"Frank Miller has spent as much time as Lex Luthor studying heroes. So I ask him to explain what he’s learned. In a long, intense, often prickly conversation, Miller gradually divulges his hero’s identity. As he does, his protagonists slowly come into focus, stomping out from the shadows of noir, the fog of war, and the black nights of Gotham and Sin City. Below, the 10 rules of the Frank Mill
It’s been a long day yesterday. So I figured I’d start with something light and straight to the point.

Martha Washington is one of Frank Millers independently published works.
The story is set in a dystopian near-future where the United States have split into several extremist factions, and tells the story of Martha Washington, a young African American girl from a ghetto called “The Green”. The series starts with Martha’s birth and sees her slowly grow up from someone struggling to break free of the ghetto, to being a war hero and major figure in deciding the fate of the United States.
The series was a mix of Miller’s typical action sequences as well as being a political satire of the United States and its major corporations. The series proved to be a huge success for Dark Horse and was one of the biggest selling independent comics of the time. A trade paperback was later released and Miller followed up Give Me Liberty with several sequels continuing the story. All of these sequels were drawn by Dave Gibbons and published by Dark Horse. Samuel L. Jackson has be signed on to play the part of The Octopus in Frank Miller’s (Sin City, 300) adaptation of Will Eisner’s comic “The Spirit”. The story follows Denny Colt, a young cop who is murdered in the line of duty then is mysteriously reincarnated as the masked crime fighting mystery man known as the Spirit. The Octopus, who is the Spirit’s nemesis, is a lab assistant who reinvents himself as a psychotic nightmare that kills anyone unfortunate enough to see his face. If this is anything like Frank’s previous work you can expect lots of shootin’, blood, and plain ol’ ass kickin’, just my type of movie…

It was mentioned some time ago that good ol' Miller would work on this, and now, here's some news in Variety (via Rope of Silicon) that he's going to work on the movie adaptation of Will Eisner's famous adventure comic strip with director Robert Rodriguez. I wish them well with it.
Frank Miller to Write, Direct ‘Spirit’
Frank Miller has written the script and will direct The Spirit, based on the Will Eisner comic book series about a man who fakes his own death so he can secretly fight crime.

In a new interview with Frank Miller in the Los Angeles Times (registration required), he minces no words in making clear what the problem is with today's Hollywimps, and comics publishers too (Hat tip: Michelle Malkin): MUCH has been made of Miller's politics in the wake of "300." The deliriously violent and stylized sword film is based on a Spartan battle in 480 B.C., and although Miller wrote and drew the story for Dark Horse comics a decade ago, in film form it was received by many as a grotesque parody of the ancient Persians and a fetish piece for a war on Islam. Miller scoffs at those notions. "I think it's ridiculous that we set aside certain groups and say that we can't risk offending their ancestors. Please. I'd like to say, as an American, I was deeply offended by 'The Last of the Mohicans.'"Still, Miller gets stirred up about any criticism of the war in Iraq or the hunt for terrorists, which he views as the front in a war between the civilized Western world and blood

300 is a graphic novel, written and illustrated by Frank Miller with painted colors by Lynn Varley. The comic loosely depicts the Battle of Thermopylae and the events
leading up to it from the perspective of Leonidas I, king of Sparta. The comic was particularly inspired by the 1962 film, The 300 Spartans, a movie that Miller watched as a young boy.
Every page of the comic was illustrated as a double-page spread. When the series was gathered into hardcover form, the individual pages were twice as wide as a normal comic. Miller’s art style for this project was similar to his Sin City work, although the addition of consistent color is an obvious difference.
300 was initially published as a monthly five-issue comic book series by Dark Horse Comics, the first issue published in May 1998. The issues were titled Honor, Duty, Glory, Combat and Victory. The series won three Eisner Awards in 1999″ “Best Limited Series”, “Best Writer/Artist” for Frank Miller
In the ancient Battle of Thermopylae, King Leonidas and 300 Spartans fought to the death against Xerxes and his massive Persian army. Facing insurmountable odds, their valor and sacrifice inspire all of Greece to unite against their Persian enemy, drawing a line in the sand for democracy.
Starring: Vincent Regan, Gerard Butler, Peter Mensah, Lena Headey by IMDB
Frank Miller
Little Green Footballs has an audio recording of Frank Miller's newest commentary on NPR (Hat tip: Hot Air). And I'm glad to have bought the first of three trade compilations of his work on Daredevil from the early 1980s.Rob at Say Anything blog has some more thoughts on Miller.
