Today was the first day on for the crew. They started their morning with the Work Capacity Test which requires them to walk 3 miles within 45 minutes or less while wearing a 45 lbs vest. First Day of Spring 8.3 x 7 Monotype, Watercolor & Colored PencilLuckily for me, my maternal grandparents liked to take photos in the late 1920's. The family snapshots I get to use as painting references are treasures. Plexiglass plate with Daniel Smith oil based black etching ink, rolled out with a brayer. The reference was a Brownie camera photo of Al & Margie, and the image was pulled out of the ink with my fingers, q-tips and paper towels.After a trip through the press, the print is pulled from the plate.The print next to the plate on the press bed.After the ink was dry, I added some light washes of watercolor, and started to scribble texture and color with prismacolors.

So after sleeping in the floor last night today we hit the road, not before leaving my husbands car with an acquaintance, that way the moving Co. can pick it up and they can take it to Las Vegas. I flew from Rome to Belgium yesterday. From one home to the other. It was 24°C in Rome. And 4°C when I landed in Belgium yesterday. Raining, wind. Today was even worse. It hailed, rained, snowed. Today was the first day of the grief recovery workshop (www.sorg.se) I am attending.This day was not that hard as it consisted mostly of lectures, but there were som tragic lifestorys that were shared with the group. One woman for example is there because her 14 year old daughter committed suicide without any warning, and there was a lot of people who has lost their loved ones to death.Tomorrow and on Friday we are going to work more on our own grief and we are also going to choose a person that we are going to mourn. I am guessing mine will be my mother although there are two more candidates that needs closure, but I will probably take them at a later point.Right now I am just feeling sad, but that is part of the process.....

College officially started today and I can say it went pretty well. I don’t dread the start of school, I actually look forward to it. The students are the lifeblood of any school and with out them, well…it’s pretty lifeless. I think as teachers we should be excited about school starting, after-all isn’t that why we chose to be teachers? All jobs/careers have their tensions, headaches, and unnecessary “hoops”… at least we get some time to “recoup”!
In classes today, we had the normal first day of class “rigaramol”: add/drops, early and lates, books, etc. It’s an exciting time for the students, especially the freshmen. It’s kind of fun to watch the freshmen try to figure out who is an upperclassmen or the “where” and “what” of their first few days. Very quickly they assimilate into the “know”.

The count is on. Hillsborough's student head count tallied more than 174,500 students in grades kindergarten through twelve. First-day attendance rose by almost 6,000 students over last year, likely helped by a later start date in August.
It's too early to know what the numbers mean. Hillsborough is projecting flat enrollment this year. Including nearly 4,000 charter school students counted Monday, the district still needs almost 13,000 additional students to arrive in the coming weeks to meet projections. Since first day attendance is always low, school officials believe Monday's count puts them on target.

A big day for the boy, he needed to decompress. He went up to his room, and a new manifistation for him is to lay underneath his bed when he is overstimulated. A good thing, I think.
