iPhone Going French, France Telecom Aims at 100,000 iPhone Sales by end of 2007
This upcoming Thursday, the iPhone is being released in France. The iPhone will also sell as an unlocked unit, just like in Germany, though at a surposedly lower price. Didier Lumbard, France Telecom’s CEO, said “The target is a little under 100,000 sold by the end of the year,” and that the iPhone will be considerably cheaper than Germany’s 999 Euros, or $1500 USD. The iPhone, Lumbard hinted, will be around 399 Euros with the two year contract. Also mentioned was that the contract would start at 49 Euros a month, with two hours of talk-time and 50 SMS texts included - with a 4.50 Euro increase per month for the 12 month term. Back online, no thanks to France Telecom
After nearly two weeks of no ADSL, we’re finally back online, at least for the moment. We’ve been calling France Telecom every day over that time and every day it’s a a different answer. At the start of the two weeks, the noise on the line was so bad that we couldn’t hear the guy on the fault reporting line so ended up having to call them from another phone. Result? We’ve tested your line and it’s perfect. Emmm, we can’t hear anyone when they call as there’s so much noise on the line. No, it’s perfect. Next day. Testing… yes, there’s a problem. We’ll send someone out. Two days later nobody and no working line so we call again. No, we’ve tested it: there’s nothing wrong. Several more attempts and we actually had someone come out. Ah, there was oxidation on the contacts, that’s why it wasn’t working. Well, that sort-of fixed the phone. We can usually hear people now but still the ADSL wasn&rs

REGULATION://France Telecom and the art of politics
The Bells did it before. Deutsche Telekom used the instrument to put pressure on the new Merkel government. And now France Telecom resorts to extortion. Didier Lombard, CEO, threatens to divert investments to Asian manufacturers, should the EC finalize international roaming rate cuts. Furthermore, if Asian companies are cheaper too, why not buy from them anyway?
