It was a while ago that I attended a speech at NCKU given by an American diplomat in Taiwan. The speech title was “An American Diplomat: A Life of Service in the Global Village” as part of an EAGLE lecture series “Envision the World”.
It was a very interesting speech, and I was quite impressed [...]
A release date for Sacha Baron Cohen’s Bruno [rest of title] has been set, and its a biggie! We will see a flamboyant Austrian Cohen creating uncomfortable situations with the American public on May 15th 2009. That week has been the release of the Shrek trilogy, all three Star Wars prequels, The Matrix Reloaded, and [...]
Opening a review of a London gig by berating London crowds would be as easy as repeatedly kicking a Radio 1 presenter in the face, so I'll take the novel approach of trying to find excuses for their static awkwardness.
Perhaps it's just that famed ... read more!

Many have used what I like to call the ‘foreigner-rescue-scenario’ as the primary reason why Arcadia and other cities in the San Gabriel Valley will be essentially immune from the housing crash. I happen to disagree and would be remiss if I simply dismissed it without a closer examination.
When kool-aid drinkers state [...]
In December of 2007, someone close to me was contacted by a company that had come across their resume on one of the large Internet job sites. They were contracted for a short-term project that ended in mid-January 2008. Toward the end of January, they were alerted by their bank (a very large commercial bank)
Ear infection in a third world country— emergency?
Hell no.
After waking up in the middle of a night with my ear making a solid attempt at exploding, I tried a bunch of different home remedies to no affect. So, without any other option, I headed off the the hospital recommended by the guy working at the [...]
Is a somewhat sensitive issue. Although nothing close to what I’ve seen in Thailand, there are some sensitivities in Taiwan, even at the rural city of Tainan. I’ve had a few triggers that brought this issue up this week. The last of them was this very peculiar post on Tainan Bulletin, the leading expat-foreigner board [...]
Dr Henry Jenkins, the Director of MIT Comparative Media Studies Programme and the Peter de Florez Professor of Humanities, visited Singapore sometime ago and blogged about his experiences after hearing much about Singapore’s work culture and in particular, three very distinct stories of Singaporean youth "misbehavior" on the blogging platform. His full blog post titled Singaporean Girls Gone Wild contains excerpts below: “Singapore is so known for its work ethic and sense of decorum that I have joked off and on about marketing a series of videos of Singaporean Girls Gone Wild which consisted of school girls in uniforms throwing peanut shells on the floor of the Raffles Hotel bar with wild abandon before returning to studying for their exams. After all, one of the first things that I ever learned about this country was that the law specified that one could be thrashed with a bamboo cane for chewing gum in public. My first impression then was something like that planet in Star Trek:
So much for Stephen Bridge's motto " Papworth is a very special place, made so by the extraordinary people who work, coach, teach and treat and are treated here everyday". Rather a bit like asking a very ill elderly doctor to go home and die. Isn't that what was said at Papworth? Clearly, for the dead, Papworth NHS Trust was not such a special place. Further media stories available here.Visitor in battle for transplant dies at 29A HEART patient from Nigeria who battled to win the right to a heart transplant at Papworth hospital has died.Ese Elizabeth Alabi was admitted to the hospital in March after becoming critically ill following heart failure, but doctors ruled she was not a priority patient as her visa had expired.Ms Alabi took her battle for the operation to the High Court where her lawyers argued she was the victim of an "unjustifiable and disproportionate" Government policy to deter "health tourism".But time ran out for the 29- year-old, who is believed to have fallen ill aft
Ten leper's met Jesus as he entered a village. Luke says the 10 kept their distance; calling out, Ἰησου̂ ἐπιστάτα, ἐλέησον ἡμα̂ς Jesus, master/leader be kind/merciful to us. Jesus saw them and responded. "Go to priest and show him that you are clean."
Luke says that on their way to the priest all ten were made clean. One came back thankful that he was cleansed of his disease. The other 9

As someone who does a lot of traveling overseas, I have become accostomed to finiding myself in situations where I cannot understand 100% of what is being said around me. Depending on where I am and the context in which I find myself, sometimes I understand most, but not all, while many other time I understand fifty percent or less. When you live like that for extended periods, you find yourself developing coping mechanisms. [read the full post at BlogSupergroup]
Yes, folks. Even the much-complimented Celina Jaitley can blush beetroot red at a fresh compliment. As the rest of her cast and crew discovered when she was shooting in New Zealand recently. “A foreigner saw her at a night club where the entire crew was present, and he was so besotted with her that he [...]
A foreigner asks an Indian about India. Check out the humourous answers!!!Q. You’re from India, aren’t you? I have read so much about the country. All the wonderful places, the forests, the snake charmers, the elephants. Do you still use elephants for transportation?A. Absolutely. In fact we used to have our own elephant. But later to save air, we started elephant-pooling with our neighbors, You see elephants have an “emissions” problem…..Q. Does India have cars?A. No. We ride elephants to work. The government is trying to encourage elephant-pooling schemes.Q. Does India have TV?A. No. We only have cable.Q. Are all Indians vegetarian?A. Yes. Even the tigers are vegetarian in India.Q. How come you speak English so well?A. You see when the British ruled India, they employed Indians as servants. Since it took too long for the Indians to learn English, the British isolated an “English-language” gene and implanted it into their servants’ babies and since then all babies born
As per a news item reported in economic times "The government on Thursday notified the enhancement of foreign direct investment (FDI) in telecom from 49% to 74%. All companies have been given three months time to comply with the revised norms and thereafter compliance reports will have to be submitted on a six-monthly basis. The notification follows the Union Cabinet’s approval of the 74% FDI cap in March, after over 18 months of dithering on the issue. While FDI up to 49% will continue to be on the automatic route, it would require the approval of the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) if the limit were to cross 49%. FIPB is also empowered to note that the investment is not coming from countries of concern or unfriendly entities, the government said in a statement. As reported earlier, the Cabinet when clearing the new guidelines had incorporated a series of additional norms, especially on the controversial issue of remote access (RA), to address the concerns of security and
Foreigner - “Waiting for a girl like you”Â
So long, Ive been looking too hard, Ive been waiting too long
Sometimes I dont know what I will find, I only know its a matter of time
When you love someone, when you love someone
It feels so right, so warm and true, I need to know if you feel it too
Maybe Im wrong, wont you tell me if Im coming on too strong
This heart of mine has been hurt before, this time I wanna be sure
Ive been waiting for a girl like you to come into my life
Ive been waiting for a girl like you, your loving will survive
Ive been waiting for someone new to make me feel alive
Yeah, waiting for a girl like you to come into my life
Youre so good, when we make love its understood
Its more than a touch or a word can say
Only in dreams could it be this way
When you love someone, yeah, really love someone
Now I know its right, from the moment I wake up till deep in the night
Theres nowhere on earth that Id rather be than holding you tenderly
Ive been waiting for a
Foreigner - “I don’t want to live without you”Â
I find myself in a strange situation
And I dont know how
What seemed to be an infatuation
Is so different now
I cant get by if were not together
Ooh cant you see
Girl, I want you now and forever
Close to me
Im longing for the time
Im longing for the day
Hoping that you will promise to be mine
And never go away
I dont want to live without you
I dont want to live without you
I could never live without you
Live without your love
I ask myself but theres no explanation
For the way I feel
I know Ive reached the right destination
And I know its real
Im longing for the time
Im longing for the day
When Ill be giving you this heart of mine
Believe me when I say
I dont want to live without you
I dont want to live without you
I could never live without you
Live without your love
No I dont want to live without you
I dont want to live without you
I could never live without you
Live without your love
Now I dont want to live without y
