels, a line deemed to play well in the Eurosceptic tabloids. So, instead, it can be run by a murky crew of the footloose global rich, already salivating at the prospect of breaking free from tiresome Uefa and even national leagues, instead mounting show games between their debt-burdened clubs in global tours, modelled on rock concerts and sponsored by multinationals."The last part is awfully reminiscent of Beckham-mania.- Surprisingly, one of the more popular clubs in Asia is Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt, the reason being that they feature three Asian stars and also for once being the cl
Honda Presents The Accord Tourer Concept and i-DTEC, The Next-Generation Clean Diesel Engine Technology, At The Frankfurt Motor Show 2007.
The premiere of the Accord Tourer Concept provides a strong indication of the design direction of the all-new generation Accord Tourer set to debut in mid-2008. The wider, lower look signals a sportier, more emotional styling approach, and while the design of the current Accord Tourer maximises its load-carrying capability, the new model goes for smarter, sleeker proportions while retaining a strong degree of versatility and practicality. The Concept’s greater width makes for a more spacious cabin and also allows an increased track for enhanced handling characteristics.
The all-new Honda Accord range will boast one of the first all-Euro 5-compliant engine line-ups which will consist of two i-VTEC petrol engines of 2.0 and 2.4-litre capacities and a newly developed 2.2-litre i-DTEC next-generation diesel engine. Compared to the current Accor
2007 Frankfurt Auto Show spy shots: Audi ups the power ante by adding a couple of turbos to the S6's 5.2-litre V10 to create the 572bhp RS6.It was no secret that Audi was planning a twin-turbocharged version of its V10 engine for the RS6. But what is surprising is just how much more power the Audi RS6 develops over its obvious German rivals - 572bhp to be exact, some 50-60bhp more than its Mercedes AMG E63 and BMW M5 wagon alternatives.Unlike that pair, the RS6 should be able to use its prodigious grunt more often, even in less than perfect conditions. That's due to the RS6's quattro four-wheel drive drivetrain. So while the AMG Mercedes and BMW M5 Touring drivers wrestle their cars off the line with more smoke and flashing lights than a mobile disco, the RS6 should be on its way to recording its 0-62mph time of 4.6 seconds.Keep that right hand pedal buried to the floor and the RS6 will blast up to 124mph in just 14.9 seconds, its relentless quest for the horizon only halted when th
While controversy reigned briefly last week at the China Automobile stand, Brilliance, the other Chinese auto maker at the 2007 Frankfurt motor show, quietly continued to tick all the right boxes.
Following a well-received launch at Geneva in March, Brilliance has now started selling cars in Europe and launched a fourth new model, the BS2, at Frankfurt.
The company has also overcome its first setback - a poor showing in crash testing for its first model, the BS6 sedan. This gained only one EuroNCAP star but Brilliance has rectified the situation by ordering a rapid redesign. Independent tests suggest the car will now gain three stars, something that pleased Hans-Ulrich Sachs, head of Brilliance’s European distributor HSO Motors Europe.
Sachs knows the car business - he launched Hyundai in Germany in 1991, he’s been a senior brand manager for Volkswagen, and he’s been CEO of Germany’s largest Ford dealer. Brilliance is BMW’s assembler in China, and signed
2007 Frankfurt Motor Show Spy shot series: Nissan Corp. Nissan has hinted at its future intentions with details of a shorter, lower take on the small city run-around, to be shown at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show. Aimed at younger drivers and based on a production chassis, the Mixim concept weighs 950kg and features some design features normally associated with supercars.
Inside, the concept has a seat layout as found on the McLaren F1, with the driver positioned centrally and two heavily sculpted passenger seats either side. The car also boasts gull-wing doors which, although unlikely to ever make production - as is the car itself (according to Nissan) - still look the part. The Mixim has several ‘diamond’-shaped design cues found on air intakes toward the rear and the impractical yet entirely concept-like rear windows.
Nissan has also fitted two ‘Super Motors’ to drive the front and rear axles, making the car four-wheel drive; most likely a technological exerci

