But as the times have changed, so is the treatment of fire places. What was once considered a very important piece became optional and for decorative purposes only. Upon entering a room, your eye will usually be drawn towards a certain feature of the room. That feature is the room’s focal point. Every room should have a focal point that will be the base of the room’s theme or look and every object in the room should compliment and be in harmony with the focal point.
Creating a focal point is easy. Just decide on the room’s main feature like a beautiful picture window, a beautifully made fireplace or a whole- wall shelving. But sometimes, a room does not have a remarkable feature, then you have to create one. Some recommendations are: an armoire or a tall, large cabinet, a magnificent rug, a striking mirror, a fabric panel and a collection of interesting pieces displayed on an ornate table. The point of creating a focal point is to select something to draw the eye and invite the visitor to linger,enjoy and feel at home.
