I grabbed my drink, walked to the counter, and handed the lady behind it my credit card. Lady: This all you get? Me: Yep, that’s all for today. Lady: You want buy something else? Candy bar? (to myself: Does this lady get a commission on what I buy?)

A long time ago I subscribed to Fool.co.uk's daily news letter.  I don't normally read them much these days, they arrive in my inbox and I just delete, but one came by the other day that I thought had some good words in it.  Those that have read here for a while will know my liking for all things zen, especially relating to trading.  This article by them - Zen and the art of portfolio maintenance, has some points relevant for investors and traders / gamblers alike.  Namely, seeing doing nothing as doing something - in other words don't over-trade.  It's not a long article, but is worth a quick glance..  Quote:  "It's a busy, fast-moving world. Sometimes, you feel the need to be dynamic, to keep pace with life; in short, to do something.  As far as investments are concerned, this is a fundamental mistake many of us make regularly...."

The financial benefit to the institution is clear, they now own a bigger chunk of your debts.  This means that they will make more profit from your debt.  They do this in two ways. First, they now own more of your debts.  Second, they convinced you to turn your personal loans arranged on a 2 – 5 year period into 10 – 20 year loans.  At first the lower APR makes them look attractive. I really admire Steve Jobs, if you don't know him, he is the CEO and founder of both Apple computer and Pixar and has been recognised worldwide as a truly great innovator (Apple recently voted worlds most innovative company for the 3rd year running by Fortune magazine) and marketer. Back in middle school I had a friend that when I spent the night over at her house, inevitably we would go to church in the morning. Not just the normal Methodist/Presbyterian boredom I was used to, but instead it was the wacky, completely different world of Mormons.