Kia unveiled the KEE Concept at the Frankfurt Auto Show. The design held some suspense before its reveal as the head designer responsible for the car was ex-Audi designer, Peter Schreyer. The KEE, a 2+2 coupe that has its chances of making it into production, is the
Mercedes-Benz unveiled the F700 Concept at the Frankfurt Auto Show. While it packs the beautiful design, the real head-turner is the powertrain inside the car. Mazda is celebrating 40 years of putting engines inspired by pony kegs in their cars by rolling out a special version of the RX-8 2+2. Mazda's official hyperbole about the RX-8 brags that the car changed customer expectations of what an affordable sports car should be when they launched the four-place coupe in 2003. There's also new ten-spoke wheels, blue tinged foglamps, and the obligatory emblems to dress up t
2007 Frankfurt Motor Show spy shots series: Bentley Continental GT .
It’s not as though the ’standard’ Bentley Continental GT is underpowered - far from it. But Bentley has seen fit to enhance the car’s specification further, offering a new ‘Speed’ model with 600bhp from its W12 engine.
Bentley’s Chairman and CEO, Dr Franz Josef-Paefgen, speaks modestly of the new model, but must be just as excited as the rest of us: “The Continental GT is a modern-day Bentley icon. The new GT Speed, with its harder-edged character and sportier driving experience, builds on this success.”
The GT Speed is said to be inspired by the ‘Speed’ models first introduced nearly 85 years ago. Even then, W.O. Bentley, the company’s founder, knew there would be no shortage of takers for a very high performance derivative of a successful existing model - that hasn’t changed, even if the owners have.
Bentley’s latest model retains t
2007 Frankfurt Motor Show Lamborghini stand spy shot: Limited Lamborghini Reventon Supercar making a premiere debut as the all star of Frankfurt Auto Show 2007.Once you've finished dribbling over the sheer aggressive beauty of the Lamborghini Reventon, you'll want to know more about it. Shedding light on the F22 Raptor fighter jet-inspired supercar, Lamborghini told us it will share the same basic powerplant as the Murcielago LP640, but the 6.5-litre V12 will have 10bhp more, taking it to a massive 641bhp produced at 8,000rpm.Not one to ever slow a car down, Lamborghini has made the car completely out of carbon fibre except the roof and doors, so expect electric straight-line performance helped by Lambo's unaltered e-gear paddle shift transmission.Outright performance though, was never at the top of the agenda. Lamborghini has used the Reventon to test a production process that sees a car go from sketch to showroom much quicker by cutting out the road-testing of full-scale models, r

hybrid in its class.
Its innovative two-mode hybrid system means it can be driven with just the electric engine; and the vehicle meets the highest expectations in terms of comfort. The V6 petrol engine produces 205 kW/279 hp and 338 Newton metres of torque, while the two-mode hybrid module with two electric motors, develops 45 kW/61 hp. The end result is a combined system output of 236 kW/321 hp and a combined maximum torque of 480 Newton metres – supreme performance that comes with a fuel consumption of just 7.7 litres per 100 kilometres. The ML 450 Hybrid thus achieves CO2 emissions that are exemplary for this class of vehicle of just 185 grams per kilometre.
Toyota has an answer to every vehicle in the market. Now, you can add the undoubtedly unique Smart to the list. Toyota unveiled the super-mini IQ Concept at the Frankfurt Auto Show. Toyota has confirmed an ultra-compact car to be released in the next two years.

