Just before we delete this temporary post, we are pleased to report that we have now fixed the site formatting issues readers will have experienced earlier due to our style sheet becoming corrupted (and us having not taken a backup of said file - we really ought to know better). The necessary repairs took a little longer for those loading the site via Firefox on account of the fact that its rather less forgiving of certain issues than IE (which will attempt to correct certain coding errors - thought we prefer to call them oversights lol). I just installed the WP-Syntax WordPress plugin for the last post. This was so I could have my sample Java code formatted and syntax highlighted in the post. Wow! I didn’t realize how bad it was going to be formatted. The plugin is nice and the syntax highlighting is good, but the code is formatted so that it runs off the page. Sorry… mah bad! This is probably due to the fact that it is in a <PRE> tag and so does not wrap any. You can still copy-n-paste the code from the blog entry to view it better. Sometimes copying from websites or odd applications leaves your text with strange formatting, links and spacing when you paste it into word or TextEdit. One way of clearing this up is using the Services menu, if your source application supports this. Start by selecting the text you want to copy, and going to Application Name -> Services -> Summarize. A new window will open and you will see a clean version of your text. Drag the slider to 100% so all your text is included, then copy to the clipboard and paste into your text editor.An alternative method, for when you are pasting into TextEdit, or if your source application doesn't support the services menu, is use the make plain text option. Paste your text into TextEdit and choose Format -> Make Plain Text (Command-Shift-T). This should strip most of the formatting, and to be on the safe side you can summarize the text as well.
