I understand the necessity of keeping the floors clean and shiny, but putting out warning signs to tell everyone that they are slippery? Why do they have to be so slippery? I understand the ascetics of the clean, fresh appearance for the "Clean Room" effect. In our plant, we have over 2000+ people that work here and lots of them go up the stairs to the Fab area. We have three flights of stairs with about 20 steps in them. They have placed signs out saying to hold onto the rails as they might be slippery. That is CRAZY!! Making the stairs that slippery is just a lawsuit in the making. With as many people that go up and down them, one would think that they would want to keep them clean with enough friction so that people can walk them without the chance of falling. A contract holder of two condos at Quantum on the Bay contacted me a few weeks ago to let me know that she would like to find a replacement buyer for each unit.
The first is 3 bedroom/3 bath with 1,620 square feet of interior space and two large terraces. If you refer to the Quantum on the Bay website, it is the R floor plan in the north tower. I was reading an article online today about relationships or more to the point the ending of relationships. Apparently in relationships going sour the man seems to be the last to know in most cases. The author suggested that perhaps because men usually still get the better end of the deal in relationships overall that they aren’t noticing what their partner is going through. According to this article women will try to express their needs at some point but often men are either unwilling to compromise or don’t seem to realize the seriousness of the issue. Perhaps because they are happy with things just the way they are so why change anything? Then later they are shocked when the woman leaves and left wondering, how did this happen? This makes sense to me and I’ve seen this happen many times. Why do some hardwood floors cup or gap over time, while other floors stay flat?
The Hardwood Installer tells us a story about two identical situations and the benefits of acclimation.
Imagine waiting ten years to finally install hardwood floors only to have them shrink or cup.
Hardwood floors expand and contract depending on the environment, so installers acclimate the hardwood floors before installing.
What’s Acclimation?
Acclimating means to get the hardwood floors use to the environment. The climate in which your hardwood floors are delivered may not be the same environment that your floors are going to be in the rest of the year.
If your floors are being delivered on a damp day, they’ll absorb the moisture in the air and that could lead to cupped floors later on and gaps.
Stack your hardwood floors like the above picture and acclimate for around 72 hours.