Volkswagen unveiled the 2008 Tiguan at the Frankfurt Auto Show. Aimed at the Honda CR-V, Volkswagen is slowly approaching the would-be Toyota/Honda consumers rather than the higher German class. The Tiguan is slotted below the Touareg in the line-up.
The Tiguan was previewed by the Tiguan Concept shown last year at Los Angeles. Changes are subtle and the Tiguan expresses ruggedness and elegance,
Ferrari made quite a splash in Frankfurt, bringing out Michael Schumacher and the other corporate bigwigs to show off its newest model. While we were entirely focused on the debut of the awesome new Ferrari F430 Scuderia, the Italian company had other news to share in Frankfurt. It was easy to miss with all the hoopla surrounding its new weekend warrior model, the Maranello carmaker also had a representative of every other model in the current lineup. And to make things even more interesting, a few of the cars were sporting some rather interesting color combinations on their swoopy sheetmetal.
Amidst the countless tuner displays gracing the Frankfurt Messe, one vehicle caught the attention of our lens and caused the hairs on the back of our necks to stand at attention. The Novitec Ferrari F430 TuNero, swathed in matte black from its body to its brake calipers, is pure evil incarnate, and it's got the motivation to match.Sporting a duo of race-ready superchargers, air-to-water intercoolers, a revised intake system, individual oil coolers, new fuel injectors and a host of other mods, the TuNero puts out 707 HP at 8,350 RPM and 525 lb.-ft. of torque at 6,300 RPM. 62 comes up in 3.5 seconds and Novitec claims that a top speed of 216 MPH is easily within reach.
While many of the debuts in Frankfurt garnered either a decisive positive or negative reaction, the Peugeot 308 RC Z Coupe Concept held the middle ground. The front end is almost a direct carryover from the 308 on which it's based, but we couldn't help but want a bit more individuality and a bit less gaping maw. From the side, all we can see is Karmann Ghia, along with John's earlier assertion that the roofline apes the Audi TT.Something like the RC Z could come to production since it's essentially a re-bodied 308, and with a 218 HP 1.6-liter blown four pot, you won't hear any arguments from this side of the pond – regardless of the fact that it'll never come our way.

Frankfurt has a reputation in the automotive world as a something of a techno showcase. The wildest offering was the F700 concept, which may qualify as Best of Show despite polarizing reactions to it. A sort of Mini-meets-"Minority Report," the Citroën C-Cactus is at once provocative and appealing. There was no word on whether the diesel-electric hybrid drive would actually make it into production.Citroëns have not been sold in the United States for decades; one look at the C-Cactus and you can see why not.The Mixim was Nissan's latest of many recent nonfunctional auto show design studies. An all-electric vehicle, the Mixim would be powered by something called a Super Motor, which was not installed in the Frankfurt show model.Hyundai may actually use the platform of its i-Blue design study for future crossovers, but its advertised 100-kilowatt electric motor, powered by a fuel cell, is probably as fanciful for the near future as it was in this concept.Toyota said that it actually p
This is a tantalising glimpse of the future of Land Rover. The Solihull-based company yesterday gave a brief showing at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show of a 'baby Land Rover' which, if given the green light, could be rolling off the assembly lines in four years.A 32-second film showed the silhouette of the SUV, which will be smaller than the current Freelander or the Discovery, as it pulled out of a car park. Slightly bigger than a BMW Mini, it resembled a Range Rover Sport but smaller. It is thought a concept is now being developed, part of the company's response to concerns over fuel efficiency and carbon emissions. The preview came as Geoff Polites, chief executive of Jaguar-Land Rover, said Ford's sale of the two Midland-based luxury marques could help fund a new generation of models.Speaking at the62th International Automotive Show in Frankfurt, at which Jaguar unveiled its new XF sports saloon, he said the companies had attractive products already under development and more could

BMW unveiled its first iteration of a SUV/Coupe (call it SAV whatever) at the Frankfurt Auto Show yesterday. Turbocharging continues in the new Saab Turbo X high-technology model, which made its debut at the first press day of the Frankfurt auto show. Before all the performance parts were developed, turbocharging was the concern for Saab. It all began exactly 30 years ago, at exactly the same place, when the first Saab 99 Turbo model was presented to the world media at the 1977 Frankfurt auto show.
At that time Saab was alone in pursuing turbocharging as a reliable and realistic means of extracting more power and efficiency from a production engine. Saab’s success over the next three decades shows that imitation is, indeed the sincerest form of flattery — there are now few manufacturers who do not offer turbocharged models.
That’s because the attractions of turbocharging are even more seductive today than they were three decades ago. It is the key to what Saab calls ‘rightsizing’. Less is more. A turbocharged engine is lighter, smaller and more fuel efficient than a non-turbo,
Alongside the new Laguna and Laguna Coupe Concept, Renault has unveiled the Kangoo Compact Concept at the Frankfurt Auto Show yesterday. The Kangoo Compact Concept is coated with a two-tone paint of Fireball Orange and Brushed Aluminum.

