      Favorite Dishes And Family Folklore
By: A KasadyMany people grumble a lot when they get on a diet program because they feel that they will have to miss out on their favorite foods. They tend to equate weight-loss-facilitating healthy and nutritious food with boring and insipid food. But this is anything but true with the South Beach Diet, which serves both taste and health on the same plate. The South Beach Diet is wildly popular, an

O Folclore Folclore significa, basicamente, a sabedoria popular. Saturday’s Video - Folklore
Hi everybody! I regularly get sent videos to look at, so as Saturday’s are completely empty (plus I don’t want them cluttering up the week - smart blogging people!), I’m going to post my favourite one from the week. Here’s today’s video. I got sent this trailer for a video game called Folklore, which is a game for the most rubbishest of game consoles, the PS3. From the looks of the trailer, it seems to be similar to Final Fantasy. I’ll be honest, I don’t know much about the game, but the trailer did steer enough from the “Boring Video Game Trailer That Tries To Much To Be A Movie” garbage that there is nowadays. I’ll let you be a further judge. Anyway to watch it, click here. Now, if you’re reading on, without watching it, so be it, but I kind of spoil the video, and you won’t understnad the rest of this entry. That trailer scared the bejesus out of me! I was not expecting to jump like that, and I am sure I wasn&rs

      Arkansas Folklore and Folkways
It was nearly hundred years ago, they say, that an unlucky woodcutter in the Ozarks had his first encounter with a hoopsnake--a reptile remarkable for its method of locomotion and for the poisonous stinger in its tail. The woodcutter promptly lit a shuck, that is, he started running. The snake tucked its tail in its mouth and rolled along in pursuit, like a wagonwheel bouncing downhill. While the panting woodsman was praying for his second wind, he came to a large white oak; here he took roundence. The snake, instead of swerving, rolled into the tree and accidentally buried its tail deep in the wood. Talented as it is in some ways, the hoopsnake cannot pull out frontwise from anything it has stuck its tail into. The serpent began drilling backward through the tree, and the woodcutter ran for an ax. When he returned he saw that the poison from the stinger-tail had already got into the wood: dead leaves were sifting down like falling snow. The snake finally worked half its length from th

Bone Flowers: Global Folklore of The Living Dead
By: malo Death is as common a theme in the world of the arts as it is an event in everyday life. The point where a single, living being is separated from other living souls has become as common a subject of literature and art as any other aspect of human life. It has also inspired in countless cultures various concepts on what happens beyond the mortal coil. This is understandable, as the dying tend to feel anxiety at the idea of death. The bereaved, for their part, go through a period of grief and separation anxiety. Arguably, this aspect of human psychology regarding death can be used as an explanation for the widespread – nearly universal, by some accounts – tales of the “undead.”Achieving or stumbling upon tales of life after death appears in almost every major continent. Ghosts are prominent players in these tales, naturally. These incorporeal beings generally are attributed to have a form of separation anxiety, fundamentally attached to something they valued or held dear

Folklore venezolano: Caballo Viejo interpretado por Placido Domingo y Simón Diaz. 1991

The Urkupiña Folklore Parade (La entrada folklorica) - II
It is difficult to find an equivalent term in English for "La Entrada Folclorica", but the deep meaning of it is of an offering to the Urkupiña Virgin, an offering in exchange for the fulfillment of certain requests (houses, cars, trips, money, etc).Fact is that more than 15 thousand people, grouped in "fraternidades", which are a type of association, execute different types of dances and dress up with both native clothes and animal disguises. These people dance during 3.5 kilometers and usually drink a lot of alcoholic beverages on the way. A mixture between a religious activity and a very "pagan" activity is what is clearly visible during all the route. Alochol is plenty and you can find people drunk at early hours of the day. However, there are also many people which upon arriving to the San Idelfonos church, which is the end of the route, continue on their knees inside the church, whith a strong religious conviction that they are establishing a promise with the Virgin Mary, and th
