Fall Foliage Scenic Drive in Rhode Island
Rhode Island may be the smallest state in the union but when it comes to scenic drives it has one of the best. With over 400 miles of coastline and 20 percent of America’s National Historic Landmarks, Rhode Island packs plenty of distractions in this fall foliage coastal drive. The trip is a one-way 61-mile scenic drive on Route 1A along Block Island Sound until turning North to follow the weste

      Foliage in Taisho University
Taken last Sunday at Taisho Daigaku in Sugamo, Tokyo after our stressful New JLPT Level 3 Mock Examination. Seen in the picture above are my fellow gaijins who took part in the exam leaving the campus. The entrance to the campus is dwarfed by these tall trees in their peak stage of foliage.

      Kicking for foliage
We’d play touch footy at every opportunity we had, before school, during breaks, whenever and at one end of the ‘field’ there was a massive tree. If you were running towards the tree and heard the call ‘foliage’ then you knew someone was about to kick the ball high into the tree, which was in [...]

*Winkworth Arboretum--stunning photoFall is just around the corner here. It’s my favorite season and I simply cannot get enough of Fall foliage. I remember as a nonbeliever, when the Fall season came around, I would wonder whether God was real. Think about it. Planets rotating in space, and orbiting around the sun because of a random act? Impossible. There is just too much order in this universe

Give Your House a Makeover through Foliage Plants
If you are considering having more than just a couple of varieties of plants, it is likely that the majority of your choosing would be considered to be "foliage" plants. Whilst foliage plants do not reward the owner with masses of blooms, they have their own beauty and as a bonus are easy to grow and are readily propagated. They are also more adaptable to various climatic conditions.

Gardening with aromatic foliage just makes scents
A rose is a rose is a roseuntil it withers and dies, losing its beguiling scent forever. But savvy landscape designers know they can count on year-round fragrance if they pack their gardens with aromatic foliage. Late Season Foliage
It is the middle of November and if you’ve driven around the region and through out the east coast you’ve noticed that many of the trees still have their leaves and some of those leaves are still green. If you think that leaves being on the trees this late into the fall season is unusual you would be correct, and not alone in noticing the late foliage season. During a typical fall, starting in September and October, the rate of daylight decreases more rapidly and cooler weather begins to move in, this causes the trees to stop producing chlorophyll, which makes the leaves green. The chlorophyll then begins to break down and the leaves begin to change color. (This is a very simple explanation of what takes place) The Fall of 2007 was different. The day length got shorter as usual, but temperatures during the month of October did not get as cold as we tend to see on average. (In fact it was the second warmest October for Erie in Record) These warmer temperatures prevented the

Trees and Shrubs that look better without their foliage
For many gardeners the prime goal is growing plants that bloom their heads off during spring and through the summer months. Some even experiment with the odd winter bloomer and many will attempt to deadhead their plants at the end of summer to encourage an autumn flourish. It seems that trying to keep flowers in the garden is the prime ambition and one that we should all strive to achieve. However, there are so many plants that actually look better without their foliage or colorful blooms that are sorely missed within many home gardens. They belong to the group of plants we term deciduous. Those plants that reside within this group shine best when their autumn colour has past and spring buds are a few months away. Stripped naked and bare their trunks, branches or stems create another dimension in the garden that only the super-wise gardeners seem to enjoy and plan towards. If your garden looks a little dreary in winter why not take advantage of some of these incredible trees and