Mazda has unveiled its totally redesign mid-size sedan, the 6. It is available in three bodystyles including a sedan, hatchback and a wagon, just like its predecessor. The 6 grows in every dimension: 65mm longer, 15mm wider, 5mm taller, and a 50mm longer wheelbase on the sedan and the hatchback.

Alongside the C-Class Estate, Mercedes-Benz will be unveiling the C63 AMG Estate. Essentially the high-performance variant of its conventional sibling, the C63 AMG Estate packs the same engine as its four-door counterpart. The naturally aspirated 6.3L V8 produces a whopping 457 horsepower, which propels the wagon from 0 to 60mph in 4.6 seconds. Its top speed is electronically limited to 155mph.
Volkswagen has unveiled the first iteration of their upcoming rear-engined city car. The Up! Concept brings flexibility, practicality, and the economy of a city car, with style. The Up! seats four people and its dimensions are pretty roomy for a car this size: 3.45 meters in length and 1.63 meters in width. The engine sits at the rear and does so for the first time since the original Beetle was
As Frankfurt is bound to start any minute now, we bring you the belated information on Audi's most significant unveiling at the show, the RS6 Avant. The A4 can be argued to take that position any day, but did we mention that it has 580 horsepower? The RS6 Avant is powered by a V10 engine with FSI direct injection and twin-turbochargers. The RS6 can propel itself to 62mph in 4.6 seconds. In other
Mercedes will debut F700 with DiesOtto engine at the Frankfurt Motor Show Mercedes is bringing the green to the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show with their new sedan concept car, the F700. Remember that DiesOtto engine that we told you about a while back? It's making its debut in this new luxury sedan. To refresh your memory, that engine produces 238hp and 295ft-lb. of torque from just 1.8 liters of displacement using some new technology known to many as homogeneous charge compression ignition, or HCCI, which "operates in compression ignition mode under light loads and spark ignition at other times" according to our own Sam Abuelsamid. The fuel mileage of the car with the DiesOtto engine is expected to be almost 40 miles per gallon, which is excellent for such a large vehicle. The new F700 concept is just one of 18 vehicles that Mercedes is expected to showcase, including new Bluetec diesels and hybrids with both gasoline and diesel engines.
Frankfurt Preview: Mercedes S300 HybridClick to enlargeAmong the seven new hybrid models that Mercedes-Benz will be displaying at next week's Frankfurt Motor Show is this S300 hybrid. The S300 has a four cylinder Bluetec diesel (probably the latest 2.2L) that, combined with the hybrid system, has an output of 224 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque. A full-size luxury sedan running at 43.6 mpg is certainly nothing to sneeze at. The best part is that this car could be Tier 2 Bin 5 compliant so it could be fifty-state legal in the US market. We don't know if it has the Two-Mode hybrid or the mild hybrid system that Mercedes is developing with BMW. We'll find out soon enough.
Frankfurt Preview: Mercedes-Benz ML450 Two-Mode HybridClick to enlargeFollowing on the heels of General Motors and Chrysler earlier this year, Mercedes-Benz will be showing their first Two-Mode hybrid application next week in Frankfurt. Like its partners, Mercedes will be putting the system into an SUV, in this case the ML450. The combined output of the ML will be 340 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque. Combined fuel efficiency should be 30.5 mpg (US).They haven't specified which gas engine will be used although the output seems to imply a V-6 of about 3.5L. If that's the case they will be following the Lexus nomenclature practice of numbering their hybrids with the equivalent gas engine output (450 being comparable to a 4.5L V-8). The ML450 is scheduled to go on sale in 2009.

2007 Frankfurt Auto Show cars preview series: Mercedes SLR McLaren Roadster. Driving an “object” valued four-hundred-and-sixty thousand Euro. How many times something like that happen in life?

On the Romagna circuit the new Mercedes-Benz Slr McLaren debuts (two months before the 2007 Frankfurt International Motor Show, 62th IAA ) alongside the limited 722 Edition, a gift to the 1955 affirmation at “Mille Miglia. The name refers to the time the race begun that day.
It’s a very exclusive model. In Italy only two models of the 722 racing car will be delivered. The cost is prohibitive, but performances are shocking: it does not start, it take off (as metaphor, while in reality is very grounded to the street). Its acceleration is like a rolling. Even the doors’ opening, that recall the seag
The Renault Laguna Coupe Concept is expecting to be unveiled at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show next Tuesday. It’s based on the new Laguna platform that’s already spawned a Laguna sedan.
We are going to see the production version of the sedan in person for the first time in Frankfurt Auto Show 2007, and the Coupe Concept, which is also likely headed for production, will be right beside it.
There’s no official press release from Renault yet, so we can’t tell you details like power and fuel economy numbers about this Laguna coupe concept, but we can comment on the car’s design. The Laguna Coupe Concept sports extremely clean sheetmetal with character lines that flow uninterrupted around the whole vehicle. The surface detail is subtle but there, hidden by the color of the car until revealed by a contrast of light and shadow.
No doubt a simple design, the Laguna Coupe Concept is still refreshing in its minimalism. One could argue, however, that it’s also
The 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show is a strange place for the unveiling of a biofuel powered American muscle car but that in fact will be the case when Germany’s FourMotor presents its new BioConcept Mustang GT RTD at next week’s 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show.
Though labelled a concept, the car has been raced in the Nürburgring 24-hour endurance race by former DTM driver Thomas von Löwis and is scheduled to continue competing long after the Frankfurt show closes its doors.
Powering the car is a 280hp (206kW) 2.0L four-banger developing maximum torque of 500Nm on pure bio-diesel, which is enough for it to reach a top speed of 245km/h. The car’s chassis is based on a Ford Mustang but the panels have been replaced with a new plastic shell derived from natural plant fibers developed in co-operation with Germany’s center for air and space travel.
Also on display will be a bio-diesel Volkswagen Beetle that was tested doing speeds of up to 230km/h around the Nürburgring.

Hyundai will be making three unveilings at next week's 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show, two of them are new and the other is something we've seen before. The highlight ofHyundai's stands will undoubtedly be the new hydrogen-powered i-Blue crossover concept. The i-Blue Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle is hydrogen-powered and forms part of the zero-emission concept of vehicles which is to incorporate the third-generation of Hyundai’s fuel cell technology. The i-Blue is a step forward with the commercialization of Hyundai fuel cell vehicles, as they used to be on the SUV platform but is now to be featured on a CUV. Hyundai are very proud of the new i-Blue as it is their first vehicle with fuel cell technology that has been designed from the ground up. Although the design is more compact, Hyundai have still made the i-Blue both comfortable and safe.

Due for unveiling at Frankfurt next month, Mercedes-Benz pulled the wraps off the 2008 C-Class Estate. The styling is very attractive for a wagon and it seems red goes really nicely with them (circa Holden VE Wagon). The C-Class Estate boasts the largest load capacity in its class, at 1500 liters. The Estate also features an optional "EASY-PACK" tailgate, which essentially is a power tailgate.
No, this is not the S4 folks. Audi has unleashed the official details and images on the 2009 A4 S-Line Package. The S-Line Package adds nearly all the visual cues of the S4, but at a lower price than the real deal. The S-Line Package adds no performance upgrades. However, that's not to say that we simply adore the more aggressive look and we'd like one in white like the studio shots.
